Chapter 2

Veronica's POV

After the meeting, everyone decided to leave except for me and Sebastián.

"What do you want in return?" I asked bravely getting ready for the worst things he would ask for.

"Let's merge our companies," he stated. If I allowed it to happen RDC company will benefit as well since Sebastián's company is thriving.

"and marry me," he added which made me stop breathing. Merging our company is fine but I think marriage is too much.

"Is marriage really necessary?" I asked confused why he is offering me a marriage.

"To seal our deal I guess?" He answered unsurely. I laughed nervously and looked at him.

"You're joking right?" I asked to hope that he is just making fun of me.

"No, I am serious Veronica. Let's get married today." I creased my forehead. He looks too serious but the words that came out of his mouth are too hard to believe.

"Are you on drugs?" That is the only reason I could think of why he is behaving this way.

"Looks like Curtis couldn't keep their words." He looks too serious which made me nervous. What did I get myself into?

"I remembered you uttering the word everything Veronica, where is it now?" Sebastián stepped closer, held my chin, and tilted my face upward so he could see my face.

"Everything Veronica," he repeated. I felt cornered. I don't know what to do.

"Fine let's get married." I looked at his eyes, "let's get married today," I uttered while bravely looking at his greyish eyes.

My family would be shocked to hear this news. How can my life change drastically in just a day?

"Let's go then," Sebastián held my hand and we started running until we reached his car.

"Do you take marriage as a joke?" I asked while putting on the seat belt.

"Why? Do you value marriage, Ms. Curtis?" He asked amused and I felt embarrassed. I am not a hopeless romantic person but I still think that marriage is sacred.

"No," I lied even though I firmly believe that I should marry the one I love because that is what my father instilled in my mind.

"Good then. This will be fun I bet," He started his engine and drove off.

"Where are we heading?" I asked curious about his next action.

"Church," he answered and I just nod my head stopping myself to ask more questions.

"Veronica," Slight tap woke me up from my nap. I rubbed my eyes to have a clear vision of the surroundings and when I am fully awake I saw Sebastián's face a few inches away from mine.

"We are here." He spoke with a smile on his face. I roam my eyes around and I saw a big church in front.

My heart started to beat erratically and my mind became is in deep turmoil. I don't what to do. I am afraid that if I refused to agree to his whims he will withdraw his vote and my position in the company will be in danger. I couldn't afford to lose RDC. My father has poured his whole life there. I shouldn't disappoint it might worsen his condition.

"Everything will be okay Veronica." I took a deep breath before getting out of Sebastián's car.

"Are you excited?" Sebastián asked the moment I was out. I raised my eyebrow at him, is he insane. Why would I be excited to marry a man I barely know.

I didn't answer his question and proceeded on walking inside the church.

"Let's get this done," I uttered when I reach the altar. I saw Sebastián's playful smirk, teasing me.

"Excited to marry me?" I glared at him and crossed my hands around my chest.

"Short-tempered Curtis," he commented and entered one of the doors inside the church. I waited for him patiently and in just a minute he walked out with a priest beside him. I didn't know what he did to convince the priest but whatever it may be I want everything to be done fast, my family needs me.

"Did both of you come here voluntarily?" The priest asked us. I wanted to say no but couldn't be.

"Yes, father." Sebastián and I uttered in unison. The priest nod his head and started reading the Bible. He gave us a lecture about marriage and afterward asked us a question.

"Have you come here of your own free will and choice and without a compulsion to marry each other?"

"We have," Sebastián and I answered at the same time.

"Will you love and honor each other in marriage all the days of your life?"

While looking at each other's eyes both of us answered, "we will,"

"Are you willing to accept with love the children God may send you, and

bring them up in accordance with the law of Christ and his Church?"

"We are, "

The ceremony kept on going and I agreed to all questions asked.

When it is time for the declaration of consent we hold each other's hands. I can feel my hands shaking and Sebastián must have noticed it so he squeezed them lightly and gave me a warm smile.

"Sebastián Alston, do you take Veronica Curtis, as your wife, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, all the days of your life?"

"I do," Sebastián answered with a smile on his face.

"Veronica Curtis, do you take Sebastián Alston, as your husband for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, all the days of your life?"

"I do," I answered nervously.

"What God joins together man must not separate. May the Lord confirm the consent you have given and enrich you

with his blessing." The priest then look at Sebastián, "you may now kiss your bride," sweats formed in my hands when I heard that. I clasped my hands tightly and looked at Sebastián lifting his right hand to hold my chin.

I closed my eyes when I felt his hold. I was expecting a warm lip to met mine but what I feel is his warm thumb covering my lips and planting a quick kiss.

"We are married finally," he uttered and pulled me into a tight hug.

Sebastián's POV

As I felt Veronica's warmth I can feel my dreams slowly coming true. Just wait Mom, Dad I will make all the breathing Curtis will suffer for what they have done to both of you.

I am one step closer to my dream, all I need to do is to take RDC company from Curtis.

"Thank you," I uttered when I broke off the hug. I looked into Veronica's eyes "Thank you, Veronica," thank you for helping me to achieve my dreams. I will take all of you down, your family will suffer just like what your father did to mine.

All those painful memories are still clear. I could still see them vividly. How the doctor ignored us because we have no money to pay for my mother's operation because everything we had was stolen by Francis Curtis, Veronica's father.

Francis Curtis tricked my father into signing a contract. My father trusted Francis so he signed it not knowing that it was meant to take all his share in the RDC company. We became broke having no money to pay for my mother's operation my father lost his mind and took his own life by hanging himself from the ceiling. I was six years old when I witnessed how my father gasped for air when he hang himself. My little body couldn't do anything to help my struggling father, all I did was cry.

When my mother heard about it she became extremely weak and in just a day she was pronounced dead.

I promised in their grave that I will do everything to make Francis Curtis pay. I waited patiently for this chance and now that I have it, I won't let them get away from what they did.

I will make all the breathing Curtis pay, including Veronica.

"Sebastián," I was awake from reminiscing when Veronica called my name.

I looked at her and regained my calm posture.

"I have to leave, my family needs me," she uttered weakly and upon seeing the pain in her eyes I felt something pinched in my chest but I ignored it and remember what his father did to my parents.

"I will take you there," she was about to protest but I held her hand tightly and started walking towards my car.

"Thank you. I owe you one," she smiled genuinely. No, Veronica, your family owes me big and the only payment is to see every one of you suffer.

"Your my wife now, you don't have to count," I flashed a sweet smile and started driving.

When we reached the hospital where his father is admitted, I followed her until we reach his father's room.

"Mom, Kate, Sebastián Alston my husband," She introduced me to her family, and they were all shocked.

I offered my hand and even though they were still processing Veronica's words they accepted it and shook it lightly.

"Alston? The CEO of Alston company?" Katelyn her younger sister I guess whispered in her ear but her voice is a bit loud so I can still hear it.

"Yes, now shut up." Veronica looks pissed.

"How?" Katelyn asked further. Veronica glared at her before answering.

"To save this family," I guess you are wrong in that part Veronica because marrying me will put your family in danger, I thought to myself and looked in his father's direction.

"I will make you taste your poison," I whispered and smiled evilly.
