Maybelle's Dangerous Mate

{Maybelle's POV} My mother came in my room and sat next to me with a new book for our evening reads. She looks worried, or maybe sad. "May I'm so sorry but you're going to have to read by yourself tonight." She is definitely worried. "What's wrong Mom?" I reach over and grab her hand in mine as she starts to get up. "I don't know how to say this without lying to you little love." She turned back to be, creasing her brows "Your father and I are needed at the pack borders in a few hours. We got a tip that the Firebird pack is going to strike an attack while we sleep." she told me quietly knowing I would want to join. "Let me come w-" "No" she interrupted me "You're far to young to be in battle May. And you have to stay here to protect all your things" she tucked my hair behind my ear lovingly before handing me the book she was holding and leaving me alone with so many feelings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ {Now} "Come on May May you're gonna make us late!" My best friend Koda laughed as she pulled me out of my room and down to the training grounds. "Koda I don't think 10 minutes early is late" She was probably the most punctual person I knew. Koda liked to keep to schedules. "It is for me! I won't get to see Gamma Charlie warm up!" She squeeled as she tugged my arm harder to get to our spot on the warm up track. She had a huge crush on our Gamma. Though I don't blame her for it. He was so tan and muscular, and even get me started about his gorgeous green eyes. As we stretched out legs and other muscles Koda gawked at Charlie and his group. Alpha Kaden wasn't training today it seemed. We stretched for a few more minutes before Charlie announced that he would be leading training for the day. "And don't think I'll be easy on you girls like Kaden is" He raised an eyebrow, looking in my direction. "With all due respect Gamma, Nobody goes easy on me. I'm just hard to beat." I met his stare defiantly, ignoring the fact that his attention solely on me made my stomach flip. Okay so maybe I had a bit of a crush on him too, but I wasn't going to tell a soul that. It would crush Koda. After training I headed back to the pack house by myself to shower and throw on clean clothes, leaving Koda behind to flirt. As I'm walking up the stairs an omega named Jamie asked if I could do trash duty for her today. Although she was about to tell me why I simply cut her off, telling her I would, continuing my tech to my amazing shower and minty soaps. I step out of the shower, wrapping a soft towel around me and walk out of my steamy bathroom to stand in front of my full length mirror, staring at myself. I'm not drop dead gorgeous like the Luna. My hair was very long and bone straight. which is usual for redheads. My skin too pale. Too many freckles and far too much bosom. especially for a warrior. All the other female warriors were thin. Very little to their body, why was I different? I pressed my fingers into my cheeks and stretched them, hoping a different face would appear. "I hope you're not hating on yourself again May" Alpha Kaden said from my bed, making me gasp. "Kaden! what on earth are you doing!" I exclaim trying to cover my towel covered body. Kaden was like a brother to me. his dad, the previous alpha too me in 7 years ago. Him being in my private room was not a surprise to me, but him being here unannounced was. "You are pretty Maybelle" his features softened, knowing this was a sensitive topic for me "Your mate will come. If you want we can go and visit some other packs. Find him. " he suggested softly I shook my head "No. I can't. I just can't handle that. I don't want to talk anymore. please leave so I can get dressed and go to work." I stomped my foot lightly on the carpet, letting him know I was done. Finally leaving, Kaden stopped to place a brotherly kiss on my forehead before closing my door on his way out. Exasperated, I fall back onto my bed, letting a tear escape as I hold my face in my hands.
