Chapter 15 : Things are better this way.

They were getting close. Jisun had become a constant presence in Minjun’s life without warning. Even when Chan couldn’t make it to their scheduled dinner, Jisun never failed for even one day. Almost as if they had their own special place, Minjun and Jisun would go to the Subway store everytime Chan was absent. Not his favorite place, but the sandwiches were good. Also Minjun wasn't as upset as he thought he would be. And the fact that their classes ended almost at the same time everyday, Jisun enthusiastically suggested that they really had to go home together even when they wouldn't have dinner together. Every.single.time. But Minjun and Chan were in their third year, and the exams were getting closer. No matter how collected they were, they still couldn't escape the tension. Especially when everyone around them were expressing their stress so openly at any moment, Minjun couldn't help but to be affected by it too. Instead of hanging at a restaurant, Chan decided that they needed to change it into studying together instead. Either camping at the library or invading Chan's house were the plan. Minjun agreed right immediately while Jisun didn't have any other choice but to follow them. But Minjun didn't like it. Everyone knew how Jisun was a social butterfly person and it was kind of strange to see him stuck in a constant pattern with the same people most of the time. At least Minjun was bothered by it. What if Jisun loses friends because hanging out with us too much? So he asked Jisun in a whisper, "Why don't you just hang out with others at your age?" The question was asked out of concern, but others who heard it would have had another thought about Minjun's intention. It was very human nature to interpret things as how they want to. “Don’t you have any other friends?” Minjun was honestly a little bit curious about it too. Why was Jisun so adamant on being friends with them in the first place? "Woah I'm still having trouble adapting to the way you… talk." Chan exclaimed a bit too loud which evoked annoying glances from other library visitors. Minjun shoved the guy's shoulder playfully then put his attention back to Jisun across the table, waiting for an answer. "You want me to… go?" Jisun pointed to the library door with his thumb. He asked rather slowly, as if he was trying to be careful in interpreting Minjun's words rather than being hurt because of it. "Do I disturb your study time, hyung?" "See! Minjun-ah, please elaborate more for the sake of our poor lil bro. He has a weak heart, come on!" Chan embraced his shoulder and swayed him left and right. Minjun glared at the guy on his side then said, "Nevermind. Just continue your game." He pointed at the phone Jisun had been playing with ever since they arrived at the library. Just like what he said before, Jisun had become a constant presence in his life, he was used to the younger's presence. So, either he wanted Jisun to go or he was being a disturbance, none of them ever crossed his mind. Alas, Jisun didn't know about it and probably he would never know if Minjun didn't make it clear enough. With dejected feelings and guilt, Jisun turned off his phone and was ready to give his seniors the peace he thought they needed. "Where are you going?" Minjun said in a hurry. Grabbed the junior’s hand, preventing him from walking away from their table. Jisun pondered at the fingers circling around his wrist before answering, "I'll play this outside." "Just... stay." Minjun tugged the hands a bit then let go. "If there's someone whose presence bothers me right now, it's not you. So stay." Minjun ignored the playfully offended look Chan displayed while saying, “Is it me then? How could you?” Like a puppy wiggling its tail, Jisun sat back with a smile. "But stop moving your damn legs. You wanna take a piss or what?" Minjun liked cats more after all. They didn’t stay for too long in the library. They were not some model students who would use the library until it’s closing time. So until it was thirty minutes until closing time, the three decided to call it a day already and ready to go home. When they were walking down the hall and engaged themself in some random conversation, Minjun stopped his step. He was looking at the snack vending machine and remembered that they were skipping dinner today. “What is it?” Chan asked. “Aren't you hungry?” But without even waiting for anyone’s answer Minjun walked straight towards the huge square machine and inserted some coins he found from his pocket. It only took him about three minutes to finally have a pack of bread and a can of milk soda. “Bro, I’m on a diet. Gotta prepare for the physical test-” “Not for you.” Minjun curtly said. He opened the milk can for himself then gave the bread to the silent junior. “Here, you stubbornly stuck with us and played that game.” “Ah, for me.” “Don’t like it?” Jisun shook his head in panic and took the bread at a light speed. “No- I mean yes...uh thank you, hyung.” But the younger one didn't directly open it to eat. He just held it in his left hand and followed the seniors to continue walking. Minjun didn’t say anything about it. “Play favorites are we not?” Chan teased him. “I know you’re on a diet. You’ve been bitching about it for a whole month now.” Chan scoffed then laughed it off. The three of them continued conversing with each other until they reached the bus stop. Chan was being picked up by his family chauffeur, something Minjun hadn’t seen in a while. But Chan didn’t tell him about the occasion yet, so Minjun didn’t bother to ask. He would tell him later anyway. “Hyung,” Jisun called once they were seated inside the bus. “I’ve never seen you ride your motorbike to school. Why? Wouldn’t it be easier for you?” “Hmm… obviously.” he answered, confirming Jisun’s analysis. “But riding it is not as easy as how it used to be anymore. Things are different now. And it's better that way, I think.”
