Chapter 12
They found Ben back at the medical facility, sitting in the lobby with a young woman. She didn’t look much out of her teen years, with skin nearly as dark as Ben’s and an upward tilt to her eyes. She leaned forward with her elbows on her knees, sobbing.
Ben glanced up at Luis when he and Tegwin walked in, his own eyes red. He rubbed the woman’s back but didn’t say anything.
Another nurse opened the office window, waving Luis and Tegwin over.
“Is anything wrong? I saw Helen and Drew leave a while ago.”
“We’re fine,” Tegwin said, keeping her voice low. “We need to speak to Ben whenever he’s free. Can you let him know, please?”
The door beside the nurse’s window opened, and a woman’s voice called the younger woman. She scrubbed at her eyes, hugged Ben, and walked inside.
