Why am I no longer safe? What would have happened if my life was in danger?
I couldn't ask yet because first, we needed to get out of there before we are caught trying. Alex cut out the rope tied on both my wrist, as we both tried to break the chains on my leg.
I knew the ball gown would be a problem if we were to run, so I tore it out, leaving me with only the corset and my tights.
Alex looked up at the open space in the cave, it was my first time seeing it and it was too high up, there was no way we would reach that high. "Be on the lookout" she said to me, before climbing onto the rocks.
Alex was super amazing, she was like my big sister ever since I joined the gang. I had my eyes on the guards in case anyone might woke up or might come around to check on me.
Alex got out of the cave and threw down a rope which I tied around my waist. "Pull!" Alex ordered from above and I felt myself being pulled up, just then a couple of the guards came around and saw me descending gloriously.
"She is escaping!" one of them brought to their notice, I saw Caspian too but he did nothing and just watch me go up. "I shall warn the king," the guard said, dashing out.
Once again, I knew more problems were coming as I tried to alert Alex that I was no longer moving and there was heat behind me which was also heading their way.
I didn't even get the chance, though still dangling mid-air, I saw Alex, Pythagoras, Papa, Jamil, and the rest of my family who had come to save me being pulled like they were nothing and made to kneel.
I wanted to cry because I knew this was all my fault, hadn't been I wasn't so greedy then everyone will still be safe.
"Everyone of you is either stupid or you just love each other so much to risk coming here because I will not be merciful enough to let you go" The king walked in still dressed up in his regalia.
"To think Caspian was willing to vouch for you, I know tricksters and thieves like all of you do have something in common. The greed instilled in you will go as far as betraying your people" Sebastian revealed, making way for Pythagoras to get up from his knees.
Like everyone else, I was dumbfounded, I couldn't believe what I saw with my eyes and what I just heard. We were all betrayed by the one person I trusted the most.
"Your job is done, Wilson shall give you your reward," Sebastian said to Pythagoras as they allowed him to leave. Pythagoras couldn't even look at any of us, even me.
I could see how much Alex and Papa were in pain, the betrayal must have hurt a lot but knowing Pythagoras, he must have had a reason for doing this.
While I was occupied with the scenes from the ground floor, someone was up above cutting the ropes which had held me in for quite a long in the air.
One of the guards immediately swooped in to save me. I stood on my own two feet as I looked at the king.
"Please let them all go" I begged.
"Why? You are the one who refused to tell me where the diamonds are and now you want me to let them go, if only you had spoken up earlier" Sebastian said. "Lock them up, they shall be paraded as thieves for everyone to see tomorrow"
"Please" I fell to my knees, begging. Tears flowed from my eyes as I scrambled toward his feet and kissed them. He immediately pulled away, showing his disgust.
It didn't stop me from begging as I added to my plea, "I shall do whatever you want"
"Aurora!" Papa called my name, it was the first time he made contact with me. "Never request a thing like that"
Sebastian smiled, I could see how happy he was.
"Free them" Sebastian ordered, soon after, the guards took away Alex, Papa, and the others.
"Thank you," I said.
"Don't thank me just yet, we still have to discuss what I shall make you as" Sebastian looked pleased, "While Caspian takes her to my chamber, the rest of you shall follow those thieves and retrieve all the things they have stolen" With that he left.
This wasn't the plan, what does he want to use me as? I can't be a concubine to this madman. I don't even want to be anywhere close to him.
The cave was now silent and it was only I and Caspian. I know I could convince him somehow to let me go, he was the only one who didn't raise a finger to stop me from escaping.
"Help me" I looked at him with teary eyes, hoping he falls for it, this was my only chance and I have to seize it.
"I am in no position to. Why would you even think of offering yourself to Sebastian, or why did you even try to run? Sebastian had a gutsy feeling that you would try to escape, if by the next morning, you didn't, you would have been released" Caspian stated as he pulled me up from my knees.
"What should I have done, I was scared to die" I brushed my knee from the dirt.
"Then maybe you shouldn't have stolen or impersonated someone else" Caspian stared me up, "I shall take you to the bathhouse to wash up, from there they shall lead you to the king's chambers," he said.
I was hurt, deeply. I thought Caspian would be kind enough to understand my plight but he was just following through with the orders given.
There was nothing much to be said again. I shall do as I am told for the sake of the life of my family.
