I
"Elliot, what's the fastest way to fall asleep?" I asked, pulling off his earphones.
"And that... just cost me the championship, way to go sister," Elliot jumped and sighed before pouting miserably, "I was this close, this close to beating that dude. We've built up the defense, and we're already..."
I struggled to stay focused on his gaming talk, Elliot sighed loudly, "Well, if you can't sleep, you could always watch me play."
I shook my head, "I would rather watch a time-lapse video on babies taking a nap."
"But you hate babies. And that's really boring."
I smiled mirthlessly, "Exactly."
Elliot was my younger brother and both of us were stuck in our villa due to bad weather. We were unable to head back to the city and even though I had tons of deadlines to meet, I could do nothing about it due to my severe case of insomnia. It was disruptive to say the least. I haven't had a single spark of creativity in two weeks and, oh Gawd, the deadlines!
"What about alcohol?"
"Checked."
"Sleeping pills?"
"Checked."
Elliot eyed me incredulously, "And you're still walking perfectly fine? If I didn't know any better, I would have thought you're seeking a quick ticket to the Above."Now that he's mentioned, I did feel a wave of discomfort in my head. Was it me or do I see three Elliots now?
I rubbed my temples and dropped to my knees as Elliot rushed to my side, evidently stunned by my sudden movements. He patted my shoulders gently, "Aly, you're scaring me. Are you alright?"
I shook my head. Elliot was confused, "Is that no, you're not alright, or yes, you're fine."
I nodded my head shakily, my mouth was turning dry as Elliot hopped around like an i***t, "Do you mean yes, you're not alright or no, you're fine? I can't tell, Aly!"
I sighed and frowned as the familiar lure of sleep pulled my consciousness away.
Elliot shook me vigorously and he was about to reach for the phone when he heard my snores. Tossing the phone aside, he carried me and tucked me on the sofa bed as he continued with his games.
He sighed loudly, "Sweet dreams, Ale."
