New girl in town

It's 7 am, the alarm beeped and the green big eyes opened wide. William entered the room and asked with excitement,

“Ready for your first day at college huh?”

“Did you say college?” uttered Mariane

“Yes, it’s certainly your first day at college. I talked to my old friend Henry who is the vice president of staff members in Hunter College. He took a look at your previous grades and eagerly promoted you to college. He said you will do great there. What do you say, honey, isn’t this an excellent opportunity to become familiar with the top college of Crystal valley”, William responded in happiness

“Maybe it's still the same here whether school or college, papa”, said Mariane

“You’ll be alright honeypot; you are great at adapting I know”

“I’ll try my best papa”, Mariane said smiling

“Let’s finish your breakfast, and then I’ll drop you off at college”

“Yes, papa”

The town seemed quiet and cold, streets wet and people walking on the streets reminded me of the season the walking dead.

“Have a great day, honeypot”, William said

“You too papa” Mariane closed the car door and entered the door of the college in rather a cold state.

While entering the college, everything seemed focused on me like some fox has entered the kingdom of lions and now they are ready to hunt it and so I got the logic of the name “Hunter College”. I could hear the constant whispering quoting “It’s the new girl”, “she is so old-fashioned”, “How about I get her first?” and the hysterical laughs being hitting me like stones. Then after a while, a girl approached me. She was tall, had back hair and jet black eyes.

“Hey, you must be Mariane, right? I am Mia. Professor Henry asked me to guide you through, you know” she chuckles

“Good to have you, Mia, I was hoping to get someone by my side so that I could get rid of the wolfed stares”

“You are the fresh piece in town, the get to used thing will take some time, don’t worry” Mia responded

“Lemme show you your class, and the good thing is you will be having major courses with me Mariane”

Mariane smiled. Entering the classroom, I could feel the gazing eyes set on me and hear the gossips. The English professor Liam standing on the rostrum turned to me and smiled then introduced me to the class. Of course, the class didn’t seem welcoming. The professor asked me to join anyone so that he could proceed. After taking class, Mia accompanied me to the cafeteria where she told me each of the minor details about the college. I could barely listen to her as I was swaying onto a lot of entangled thoughts. Just when I was busy wandering around my thoughts, I got distracted when I saw a boy coming in. He was a tall boy, wearing a hoodie. I could only get a glimpse of him as his face was bowed down as he walked in and out. The moment his eyes and mine collapsed, I could feel the acquaintance like I have seen him and even knew him. The moment got stranded and I could feel my nerves getting over me like I was shunned from my surroundings and the only thing that mattered at that moment was a time-lapse where I would only want to gaze at that amazing human being as long as I could.

“Who is that, Mia?” Mariane asked both in a state of defiance and eagerness

“What who, the guy in the hoodie?” Mia promptly responded

“Yes, certainly” Mariane replied with a spark in her eyes

“Honey, you just need to get over this first attempting glance that will be best for you” Mia replied with a soft chuckle

“Why is something wrong with him?”

“Well, the problem is that nothing is wrong or right with him. He is just coming through alone, attending classes, getting beetroot juice from the cafeteria or maybe a sandwich too and then just rush off without even talking or seeing anybody, he’s a weirdo but a handsome one of course”

“Could be if you say so” Mariane replied lost in thoughts of the new guy

The rain came pouring down, I was standing with the umbrella above me, waiting for my dad to pick me up, when I saw him going into the forest and I wondered why would he be going through the forest in such heavy rain, might be having a home on the other side or maybe he was going to meet someone there. I wish I could follow him down but at the very instant papa arrived and I have to leave him be.

The nights were not the same for me as my parents started arguing on several things as if they were related to our shifting and of course they should be as it was not planned or even ideological to come to this place where both of my parents were born and then flew off to my birthplace Townville to start a new life but who knew we would be stuck in the same old s**t that my parents were avoiding owing to some reason that I still didn’t know.

I used to write each of the minor details in my favorite diary but that day it was somehow more interesting because my writing was strolled to an exciting moment which I wrote down with utter happiness and didn’t know if I’ll be able to write more about it. I kept looking at the forest through my window if I could see the glimpse of the creature that welcomed me the other day and I kept thinking about if I could go down the forest and find out by myself what lies there. The only reason that was keeping me away was papa who advised me strictly not to make my way through the forest in any of the causes. But that only grew my interest.

I was getting used to my new house but the college; was becoming more of a nightmare for me with each turning day. On the 15th of January, while I was taking putting my notes in the locker, an incident happened that could only make things worse. A group of boys who were known to be the alpha hunters of college or at least they tagged themselves with such, teasing and offending students off while passing stopped and stood right behind me. I ignored my level best but they knew how to stroke you.

“Maria it is alright, how are you doing? I was umm planning to welcome you properly but I was busy somewhere else” Joe spoke softly as he started moving his fingers down my back

“Excuse me, I have a class to attend to” I tried to outrun them but they blocked my way and started scarring me

Another guy probably the right hand of Joe, Miles started rubbing his hand over my shoulder when I lost my nerves and blew a punch on Joe’s face as he was standing in front of me and ran away. I could not imagine the after an episode of what will happen to me when I have disgraced the only elite student of the college as Joe was the son of the prominent shareholder of our college and one of the biggest businessmen of the town.

I ran to my class and sat down pretending like nothing happened but only I could feel the rage and pain that I was facing then. My heart, felt like it would burst out and I would not be able to see my family again, I was losing myself when Mia came in and joined me. She started asking me something when I looked at her, she managed to understand me and take me to the girls’ bathroom. I started crying and sobbing. Mia tried her level best to calm me down and ask me what happened. I just told her about the start and she blocked me saying

“It’s okay, you are gonna be alright I promise. I am here, don’t you worry nothing is going to hurt you again. Come here”

She hugged me tight and I could feel my nerves soothing in a matter of time. That day was hard and while I sat down to writes down the details of the day, I asked myself if I need to write down the worst days too and then closed my diary if that day would be gone away as a bad memory which needed not to be written down or remembered.

On the weekend, mama and papa decided to take a ride off to their old friends and asked me if I wanted to come but I refused and lied about some urgent assignments. It was around 2 pm when they left and promised to return before 8, so I had plenty of time to roam about and discover the town. I packed some sandwiches and two juice cans, put them in my bag, and started to walk out. I called Mia to join me but she was busy with her family gathering so I decided to go to the forest alone.

I was standing on the outskirts of the forest and wondering whether I’m going to come out alive today or otherwise. I turned my head, gave a glance to my house, and inhaled deeply.
