Chapter 3

Veronica's POV

I am busy wiping my father's hand when the doctor came in along with three nurses.

"Doc how is my father?" Katelyn approached the doctor immediately when they entered the room.

"We have run some tests and it shows that his heart is too weak to pump on its own," My knees became weak upon hearing that. I am on the verge of falling only if Sebastián failed to hold my elbow to support me from standing up.

"I suggest that we should machine to Francis's body," the doctor uttered and looked at my mother but all he did was cry so the doctor decided to turn his gaze in my direction.

"You have to decide now Veronica," The doctor spoke upon meeting my eyes. I looked at Mom and Katelyn before nodding my head.

"Do what's best for my father Doc," I answered politely and gave him a small smile.

"Follow me you have to sign some papers," even though my knees are weak I forced myself to walk and followed the doctor.

"I'm here," Sebastián uttered. He held my hand and accompanied me to the doctor's office.

"How long can my father live Doc?" I asked when I sat down on the chair in his office.

"A year," he answered with sadness in his voice, I held the pen tightly. I fight the urge to cry and decided to sign the paper even though my hands were shaking.

The doctor excused himself and left us in his office.

"You know you can cry right?" I looked at Sebastián's eyes and forced a smile.

"I am fine," I lied. I am not fine. I think I am going insane. Everything is too much for me to handle but I have no choice but to be strong, for the company, and my family.

"I am good at detecting lies Veronica," he uttered before pulling me into a tight hug.

"Cry now, Veronica. No one can see you here. I can hear you but I can't see your face so you can cry now. No one will know I promise," Sebastián caressed my hair softly and kissed my temple.

"Cry Veronica," he uttered softly, and just by that hot tears pooled in my eyes.

My tears started to fall non-stop and later on, I started sobbing loudly.

"I-I'm t-tired S-Sebastián," I complained like a little kid.

"I-I wanted t-to r-rest," No one has ever seen me this weak. Ever since I was a child my parents have told me that I always act tough. Nothing can make me cry unlike other little kids but the truth is I am just pretending to be tough for Katelyn. They were always busy working so as an older sister I have to act as a mother and father figure to Katelyn.

Growing up I carried that trait. I became someone they can lean on when things get hard. I am always the tough one which is why it is hard for me to express what I feel inside.

"I-I a-am t-tired c-carrying a-all t-the r-responsibilities," I confessed everything to a man I barely know but I felt relieved feeling his warmth.

"I am your husband now, I won't let you carry all those things alone," Sebastián continued caressing my back, and when I felt okay I broke off the hug and wipe the tears from my eyes.

"Thank you," I sincerely uttered and gave him a genuine smile.

"You are always welcome Love," Sebastián leaned his body and kissed my forehead.

We stared at each other's eyes for a minute before we decided to go back to my father's room.

"Mom," I called my mother who was staring at the wall blankly.

"Mom," I walked closer to her direction and tapped her shoulder, she jumped a little when I did that.

"Mom they will put the machine on Dad's body," she hugged me tightly when she heard my words and started crying again. Katelyn held my hand so I smiled at her.

"Dad will be fine Kate," Just like Mom tears started to fall in her eyes again and it pains me to see my loved ones in this situation.

"We will get through this," words I keep on uttering to keep everyone sane.

Sebastián's POV

Hearing Veronica's cry made me forget the revenge that I planned.

I don't what is happening to me but I shouldn't allow myself to feel something for this woman, even pity.

"You can leave now, I can handle myself," she uttered coldly gone was the weak Veronica a few hours ago.

"I am your husband I will stay by your side." She chuckled finding my words funny.

"Husbands who are in love with their wives do that but you aren't," I smirked and move my face closer to hers.

"I will be, soon." She directed her gaze to the opposite side refusing to me met my intense gaze.

"I have no time for your flirty acts Sebastián," She pushed me and stood up to create a distance.

"I am just trying to lift your mood I'm sorry," I apologized, and upon hearing my apology she look act at me feeling sorry for how she acted.

"I'm sorry I'm just tired," I smiled at her and held her hand.

"I understand, I'll be back tomorrow I promise," I kissed her forehead before leaving.

When I reached the parking lot of the hospital my phone vibrate so I took it and I saw Sabrina's name flashed on the screen.

"Hello babe," She uttered energetically which made me smile, this woman is always full of energy.

"So what happened?" She asked anxious to know if our plan work.

Yes, everything that is happening to Veronica's life now is part of our plan. I am the reason why her father is in the hospital.

Sabrina, my girlfriend is the RDC's company lawyer so she knows every anomaly.

Under my order, she threatened Francis Curtis that she will expose the dirty works that are happening in RDC company. The threat was meant to scare him I didn't know that he has a faint heart and that simple threat could almost kill him. I felt guilty hearing about Francis' situation but I disregard that feeling when I remembered what he did to my family. He deserves it.

"I married her," I informed Sabrina and I heard a scream on the other line.

"Our plan worked babe," she uttered happily and I am sure if we are talking face to face she is already hugging me tightly.

"After this, we will take over RDC company right, and get married like what you have promised?" She asked getting excited. I chuckled before answering yes.

Both of us laughed but I stopped when I remembered Veronica's face and her cries that is full of pain.

" You shouldn't feel guilty, they deserve it," I uttered trying to convince myself that I did the right thing.

"Babe," I stopped dozing off when Sabrina called my attention.

"Yes?" I replied.

"I said, we should celebrate," I sigh heavily and gave in to her whims.

I drove off to Sabrina's place and when I reached her condo, she welcomed me by giving me hot kisses.

"Time for honeymoon," she said when I broke off the kiss. I chuckled and held her face.

"But you are not the one I married," I replied to piss her.

Sabrina pouted and punched my chest. I laughed seeing her reaction. She was about to walk away but I pulled her and grabbed her face.

"Time for honeymoon then," I claimed her lips but she pushed me.

"Let's record this babe," Sabrina clasped her hands and smiled at me sweetly.

"I don't think that is necessary," I replied which made her pout even more so having no choice I agreed to her request.

Sabrina jumped joy and started setting up her phone. When it was fully set up she walked toward me and sat on my lap.

She pressed her chest to my body and then started to plant soft kisses on my jaw down to my chest.

I felt her hands slowly unbuttoning my pants. I could already tell what he wanted.
