Chapter 9

Veronica's POV

I am leaning at my car while Sebastián is looking at me intently.

"What made you think that I have a mistress Veronica?" he asked and stared at me while waiting for my answer.

"It's just..." I started having a hard time formulating any excuses.

"It just that..." I repeated and tried thinking but my mind is blocked.

"What Veronica?" He asked impatiently.

"I am hoping that we can build a relationship, a real one with a clean slate," I spoke seriously and fought his gaze.

He looked at me in disbelief finding my words unbelievable well his reaction is valid. We already know that we are just using each other to gain something but here I am asking for something more.

"I want you to fall in love with me Sebastián, only me. No other woman," I held Sebastián's chin and pulled his face closer to mine. I can no longer recognize my movement but I have to do this if I want to change my fate.

"So answer my question Sebastián, do you have a mistress?" I stared at his eyes as if I can read what is inside his mind. As if I can know who is his mistress.

"I don't have other women Veronica," he firmly uttered. I let go of his chin but this time he held my face and leaned me on my car door.

"Only you," he added flirting with me. I can feel sincerity on his face and I must admit he is good at pretending that he likes me.

I smiled to show him that I believe in his words.

"I believe in you," I responded and gave him a peck on his lips. He smiled when I did that but he wasn't contented and pulled me even closer to fully claim my lips.

He angled my face and sealed our lips. His kisses were too rough but pleasurable at the same time. I moaned when I felt his hands enter my shirt and aim for a higher position.

I held his hands tightly and broke off the kiss.

"Someone might see us," I uttered. His eyes darkened and I can saw lust in them.

"Let's continue this at home," I uttered and gave him another kiss. I didn't wait for his answer and quickly get inside my car.

I rolled down my window and put my head out.

"I will wait for you at home Sebastián," I uttered and winked at him before driving off.

I have no idea if I convinced him but the good thing here is, that I was able to get away from him.

I wiped my lips when I remembered our kiss and took a deep breath.

I don't think I can do everything alone, hiring a private investigator will make everything easier. I fished out my phone planning to call one when a woman suddenly appeared out of nowhere I quickly hit the break and turned my steering wheel in the opposite direction and I hit a large tree.

Everything felt like a Deja Vu. It felt like it imitated the car crash that I encountered, the one that was orchestrated by Sebastián and his mistress.

I closed my eyes tightly and massaged my temple when I felt a tingling pain in my head.

"You have to do everything on your own Veronica or else your time will end." a faint whisper but I managed to understand every word. I looked at my wrist.

I cursed when my time was cut in half.

"It's unfair," I uttered. How can I possibly change my fate when I am running out of time?

I tried fighting the urge to collapse but my body couldn't handle it anymore. Before I could close my eyes I heard a voice, the least that I wanted to hear at the moment.

" Veronica!" A faint call from Sebastián while he's forcing me to open my door. I looked in his direction and let my head fall on the steering wheel after that everything went black but his worried face stayed on my mind.

I heard voices around me and when I open my eyes I saw Sebastián's back while talking to a man wearing a white coat.

"How's my wife Doc?" He asked with worry lace in his voice. The doctor's eyes landed on me and when he saw that I am awake he walked toward me and check something.

"Veronica!" Sebastián exclaimed and held my hand.

"What day is it?" I asked and looked at my wrist. A day had passed.

"Tuesday Veronica," he answered and squeezed my hand.

"You've been out for a day," he added and looked into my eyes with worry.

I roamed my eyes around to look for Katelyn or even for my Mom but they weren't there or maybe Sebastián didn't tell them.

"Did you tell Katelyn and Mom about this?" I asked, he shook his head.

"I will tell them," He was about to leave and inform my family about my condition when I held his hand.

"Thank you for not telling them," I uttered sincerely and for the first time since I traveled back in time I felt thankful for what he did.

Sebastián's POV

When I saw her in her car unconscious I can feel my whole body weaken. When I carried her in and saw her blood I panicked and I felt fear again after so many years of being unalive.

I believed and prayed to God again to save Veronica. While she was unconscious I almost lost my mind, thoughts of losing her kept on playing like a broken cassette. I have no idea why I am feeling this way when we're just married for a week. I didn't even know her but it felt like I have love her ever since. Like I am with her for a long time.

"Do you want to eat something?" I asked her and removed the few strands that covers her face.

"I'm fine," she responded even though she didn't consume anything and it's been a day.

"You need to eat something to regain your strength," I convinced her but she shook her head firm that she won't eat eating.

I sighed defeated and smiled at her.

"I will handle your company for the meantime, while your recover," I volunteered and this time it is not to take advantage of their family's weakness but to help her genuinely. I can no longer recognize the way I think, it is extremely different from the moment I planned everything.

" I am fine, " she replied being hard-headed as she usually is and I know I can't convince her once she set her mind to it.

"Then I will accompany you until you recover," I declared.

"No, you don't have to do that," she protested.

"I am not asking for your permission Veronica, I'm just informing you," I uttered firmly and looked at her intently.

She took a deep breath and uttered her little okay which made me smirk.

"Have you seen the woman that I almost hit?" she asked which made my forehead crease.

"There is no woman Veronica, your brake isn't working according to the investigation, that was the cause of the accident," I explained but she wasn't convinced.

"You haven't seen her?" she asked curiously and anticipated my answer. I shook my head and looked at her with furrowed eyebrows.

What woman is she talking about?

"They reviewed your car's dash cam and there's no woman, Veronica," I replied but she wasn't convinced. Maybe it was the anesthesia that made her memory distorted.

"But there's a woman. I avoided her so I turned the steering wheel and hit the tree," she explained I smiled at her and squeezed her hand.

"You need to rest Veronica, once you are fully healed I will ask someone to investigate the case again," I uttered, she nod her head and lie on her bed comfortably. I caressed her hair and kissed her forehead.

I stared at her and watched her fall asleep when she was already out I took my phone to call someone.

" Can you investigate Veronica's accident again? I'll pay you to double," I uttered and he took my offer.

I thought I could stare at Veronica's face in peace but I was wrong because Sabrina called me again for the nth time today.

I was about to stand up and take the call outside Veronica's room when she held my hand tightly putting me in place.

My phone kept on vibrating in my pocket, I looked at Veronica for a second, and when I confirmed that she was asleep I answered the call.

"When are you coming here?" Sabrina's voice enveloped my ear and I am getting pissed just by hearing her words.

I stared at Veronica's face before answering her.

"I'll meet you at the auction this week," I uttered and drop the call. I have no time listening to her longing, if I only knew that Sabrina would be this clingy I should have found another way to ruin Francis Caskcut.

I took a deep breath and stared at Veronica who is peacefully sleeping. I slowly remove her hold and left her room to buy her foods to eat.

"One soup please," I ordered and waited for a few minutes for my order.

While waiting for my order my eyes landed on Veronica's mother who was talking to someone. I am busy watching them when the waitress suddenly taps my shoulder.

"Your order is ready Sir," she announced I took my order and stared at Veronica's Mom for a few seconds.

I have to pass by their table before I could leave the restaurant so I walked toward them bowing my head a little and since she was too occupied she didn't notice my presence.

I stopped walking when I heard them talking about Veronica.

"Francis is dying and it looks like Veronica will inherit everything. We have to remove her from this world so our daughter will be the next owner of RDC company." her voice is full of eagerness and fear crept into my system when I heard their plan about Veronica.

I should remain deaf and allow them to do their plan since I am planning to do the same thing, to kill all the Curtis but hearing those from their mouth made me want to protect Veronica.

As if she is someone precious to me.
