{Maybelle} "I can't. people will find it weird that you are personally training with a nobody instead of finding your mate Kaden. Don't you want your mom to be able to finally relax and step down as Luna?" Kaden thought that I needed more training. more than I already do might I add. "Yes I know. I've heard this speech too many times. I could say it word for word every time I ask you. But this time I'm not asking. I am telling you as your alpha Maybelle." I could feel his aura slowly washing over me, forcing me to finally submit after beads of sweat form from trying to fight it. "Fine. You win." I cross my arms as he grins ear to ear, happy it didn't take much fighting this time. " I told you we need to be stronger for our mate. Fierce. A force to be reckoned with, and training with an alpha like Kaden will help" Calypso stated matter-of-factly, seemingly mad at my stubbornness. "Wow, can't be on my side for once?" Calypso and I fight often. I just want to fade into the background while she wants us to be the star of the show. After my parents died the moon goddess gifted Calypso to me earlier than most wolves. I suppose she knew I needed her. But what Calypso didn't know was that I didn't want people giving me pity like they used to. I would not be looked at like that again, so I faded into the background and my life has been so much easier. Around noon Kaden handed off all my work tasks against my very loud discouragement. We went to the training ground and started stretching for a warmup run. I knew I couldn't beat him. but at least its gonna be a fun challenge. Being shorter than his statue like stature helped a little, but not much. "Could you discreetly let me win? You know just this once?" I gasped 30 feet behind him on our fifth lap, we still had five to go. "Where's the fun in that mouse?" he laughed over his shoulder, clearing not fatigued at all and using his annoying nickname for me to purposely agitate me. After he won we start one on one combat. I already know how to fight, but I guess its time to fine tune my skills. "You know you have to act like I'm about to kill you right May?" Kaden sighed, sounding completely exasperated. "Kaden I am. I have been this whole time!" I exclaim, trying to land a blow to his toned abs but he blocked. Again. "You do realize that you are the Alpha? You're literally the strongest here. Nobody is gonna be able to beat you. This isn't a fair fight" I through punch after punch, kick after kick, sweating and out of breath. finally I land a kick to his side. "Whoo!" I jump up with excitement only to be knocked to the ground with a returned kick to my ribs. "Ouch" I glare up at Kaden. He raised his shoulders into a shrug " You let your guard down. I had to take my final shot. You will win one day. But if it makes you feel better, you did way better than most do!" he grinned down at me, holding out his hand to help me up. "Why don't I belive you" I raised my eyebrow at him in suspicion only for him to double over in laughter. " So serious little mouse." he pulled me into a headlock and dug his knuckles into my hair in such a brotherly way, making me both wince in pain and smile with joy for the affectionate action. Later that evening at dinner I sat at the ranked table in the packhouse dining room, like usual, listening to all the guys talk about fighting and other dude stuff. I don't know its like they only like to take about fighting this person or that. I stand up bout to leave when Charlie grabbed my wrist lightly. "Good job today. you're gonna be great one day. " he spoke with pure pride and I blushed deeply from the emotion "Thanks Charles" I squeaked out, pressing my hands against my face and turning away, quickly leaving the room. Slamming my door shut I walk to my window leaning against the open windowsill, staring up at the sky. " Oh Moon Goddess. Please let me find my mate and soon. Tomorrow is my 18th birthday and I do not want to embarrass myself any further with the ranked -" A sound in the woods close by breaks my prayer. Looking down from the third floor i can see lights in the woods- no those aren't lights. That's fire.
