The bath was nice, I must say but the thought of being delivered to the king for lovemaking haunted me severely.
I did have a few plans up my sleeve, I just need to execute it properly.
Caspian had already left.
I was dressed in a red robe, with a velvet veil to cover my head, my nose, and mouth were also covered with a thin see-through scarf. My skin was rubbed with a sort of cream, to smoothen it.
A long line of maids followed strictly behind me as we approached the king's chambers. As we waited to be allowed in, Caspian stormed out angrily, suddenly stopping to look at me.
I lowered my head to protect him from seeing who I had become. I was no longer the image of who he saw before.
He walked off while I was allowed in without the maids.
The room was dimly lit, it smelled a little shady and intoxicating. Sebastian sat on his bed, smoking something I couldn't point out but I know it from somewhere.
"Come closer into the light," he said to me and I did as I was told. Standing close to the candle so he could see my face, I was being respectful. "Take off the veil," he said calmly, relaxing his back to watch the show.
I took off the veil and the scarf covered my mouth. Satisfied with what he saw, he said, "sit with me "
Again, I respected him and was obedient, joining him on the bed. He dropped whatever he was smoking and reached for the drawer.
Whatever he was planning, this was my time to strike!
He brought out what looked like a napkin and said I should follow him. I was starting to get bothered as he seemed calm all of a sudden.
There was a bowl filled with water in one side of the room, he dipped the napkin and got it wet. Taking it up to clean off the makeup on my face.
He did that for a while, which scared me that something was wrong somewhere.
"I am doing this because I never asked for a concubine, I don't want to sleep with you," he said.
"Then why am I here?" I asked back, thankfully being a concubine was crossed out.
"You said you would do anything for me," Sebastian said, dropping the napkin in the water. "I need someone I can trust, someone by my side, I need you"
My eyes widened, this wasn't what I was expecting but it sounds about right.
"Why?" I asked the most important question right now.
Sebastian was silent, "I am lonely" he disclosed. "I have spoken to Caspian and everyone else, that you will reprise your role as a princess though you will be beside me at all times. Also, no one must know why I want you close to me, all they should know is that you are a princess who will be staying in my kingdom, not even Caspian" he explained.
This was something I could easily do but for how long?
"You want me as a friend if I am not mistaken," I said just for confirmation and he nodded. "But for how long? When will it end?"
He stares at me for a while before responding, "When I marry Princess Rebecca. The formalities are already in place and I have already had everything planned"
"So you are sure you can trust me, after everything that has just happened" I replied.
"I am not trusting you, all I want is your eyes, I believe someone wants to dethrone me, if I don't act fast, I might lose everything," he said looking utterly stressed at the thought.
There was no way he was bothered about someone trying to dethrone him when he was such a good person.
"What do I get in return?" I inquired, I do deserve to know.
He eyed me for a while before turning away and going over to his bedside.
"Why make such demands when you know you are at my mercy, you shall gain your freedom and no one shall bother you does that sound clear," he said.
I mocked him in my mind, mimicking all that he had said, bursting out laughing.
"What is funny? Have I become a joker or has everything that I just said sounded funny to you" he was already furious, maybe I was wrong to have done that? "All I want is your skill set and I promise to reward you greatly if your job is done perfectly"
"What if I refuse?" I asked.
"Then your life will rot away in the dungeon," he said without mincing his words. "besides you can not say no because you, as everyone in the kingdom belongs to me"
The pride in the way he spoke made me only wonder why he doesn't know his behavior might have been attributed to the hatred he has received.
"I'll do it, but first you must promise me that my family is safe," I said to him, it was what bothers me the most and he promised to give me as I have requested.
Our conversation ended when he told me to leave and that I would be taken to my chambers.
I was expecting something big and extravagant as I was a princess I thought but he offered just a single room right beside his chambers, he was clear about having me at his side at all times.
What baffles me still is why he thinks he could trust a crook like me, I don't even like him as King.
Nevertheless, for the first week, I stayed in the palace, I experienced a lot of boredom, I missed my freedom, and by now we would have gotten a new stash of loot.
As much as I missed being the person I was, I had also adjusted to the person I was chosen to become.
As I explored more of the exquisite palace that I haven't had access to, I found my way into the throne room.
Caspian, Commander Silas, and Commander Lucas, all stood before the king as the royal advisor read out the decree from the scroll.
