THURSDAY MORNING, Bonita received a text message from Barry saying he had found Duck and that he was “well although a tad smelly and a lot hairy” which made her laugh despite her earlier anxiety.
She phoned him back straight-away. They spoke in short, cryptic sentences, despite that Duck had guessed who it was that his older brother was having a chat with.
Barry tried to get them to talk, but Duck refused to speak to her.
The good doctor was left to inform her of their plan to drive home to Gulf Savannah, in far north Queensland to Bryce and Belle’s outback station.
‘Are you stopping at Townsville?’ she asked.
‘We’ll probably stop there.’
