Lillian returned to the shop on Montague Road feeling light and happy at finding Catherine safe and sound. Her mood dampened at the sound of hammering coming from behind the cottage. She skirted down the side and found Nicholas crouched in the backyard with a stack of wooden stakes, knocking them into the ground one at a time.
