Steph froze, caught in the terribly uncomfortable certainty that her heart, lungs, the very blood in her veins had seized up solid.
She’d tried to convince herself that finding out Bobby had an entire hidden life as a tormentor of vulnerable people had been the worst surprise she could have gotten from him. That night back in Louisville when she cowered in terror as he told her all about it certainly should have been enough.
The fury and disgust only a couple of hours ago made perfect sense, when Jay linked those two names together.
But hearing it said out loud like that, and with Mrs. Seagon to back it all up, turned the whole idea into a brand new shock.
Not just that Bobby could have pulled something like that off, or even that he would want to.
