CHAPTER ONE
Run! Lyra, Runnn!!!. Xena, Lyra's mother screamed at the top of her voice, the fear in her voice could be heard in the darkness of the night as she was single-handedly fighting off two members of the rogue werewolves who were attacking their pack. Lyra stood frozen not knowing what to do. It all still looked like a weird dream to her. But it was real, it was all real. Their pack had been attacked by another pack of rogue werewolves. Her father, the alpha of the pack, was in the heat of the fight alongside some stronger werewolves of the pack. Mumm? Lyra called out, her voice shaky and sounding like a whisper at best. Tears began to roll down her cheeks as she saw her mother receive two deadly blows from both werewolves she was fighting. Xena fell. Blood rushed through Lyra's veins as she finally got the courage to run and hide like her mother had asked her to. Holding tightly to her doll, Lyra ran as fast as her tiny legs could carry her, but she stumbled and she fell. Almost immediately, Lyra got up, without bothering to dust herself. She continued running, still maintaining her tight grip on her doll, like her life depended on it. Suddenly, Lyra stopped. She hid behind a tree, trembling. Though it was dark, Lyra could still see her mother fighting from afar. She watched as the werewolves tore her mother to pieces without remorse. She screamed but no sound came out of her mouth. Get over here! A voice commanded. Lyra woke up speedily. She's been having these dreams for many years now, and each time it seemed like she was experiencing the ordeal all over again. The night her father and mother were slaughtered in cold blood. How could she forget? Walking amongst a sea of dead werewolves? Walking in a pool of blood? Seeing many internal organs scattered about? Lyra shuddered, wrapping her arms around her body. She wondered what life would have been like if her parents were still alive. “I wouldn't be living in this dump” Lyra thought aloud. She also wouldn't have been subjected to doing the work of a maid. “But I have no choice” Lyra whispered to herself as her eyes began to get hot with tears. The downturn her life took ever since the death of both her parents would bring her to tears each time she had that dream. She got demoted to the rank of an omega werewolf by Troy the new alpha of the pack. But why is Troy treating her like this? Lyra asked within herself. Troy was taken in by Lyra's parents after he came to their pack as an orphan and lone survivor of a fierce battle. Lyra tried racking her brain to think of anything she might have done to make Troy detest her. But there was none. She only ever loved him. Lyra laid down flat on her bed again as she tried to catch a bout of sleep before day break. Her thoughts wandered off again. Lyra jumped out of bed, as if she was poked with a needle. She had suddenly remembered her doll. The doll she held so tight on the worst day of her life. She walked up to her wardrobe and pulled out the first drawer but there was nothing there. The second drawer also had nothing in it except a necklace that belonged to Lyra's mother. She closed the second drawer almost immediately, she didn't want to start crying all over again. Besides, her head was starting to ache. Lyra began to feel uneasy as she couldn't remember where the doll was. She felt like she was in some kind of trouble. She began to empty the contents of her wardrobe, tossing every other thing aside like they didn't matter and have no use to her. Anything that wasn't the doll was useless in that moment. As she was about to scream in frustration, Lyra thought to look under her bed. And as she did, there it was. Staring at her with its face devoid of any emotion just like on the night her parents died. Lyra stretched out her hand and grabbed the doll. Without bothering to clean up the mess she had made, Lyra jumped on her bed with some joy as she hugged the doll tightly. It was like all her life's troubles were suspended in that moment. Lyra began to fondle her doll. Smiling as she stroked the hairs, she remembered that her father had gifted her the doll on her birthday, a week before their pack was attacked. She broke down in tears again, this time trying to force a smile but it didn't help. She let the tears flow freely. It was in this moment that Lyra realized the mess she had made while she was searching for her doll. She pulled her hair in frustration, as she realized the work she had cut out for herself. But it was worth it. She took a final stare at her doll in admiration before she decided to start cleaning up the mess. She began to hastily pack her clothes, putting them back in the wardrobe without folding them. Lyra was in a haste to catch some sleep before day break and her head still ached from all the crying. When she was done, Lyra climbed her bed and covered her body with her blanket. Sinking her aching head in her soft pillows, Lyra began to fall asleep. Lyra could swear she hadn't been asleep for more than ten minutes when she heard a voice shout her name in her dreams Lyra! The voice called out. Lyra still lay on her bed half awake, not sure if the voice was from her dream or not. Lyra! The voice called out again, louder this time. Only now did Lyra realized the voice wasn't from her dream. Lyra! The voice shouted for the third time echoing in the hallway. Lyra jumped out of bed as she realized what was going on. “Not again”, she exclaimed.
