Lyra was sure she didn’t do anything wrong. She stood up from her bed fearfully to confront the warriors, anticipating a response from them.
“You’re under arrest for stealing the bloodstone ring from the pack treasury” the leader of the warriors who had spoken earlier shouted again.
“Bloodstone? Ring? I have no idea what you’re talking about” Lyra said looking puzzled as she tried to vindicate herself from what she thought was a mistake.
“You’re making mistake” Lyra shouted this time, as the warriors began to search her room thoroughly and roughly. A small crowd was already beginning to gather in her small room.
“You wouldn’t find anything here” Lyra continued, trying to clean up the mess the warriors were making as they continued searching relentlessly. She was already getting uncomfortable, and the small crowd in her room weren’t making the situation any better.
To matters worse, Troy and Eira arrived at the scene. Troy had earlier sent the guards to arrest Lyra but he decided to come and see to things for himself because the warriors were taking a lot of time and he needed the celebrations to start as soon as possible.
“What’s going on here? What’s taking so long” he growled angrily.
“We’re still looking for the ring, alpha Troy” the leader of the warriors answered the angry alpha.
“Where did you put it? Where?” Troy barked, facing Lyra this time.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” Lyra said cowering in fear. Flashes of what happened between her and Troy the other night were beginning to come to her.
“You liar” Troy said clenching his fists.
“Bring in the maids to tell me what they saw” Troy shouted, this time turning to Eira.
“Okay alpha” Eira replied, trying to hide the fact that she was smiling.
Four maids came in, following Eira. All of them gave similar testimonies, that they saw Lyra enter and exit the treasury immediately she left the kitchen. One of them even claimed to have seen Lyra concealing something as she left the treasury.
“Then where did you hide it?” Troy barked at Lyra, getting closer to her.
“I said I don’t know what you’re talking about” Lyra voice began to shake as she shouted at the top of her voice. She was already crying. She was shocked. She couldn’t believe the maids could say such false things about her. Bullying and maltreating her was one thing but cooking such false stories about her was something else, she thought.
“Just tell them where the ring is Lyra, you might get a lighter punishment” Eira said, showing fake concern.
“I know where she hid the ring” a voice shouted from amongst the small crowd in Lyra’s room.
Eira smirked. She had conspired with the maids to lie against Lyra and plant the ring in her room, and they all agreed easily because they all hated Lyra, even though they were omega werewolves too.
“I know where the ring is” the voice shouted again. This time Lyra could recognize the voice. It was at that time she realized she hadn’t seen Anna for the past day.
“I know where she put it” Anna said avoiding Lyra’s gaze. Lyra was speechless.
Anna walked over to where she had earlier planted the gem in Lyra’s room.
“Here it is” she said bringing it out.
“Oh Lyra dear, what have you done?” Eira said showing concern. But Lyra knew it was false.
“I don’t know how it got here” Lyra shouted, looking at Anna. She was astonished, as she tried to defend herself.
“I have nothing to do with this” Lyra continued, trying to hold back the tears.
“Oh don’t lie Lyra” Anna said with disgust, rolling her eyes.
“Didn’t your parents teach you that stealing is bad?” Anna continued, smiling.
“How could you Anna? How could you?” were the words that came out of Lyra’s mouth. She wondered what had gotten into Anna that made her do this.
“Why?” Lyra asked Anna but she got no reply. Someone who always stood up for her whenever she was bullied by the other members of the pack, the only one she trusted in the pack. Lyra was shocked that Anna’s attitude towards her could change in an instant.
The warriors saw the bag Lyra packed to run away with.
“Did you plan to run away with the ring?” Troy shouted as he barked at Lyra.
Lyra said nothing. They could think whatever they wanted for all she cared, nothing she says would be taken seriously anyways.
“You would show me respect as alpha” Troy barked at Anna, slapping her across the face.
“Respond to me when I’m talking to you” he continued.
“I wasn’t” Lyra replied, even if she knew they wouldn’t believe her. It was the word of the maids, Eira and Anna against hers. Lyra wasn’t holding back the tears anymore. She knew she had been set up. But why? She asked within herself.
Eira wore a large smile, she had given the ring to Anna and asked her to hide it in Lyra’s room earlier that morning, while Lyra was in the kitchen. She exchanged glances with Anna, with a look of approval, as if to tell her “well done”.
“Take her to the torture grounds” Troy roared
Lyra was silent, she showed no form of resistance as the warriors dragged her to the torture grounds. She had resigned to her fate.
But why was life and the moon goddess dealing badly with her, what has she done to deserve this? She asked within herself as the was dragged to the torture grounds.
“Tie her to the poles” Troy thundered.
