CHAPTER 1
Beep! Beep! Beep!
Today is the day. The day Sherissa would start kindergarten and I have an interview at nine for a new job. I have been working from home since my wife's death, I've finally taken that one last breath and is ready to move on.
It was childbirth that caused her death. She had an unexpected heart attack right after the delivery, I was later pushed from the room so the nurses could make their attempts but it was late. I walked to my daughter's pink designed room only to find her crying. Clutching her pink pillows, sobbing loudly.
“Daddy, did I mommy killed herself because of me? Did I do something wrong why she left?”
So much damn heartache. It's not the first time I've found myself in this situation, Sherri has been asking alot of those questions lately, and I have to keep on assuring her.
“Oh no baby girl, never say that again. Your mommy loved you and always will.”
And I lifted her a gave her a hug. Comforting the small child as I held her in my arms tightly.
For a child her age she’s very intelligent yet outspoken. She took everything from her mom. From the blond hair, natural tanned skin and doe brown eyes to the rounded face.
All she took from me was my stubbornness, gosh, she was still a handful. It has always been me and her. Roommates, father and daghter, friends, everything. We've kept each other's company, she was enough to keep the lonely house alive. With her loud chattering, constant tea parties with her teddy bear and porcelain dolls. Creepy as hell but she likes them.
“Come princess you know the routine, shower, breakfast then do whatever you want but you have kindergarten today. Yay!”
I tried to make everything sound exciting. My enthusiasm was short lived she gave me a flat look.
“That hell hole! Surrounded by annoying kids.”
Where did she even learn to speak like that? It ain't in this house.
“Oh my God Muffins! You've never been there before!”
I tried to argue, but she wasn't having any of it. Her hands reached onto her hips in a defensive stance, her face in a frown as she dramatically stomped her tiny feet.
“Daddy, they are stinky. And pick their nose!”
She dramatically hollered against, her face showed nothing but absolute horror.
“Daddy even at the supramarfket, the baby was crying so loud, his snotty nose! Daddy please, no!”
I was horrified.
“Its supermarket babygirl, you pronounced it wrong again.”
I carried her to the shower. Her blue and white dress fell at her feet, I quickly placed in in her hamper, she peeled off her undergarments and goofily jumped into the tub of water.
“Babe. You want your bath toys?”
She looked at me like I'm the most horrifying guy she see in the movies that I told her to not watch.
"I'm a big girl daddy.”
She pouted.
How cute.
Sherri won't be home in the day so I will be working... If I get the job.
After we both got dressed we headed towards the kindergarten just down the street, there, it was, painted in different colours and cartoon characters. Kids bawled their eyes out clinging to their parents like their life dependent on it. I laughed at that.
Poor kids.
Sherissa grinned and smirked at the drama happening in front of her eyes.
I should meet Miss Oakland today, she would be the head for Sherissa's class.
“There she is!”
The old lady approached me swaying in her brown wedged heels and yellow dress, her hair on her shoulders, she smiled and pinched Sheri's cheek.
“Look at this cutie. What's your name darling!”
“Beyonce!”
She sounded chipper, too energetic for my liking nonetheless, she was kind to my child I accepted her hands. But I couldn't help but snort at my child's answer.
“Hello Miss Oakland. How are you doing?”
Her pearly whites showed as she smiled. She was such a beautiful lady.
“Im doing fine thank you Mr. Alexander.”
She quickly drifted the conversation over to the child, who looked like she wanted nothing but to run off with the other kids. Her eyes were all over the place.
“So Sherissa, this is Miss Oakland, you'll be with her until the day ends. She'll take care of you.” I kissed her one last time on the cheek and gave her the packed food.
“Bye daddy. Hurry and come back for me.”
She made that sign with her index finger, rotating it at the side of her head. She was signalling me that Miss Oakland was crazy.
Just for a matter of time until Miss Oakland starts complaining of her nonstop chatting and questions.
Why is the sky blue?
Why do babies cry?
If you we're to lose all your teeth or all your hair which one would you choose?
I got up and got ready to head in town A five minutes drive to the place I intent to go. I have an interview with the Mardona Corporation for a position as the Chief Executive Officer's Personal Assistant. I reached the front desk where a man stood. I walked towards him in an attempt to get some assistance.
Gosh staying at home for years, guess I haven't lost that sociable side of me. It looked as if saw me approaching, I felt slightly uncomfortable as he looked at me from head to toe.
“Um. Hello. I'm Jaiden Alexander, I have an interview in like a few minutes with Mr. Almano for a Assistant position.”
His gaze looked calculating, but his brows raised as if he had realized something.
“So you are the guy huh? There's the elevator, meeting is on third floor, first door on your right.”
He looked at me one last time and licked his lips then winked. My eyes widened, I scampered off without hesitance.
“T- thanks.”
I followed his directions. Pretty accurate. After leaving the elevator I came upon a brown door.
First door on your right.
I had to metally prepare myself. I didn't know what was going to be behind the door when I enter. Gosh, God, please, I need this job.
Posture *check*
Straighten clothes *check*
I took one last deep breath and knocked.
I waited for an answer.
“Come in.”
The deep voice rattled my being. It sent some shivers down my spine, I couldn't help but gasp as I entered the room. Bright lights and a man sitting around a desk. Chiselled jawline, tan skin, black hair, grey eye that pierced through my souls. He was beautiful. The most gorgeous man I've ever seen.
Was it gay to say another man was beautiful?
Who gave birth to such a fine specimen?
