Chapter Three
Valtina was shocked when she returned to the house. An older woman, who Valtina immediately knew was Claire’s favorite aunt, was leaving with James.
“Thank you so much, Aunt Alice,” Claire smiled nervously.
“Thank you! I’ve been begging for a slumber party with this little man for months! Now don’t you worry! James and I will be just fine. And if it gets too hard for you just call and I’ll bring him right home.”
“I’m going to try to make it.” Claire laughed. “But don’t be surprised if you get a 2 a.m. phone call.” Valtina felt Claire’s twinge of pain as Alice’s car disappeared down the street. “No need for that.” Valtina thought.
