(Steven's POV)
I stared at my Father's face as he was still seated on the living room black couch, and it hurt me so much to see my only younger sister crying and running away angrily after she had finally stepped out from her room. After a day of hiding in her room because of the kissing marks that were visibly plastered all over her neck and cheeks.
I wonder how Thelma got to celebrate her birthday at L.X Hotel, and our Father even granted permission for that, as he allowed her to go out with her friends for the first time in Thelma's life to celebrate her birthday outside of our home.
Thelma has never been a public figure like myself, and none knew that she was my father's daughter either, as there was only speculation that my parents have another child aside from me, which is a girl, and not so many were bothered to search about Thelma's identity online, as my dad didn't post anything about her too.
"Dad, I do not think it's a bad idea if Thelma still goes to work with M.W Group, and with the fact that she will still be resuming with us. It's only for her to do her internship there and to learn the new additions in MW Group. As the company is growing so rapidly now and gaining more recognition and international partners, despite being a new company in our state," I said.
"Hmm..." I saw my father frown as he paused reading his business magazine update. Shortly after Thelma left us, Dad sank into deep thinking, as he gave what I said a second thought, while Mom sat quietly, as she didn't like to interfere when Dad and I had a conversation.
"Hmm, you're right, Steven, but still, Luke's son is the one ruling the company, and I don't want Thelma anywhere closer to that man," My father said with a serious face, and I raised a brow and asked him, "Who is Luke, Dad?"
"Don't tell me that you aren't aware of Mavin White. He's Luke's son and Charlie White's grandson too," Father said with a more deadly look on his face. As Dad is a black-skinned man, but Mom, she's as beautiful as Thelma, making them an interracial couple.
I laughed out and asked Dad, "Hahaha, Dad.. I don't get you. What's Thelma's business with Mavin White, that cold man? As from my findings about Mavin, he doesn't have time for women, and he wouldn't even notice Thelma, who would obviously be a junior staff and not even closer to the staff working with him," I said.
I walked towards the living room fridge to take out a bottle of water, but Dad replied, "That's because you see your sister inside here every day, and you end up not knowing how beautiful Thelma is."
I kept mute as I approached the fridge and pulled the double door open. And I took out a cold bottle of water from the fridge and closed it back before I looked back at Dad, and he had already resumed reading the latest business magazine cover in his hands again.
I said to him, "Dad.. You worry over nothing. As since when I know Mavin White and have been following reports about him too secretly, as some staff usually comments that I look like him, I doubt that he has ever been with a woman, as he's very aloof and no news about him having a girlfriend too."
"Hmm," Dad hummed in silence, and he finally said, "And what if Mavin falls for your sister and now wants her? I don't want to have anything to do with the White family, as I hate them all, and I cannot approve of Thelma to them either."
My mom looked from me to my dad silently, and she as well didn't understand my dad's personal hatred for the White family, and I sighed and replied, "Don't worry, Dad. I will speak to Thelma about Mavin, and for her to keep her distance away from him. But I'm very certain that Mavin wouldn't even spare a single glance at Thelma, as he would have obviously seen more pretty ladies than her. So, there's nothing to worry about Thelma having anything to do with Mavin White," I replied as I finally opened the bottle of water in my hands and drank from it.
After a moment of silence, I said, "I also heard that Mavin is gay, so how can a gay man want to be with a woman, let alone a shy woman like Thelma? That's not possible, Dad, but let's just support her to resume working with them first, and I will guarantee you her safety, and nothing would happen to Thelma."
"Hmm..." Dad hummed again, and I awaited his final response to all that I have said. After a while of dead silence in the living room as I stood waiting to hear my Father's reply, his mobile phone rang out, and he spoke, "Excuse me, Steven."
"No problem, Dad," I answered, and watched my Father pick up his call as he spoke to the caller, "Hello, Chief Donald."
"Fine, and how's your family also doing?" Dad asked, as I couldn't hear his conversation with Chief Donald properly, but I knew that Chief Donald is a powerful man in City B too, as he owns many oil plants and oil companies.
I heard my father respond, "Okay, we look forward to the upcoming marriage between Thelma and Felix. Definitely, I will let Thelma know, and we will be expecting Felix's visit to us."
My jaw dropped as I heard about Felix Ruben wanting to marry my sister, and I frowned, as I knew that Felix was a playboy and he sleeps with everything underneath a skirt, and aside from that, he is a good businessman too. But not the choice of a groom that I would have preferred for Thelma, as I was still investigating who was the man that Thelma had gone to sleep with.
After paying heavily to get access into L.X Hotel and to get their CCTV footage, it was night, and Thelma had left the hotel earlier. And from the videos that I saw yesterday, I saw that her two friends bullied her and laughed at her for being a virgin at 24, and I thought to search for those two spoilt brats and to deal with them later, while waiting for their family to revenge on their behalf.
I saw how Thelma almost burst out into sobs like a little girl in front of all her bullies, and that made her run away, but I haven't spoken to her yet about it. But I really needed to see her and speak to her to find out who exactly was the man that she had slept with. Maybe that way, we can have them become married if he is a well-to-do man in City B, as I saw a footage of a man dressed in a suit approach Thelma, and he snatched the wine bottle away from her hands, but I couldn't tell if the man was an elderly man or not, as the video was captured at night and in white and black imaging.
"Surely, we will be expecting Felix's visit and for the wedding preparations to hold soon, so there won't be any complaint. Thank you, Chief Donald, and bye," Father finally ended his phone call conversation with Chief Donald, and Mom asked him, "What did Chief Donald say?"
"Well, Chief Donald and I met a few weeks ago at an event, and he spoke to me about looking for a bride for his son, as he wants Felix to settle down on time and to give him grandchildren, other than the different women that Felix has been frolicking around with," Father said.
I could see Mother's face frown in disgust as she sat elegantly in her blue nightgown, and she asked my Father, "And you want that type of a shameless young man for Thelma as her husband? No, Conrad, I don't want him for my daughter."
Mother looked away from Father's face to show him how displeased she was with the sudden arranged marriage, while I continued to stand in silence, as I also disagree, but I didn't interfere yet in their conversation.
I heard Father ask Mom, "Shameless? What's more shameless than your daughter sleeping with a random man that she knows nothing about? As she doesn't know his name, where he lives, and now, you're speaking about shame, when she has lost her pride, and I cannot say no to Chief Donald's son, except Thelma knows the name of the man that she had shamefully slept with. Aside from that, let her know that she has to prepare to meet with Felix Ruben by next weekend."
Father stood up from the couch, and Mom stood up angrily too as she replied, "No, Conrad! Thelma is our daughter, and not because she made a mistake that you will now want to push her out to someone that won't value her. I won't let that happen, so it's best that Felix doesn't come here either, as I won't approve of him."
Mother turned and walked away from Father angrily as she walked towards the stairs and went upstairs, while Father sighed and looked back at me.
