CHAPTER FORTY-SIX :
After Alex had, gingerly, unlocked the door, it was Adrian who led the way. The officers spread out along the dimly-lit corridor, with at least two outside each door. Alex indicated the room in which the young children were, presumably, sleeping. There would be no need for their room to be invaded, but Alex hoped his memory was correct.
At a signal from Adrian, each door was kicked in and flares, together with smoke bombs detonated. The officers rushed into each room, shouting and trying to intimidate the occupants into rapid submission. Not surprisingly, it was not going to be that simple.
Several of the men had weapons at their bedside and fired at the intruders, probably as an instinctive reaction.
