Chapter 16

Laney

“How are you feeling Laney?” Damien said.

“I am feeling really good, like powerful.” I told Damien. Taking a deep breath, I feel Nia needing control, so I let her.

I start shifting, my bones breaking, I start to scream. I see Damien next to me telling me it is going to be okay. I need to relax and let Nia take over.

I finally do, and then things start to feel different. I then notice that I am no longer in control. I am in the back of my mind. I look down and see white feet. I stretch out my paws on the ground and I feel the dirt under my claws. I shake my fur, and walk over to Damien. He pulls out a mirror and shows me Nia.

I am white, all white with light blue eyes. ‘Nia, you are beautiful.’

I told Nia, surprised and happy that this has finally happened.

‘We look beautiful.’ Nia said.

We turned around and started slowly walking towards the forest. I then turned my head and looked behind me as I see Damien shift into Aiden.

Nia, drooling after seeing her mate in front of her. Aiden ran up and rubbed his head against Nia and they both took off and ran. It felt so good to run. I feel Nia, she feels free and safe with Aiden. We ran for what felt like hours, we played around and chased each other. Aiden was fast but Nia was faster. Aiden pounced on Nia and started rough housing, chasing bunnies and deer. It was the best night of our lives, Nia finally got to be with Aiden in the way she has always wanted to.

After a while, we stopped playing and walked towards the creek. Damien shifted back, and found some clothes. I walked over to the water and looked down at my reflection. I saw a pure white wolf and she looked beautiful. ‘We are beautiful, and rare. Mate will protect us.’ Said Nia, ‘I know he will. Now let me have control.’ I told Nia and she did.

I shifted back and noticed that Damien had a shirt and shorts waiting for me.

I put them on and walked over towards Damien who was setting blankets down near a fire he had started.

“When did you do this?” I asked Damien.

“I had Charlie bring some stuff out.” He said with a smile and then grabbed me towards him. I sat in his lap and we both looked up at the sky. The moon was so beautiful. It was such a clear night, the stars were out and the moon so bright. We just sat there and stared up till all of a sudden we heard a twig snap.

Damien froze and put his finger to his lips to make sure I stayed quiet. I am shaking. I have never been around anything like this.

He smells the air then all of a sudden his eyes change to an ice blue, Aiden’s eye color. He then stands and shifts and out of no where we see glowing eyes staring at us in the woods, and then there were more like we were surrounded.

Damien mind-kinks me ‘Don’t shift, I want you to run towards the cabin and lock all the doors and hide in the shelter in the pantry. GO!’ I do as Damien says and I run as I see him lunge towards a couple of rogues.

I run so fast, I hate to leave him, but he demanded, so I ran. All of a sudden, wolves were running past me heading towards where Damien was. They ignored me and ran towards him, which means that they are the warriors of the pack.

I continued running towards the cabin, I entered and then inside I head to the pantry and into the room and sit there with the door locked waiting for Damien to return to me. ‘He will be back, you did great by not shifting.’ Nia said. I nod and rest my head on the wall. Waiting.

Damien,

‘Charlie, I need you on the north creek, rogues are surrounding Laney and myself. I am going to send her to the cabin, in her human form, I need you here now.’ I mind-link Laney ‘Don’t shift, I want you to run towards the cabin and lock all doors and hide in the shelter in the pantry. GO!’

Once she got up, Aiden just took off towards the rogues, giving Laney enough time to go. Aiden tears into rogue after rogue, not caring about anything. All of a sudden, Charlie mind-linked me. 'We are here,' 'did you see Laney?' I asked him in the mind-link. 'Yes, she was running towards the cabin in her human form, I had a couple of warriors stay behind her to make sure there were no stragglers.' Charlie told me.

I felt so relieved that I continued to fight and without any worry. 'She is fine, we can feel them both.' Said Aiden. He then continued ripping throats till there was no one left.

I then shift back and grab a pair of shorts. I grabbed some for Charlie, as he heads towards me. He puts his shorts on. "I don't understand, how did they get this far into the pack?" Said Charlie.

"I don't know. It's like they knew where we were," I told him.

"I want you to investigate. I need details on what happened, and how they got past the patrols on the north side of the border." I told him before heading back to the cabin.

I walk into the cabin and take a deep breath. I can't sense her. I hope that she is still here. I walk towards the pantry and open the back and I see her leaning against the wall asleep. I gather her up in my arms. She stirs a bit but soon falls back to sleep. I walk over to the bedroom and lay her down on the bed. I grab a blanket from the couch and lay it over her.

I grab my laptop from my bag by the bed and sat on the couch and checked a few emails.

I know that the council is heading down in a week, so I need to get everything under control by then.

I received a mind-link from my father. 'Son, we heard what happened, is Laney okay? Her parents are freaking out.' He told me.

'She is fine, she is asleep at the moment. I made sure that she was protected. What happened? How did the rogues get this far in?' I asked my father.

'I am not sure, son, I will figure this out.' He said.

'No one knows about her, it felt like we were being targeted.' I told him. Which was true.

'I will look into this and let you know. I think we should keep Laney's wolf a secret right now.'

I for once agreed with my father.

'Okay, please let me know what you find.'

I continue checking emails, 'Aiden, how is it that when we walked in to the cabin to find Laney, we couldn't smell her?'

It is confusing, 'powers of a white wolf, they can mask their scent. You felt that she was okay, but we couldn't smell her because her wolf was keeping her safe.' Aiden said.

My mate is amazing, she will start training tomorrow afternoon.

I then get into bed behind her and pull her against me. I put my nose at the crook of her neck to stay calm.

"I thought I almost lost you. I can't loose you, you are my one and only. Please stay safe." I whispered then kissed her mark and I finally fell asleep.
