Chapter 19. The arrival of fear

1094 Words
Hunter had been waiting for the moment when his father would leave the house, but the degenerate man did not make a move to leave the kitchen. Without any other choice, he entered the place. The change in the atmosphere was evident obvious, the middle-aged man did not approve of the actions of his youngest son. —You spent all night with that girl and now you're going to look for your brother— the youngest werewolf grabbed a pitcher of orange juice to help himself. —Harley is having trouble controlling the company— he announced —He's got a bad apple, I went to talk about the fraudulent hiring process going on and, before you say anything, I had James look into it first, so I spoke with argument— the self-satisfied smile took over his mouth. —Did you use pack funds for that? —I was willing to pay James' fee, but Harley pointed out that it was the company that provided financial stability to the pack, so I didn't have to pay. Hunter feared the old man would discover his little lie. —What are you talking about? —Someone who has a record as a repeat offender, I thought, we had more class than that and that would tarnish the corporate image they have worked so hard to maintain — always behaving like a complete i***t, thought his father, no doubt Hunter was a pain in the ass they had better get rid of. —So? Do you care about the company's management? You could just work for it.— Hunter let out a laugh, drinking his glass of juice. —Let's not be liars, call your first born, he might have more details— he commented leaving the room —And see that your company doesn't fall down in the process. —The leader of the pack was impressed that the warning was made by his youngest son, but. He by curiosity, he thought he should phone his eldest son. He dialed his personal number. —The alpha was afraid that his father would ask about the situation, because he would want explanations that he could not give him. —Harley, I heard very interesting news about our company having a dubious hiring system, is it true?— the leader of the pack was trying to keep his temper in check. He would surely look like a fool when Harley told him it was a lie. Hunter always made this kind of jokes. —The older man felt as if a bucket of cold water fell on him and, at the same time, as if something visceral was born inside him, an anger that could burn like the sun. —What are you saying to me?— That last sounded like a scream, Harley thought. He had to get everything ready because his father would be coming to the office to make sure he was doing his job. —A person in human resources ignored our hiring protocols and accepted one of his friends from school with a criminal record, and he didn't notice our systems either because the charges were dropped by the women, but the rape charge was present," there was silence after the firstborn finished speaking. —Rape? A RAPIST CAME INTO OUR COMPANY?!— That was all the alpha needed to know, he started moving to get the suit to go to the office, he had to take action on his own, he couldn't believe Hunter's accusations were true and even worse, it was him who is a non-businessman who discovered everything — I'M GOING THERE, AND WHEN I GET THERE YOU'D BETTER PUT THE COMPANY IN ORDER. He hung up. Harley knew that his father would come to be a hurricane in this kind of situation, he would not allow anyone to speak without trying to tear him apart with his attitude, with age he had given in more to the impulses of his inner wolf, having an attitude that was no longer fit to run the company, he hoped that things would go as they should. Andrea Smith had been in her cubicle working as if nothing had happened, but some comments had already begun to spread, they talked about her stay in the infirmary, and the criminal record that her former boyfriend had, he could notice how they wanted to make her the center of criticism, that bothered him. Harley thought quaintly that he wouldn't be able to protect her from her father, the man would talk to her and pounce on her as if she were prey, she hoped, by Hunter's scent on the girl, it would calm his comments, because there would be trouble if something happened, the first born wouldn't allow her to be treated badly either. Hunter smiled as he climbed into his Lamborghini to leave the place, he would be going to the airport to catch a plane for the photo shoot he was scheduled for, when he was in his teens an agent saw him and was interested in him. Hunter wasn't interested in people recognizing him, but his father thought it would be a wonderful thing for one of his sons to be able to attract such good publicity to the pack, so his enemies would know he was a powerful man. He did odd jobs when he had the chance. This was one of them. The photo shoot was scheduled to last no more than a couple of hours. He liked that commercials or movie shoots could stretch out for days, weeks or months, things he disliked greatly, plus just now, he needed to accompany his girl in the evenings. He would have to do his best to bring the session to a successful conclusion. He regretted not being there, to defend Andrea from her father, but he was sure Harley would take care of the situation, plus he wouldn't allow him to undermine his authority either when he had given the old man an ultimatum to withdraw. There were fun things to be done as soon as he got back. Andrea felt the hairs on her neck stand on end. The man of the hour got out of his Rolls Royce and his security detail followed him through the lobby, all the women in the lobby seemed to gasp for air, this was the patriarch of the empire, he was wearing sunglasses and had a stony expression on his face, he was ready to kill anyone who got in his way.
