They say courage is a cure all. That if you just stand up for what you believe in then everything will be okay. but what happens after?
I cannot help but think about my adoptive family. and my best friend. I miss them. Not to mention the fact that Kaden hardly gave me the chance to explain. And the fact that I didn't speak up sooner, makes me feel so guilty. I don't have my phone on me since I didn't need it in battle, so I'm going to have to ask to borrow Scott's.
In this current moment, he is clutching me to his chest and quietly watching the fire, as if I will turn to dust if he lets me go.
I lean back slightly, just enough to look at his face. "Could I ask you something?"
Kissing my forehead then looking into my eye he says simply "Yes pet."
Anxiety swirls in my stomach "Could I use a phone to call home? My adoptive family needs to know I'm safe. They think you're a big bad wolf who is going to swallow me whole"
He stares at me for a while, as if contemplating this before a smile grows across his chisled face.
"The big bad wolf?" he chuckles lightheartedly.
"Oh yes!" I state dramatically "You'll steal away with me, consume my innocence and then!" I gasp throwing my hands up to either side of my face in mock shock, not bothering to finish my sentence.
Scott laughs contagiously "Is that so little pet?" he asks in amusement.
"Oh yes! So I have to call, so they know you will love me forever, because you are gonna right?" I add, suddenly scared I may have ruined the moment.
He rubs my shoulders lightly "Of course. Of course I will darling. Here. Use my phone to call them. I on the other hand have to go talk to my beta Dex. his number in in my phone too. Just send him a text when you're done." he pokes the tip of my nose and sets me down in my chair, grabbing a blanket to cover me.
I wait for him to finish walking down the hallway so I know he's out of earshot before dialing the Luna's number.
"Hello?"
"Hey...its me. I forgot my phone so I had to borrow one."
"Oh thank goddess, May! Kaden! come quick!"
"May? where are you? Are you okay? Did they hurt you? I swear to the goddess I will kill them." Kaden's words came fast and angry.
"No, no. Kaden. I'm not hurt. The alpha has been kind. He is my fated mate."
There's a moment of silence on the other end of the phone.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Kaden whispered, sounding hurt.
"Oh Kaden. I didn't know very long. I was confused. That howl you heard? That was Scott claiming me as his mate."
"O-okay. And you want to be there with him? W-with this Scott? I thought he killed your parents?"

"I thought so too. But his dad wouldn't even go to the battle. And he comes off as this horrible monster but he's been so kind to me."
"So this is a good thing? You're just leaving the pack?"
"Yes. As much as I want to come home, he has asked me to be his Luna. And I have accepted."
"Okay." Click.
I just sit there staring at the phone. I'm not ready to be in this pack. Everything is just so sudden. This is right May. Calypso says softly.
Is it though. Everything about this feels so wrong. So weird. Why would he replicate the attack that killed my parents? Why hasn't he explained it. He acts like this is just another day of death and destruction.
No May. You're just looking for ways to deny what's happening. Finds facts in your fears. If you want to know why he did it go fu.cking ask him. Stop being a baby! Calypso growled at me, suddenly pissed.
At that moment Scott walks into the room. I hear him come to a stop when I don't look up at him.
"What's wrong? What happened?" he asked, sounding concerned.
I still don't respond, lost in thought. Why do they just abandon me like that. After everything. After all we have been through?
Warm hands wrap around mine, covering the phone completely, causinging me to look up.
"What is going on?" Scott asks, standing right above me.
Tears are threatening to spill over my lashes "They're angry with me for choosing a barbarian over them. choosing the unknown." I cry out. "and my wolf thinks I'm a little bi.tch." I add, loosing control.
My mate holds me close to him as I just cry. I try to object but all the stress has finally spilled over and I can't get myself to stop.
I distantly hear comforting murmurs of 'its alright' and 'I'm right here while a large hand rubs my back softly.

After what seems to be hours, I'm just staring into the flames. There are no more tears to rely on. After I find myself more calm, I bring myself to look at Scott. And when I do he smiles down at me.
"Are you better?"
"Yes I think so. This situation is just stressful. Can I ask, why did you start that attack? It was the same way as when my parents left me in my bed 7 years ago." I spoke with hope, knowing it could be crushed. I want him to be a good man. I NEEDED him to be.
"I was angry. At the fact that you're Alpha had his fated mate. I was hoping to draw your pack in and kill as many as I could then retreat. I wanted to kill someone. anyone, and its just our two packs here in this forest. The fire was not my doing. I love the forest. I wouldn't hurt it. I will start an interrogation amount my soldiers and punish the guilty. You have my word."
I look up at him hopefully. He isn't lying and you know it May. Calypso snorts.
"I know."
"Okay. I believe you Scott. I'm sorry, this isn't the greatest first impression. I need clothes. and my things but my now previous Alpha hung up on me, so I couldn't ask." I say with disbelief.
"First you rest, just a nap. And when you wake up I will have your things." he helped me stand
"Um, I know that its not traditional , but could I possibly have my own, uh quarters? Just till we get to know each other better?" I look over at him, carefully trying to decipher his expressions.
"Yes pet, thats perfectly fine." he stated calmly.
He walks me to a room on the third story, opens the door and kissed my head "theres a landline on the nightstand. call this number if you need me." he hands me a post it note.
I nod " Okay, I will."
