Lady Thalia's Point Of View
''What are you doing, Adelaide? Thalia?''
Mother asked as she descended the stairs.
''Well, this woman embarrassed our family at the ball. All of the square was there, Mama!'' Adelaide said.
''Oh! Are you that disappointed that the Queen Mother took a liking to me instead of you?! Pathetic of you Adelaide.'' I boldly said.
Mama was shock by my words.
''The Queen Mother may took a liking on you, Thalia but your sister Adelaide has the beauty you could not have.''
I must admit mother's words pained me.
Though that fact hurts me, I must admit my sister is more beautiful than me. Adelaide is often described as a pretty girl, and she has a resemblance that is almost doll-like. She is thin, with a medium-height, and fair skin. She has large brown eyes and long thick eyelashes. Her hair is blonde like momma.
She inherited my mother's beauty while I get my father's eye color.
What's the difference? The color of our eyes and hair, that's all.
Well, 'Thirty Marks of a Fine Woman' declared that the ideal lady was slim and blonde, with broad buttocks, small breasts, a small nose, and red lips on which Adelaide have.
I do not have a broad buttock but I have big breast which is quite heavy for me.
''Adelaide doesn't have a chance to be with the king!'' I argued to them.
''Oh yeah she will!'' Mother said to me and hugged Adelaide.
''Oh no she won't!'' I said back to her.
The scenery of the two hugging each other made me look like a witch, a very evil witch.
My tears are about to drop when mother said something painful.
''Compared to you, your sister has it all.'' she said. Papa did not even filtered his wife's mouth.
''Why did you conceived me in the first place when clearly all you need is Adelaide?!'' I asked her.
Adelaide then started to cry.
''Oh, don't you dare fake your tears, Adelaide. Pathetic you.'' I said.
''I didn't want you in the first place.''
The words dropped on me like a bomb.
''Well, unlucky you.''
I ran to my room, shutting the door loudly.
''THALIA!!!''I heard Papa shout from the halls.
''Oh, don't you dare to shut the door while your mother is speaking.''
I opened the door to him.
''Don't you dare try to raise children if all you wanted was one. And if you don't like me slamming the door on your wife, then make her shut her mouth.''
Then I slammed the door to his face.
''Good grace, I hate this family.''
The war on their bias attitude towards Adelaide and me, fighting for myself, has become violent tonight.
I wish Hope did not hear us.
The anger in me made me awake the whole evening when I hear a knock.
''It must be mama apologizing.'' I tried to say, thinking that mama's words hours ago was not true.
I opened the door and Hope greeted me.
''I heard mama and papa shouting at you.''
''Sorry. I had wished that you didn't hear that.''
''Well, their negative attitude is strayed at us, leaving all their positivity to Adelaide. Although, it's not hard for me as I am not a true Colleymore.''
''I do not want you to experience the childhood I had. Want us to share the bed?'' I asked Hope.
''Yeah. I 'hoped' for that.''
''That's a good joke, Hope.'' I said as I tuck her to bed.
''Yeah, I bet it was.''
''Please do not be scared of your thoughts in this house, Hope. You are my sister now.''
''I know. Adelaide is mean to me when we are at home, but she acts like an angel outside.''
''I know that, too.''
Hope went sleep first, then I got thirsty so I walked my way through the kitchen.
I was going back to my room when I heard giggles from Adelaide's room.
''Oh, just how many moans and giggles shall I hear in the darkness?'' I whispered to myself.
I took a peek and the view of what I saw shook me to my core.
I hurriedly ran back to my room.
''I couldn't believe it.''
The shook of what I saw in Adelaide's room brought me to sleep.
The night went by and the maids woke me with a new poet Sir Geunee released.
''When was this published?'' I asked.
''An hour ago, madam. I bought as soon as I saw Sir Geunee's name on it.''
The maid smiled to me.
''What did he wrote, Thalia?'' Hope asked.
''Let's read it shall we?'' Hope giggled as she sat on my lap.
''How shall I compare thee,
thy beauty is luxury,
is an angel out of duty
or thy god has forsaken thee
thy eyes is like sapphire
thy lips is fountain of smile
thy face is to be admire
like treasure, it is every man's desire.
bestowed with a unique beauty
blessed by the supreme divinity
can you be my Aphrodite?
for loving you is my duty.
thy beauty is paradise,
your existence is my life,
how I wish you to be mine,
but chasing air shall be a worth while.''
I read the newest poem of Geunee. My mind went to Eugene the poet, last night. I do not remember seeing him again last night as I entertain the Queen Mother of my ideas.
I wonder if Eugene, the poet, really knows about Sir Geunee.
The new poem seems to be love at first sight. A poem for admiration.
I then stared at the sky, wondering who in the f*****g world is Eugene.
''So early in the morning and the three of you is reading that stupid paper of sir Geunee?'' Mother barged into my room.
''Momma!!!'' I shouted.
She walked to me and squeezed my cheeks.
''Aren't you getting cheeky, huh, Thalia?'' she asked.
Hope grabbed mother's hand away from me.
''Oh, the little abandoned girl. Do not fight me or I'll throw you in the streets.''
she said.
Why is mom like these? She's not like this days ago!
''We have a ball this evening. I would live if the two of you wouldn't attend. Your sister shall be the limelight tonight.''
''I don't even care. I'll be happy if she marries fast.''
''She will marry the king, Thalia. To you, I don't even care who you will marry.''
''As if I even wanted your 'care' mother.''
Momma left my room.
''What happened to the Duchess?'' the maid asked. ''She was not like this ages ago.''
''Looks like she's in her menopause.''
I took a hot bath with Hope, enjoying our life.
The breakfast yesterday was calm but now the anger of both my parents towards me can be felt.
''What? The two of you woke up in the wrong side of the bed?'' I asked.
''I have no time to listen to your jokes, Thalia.''
''Oh, I am very sorry. But I am not joking, I am salting your anger.'' I simply said and cut the steak.
''I want to see the Grand Duke.'' Adelaide requested.
''Well, for the princess, I'll gladly oblige to your request.'' Papa said.
Hope and I just look to each other.
''I remember. In my childhood, the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess were very fond of me. I spent more time with them than you two, my parents. And Adelaide is not a princess. She's a daughter of a mere duke so she is called Lady. Are you that old Papa as to forget the basics of nobility?'' I asked to him, looking straightly to his eyes.
''Thalia, that is enough.'' Mama said.
''Oh, I am not done, Your Grace. I have not roasted you and Adelaide this morning.''
''Thalia, stop.'' Adelaide said.
''Why? Scared of my sacred words?'' I asked.
Hope laughed.
''You three looked like idiots.'' Hope said which made me smirk.
I saw the maids stopping their giggles.
''Is it fun, Thalia?'' Father asked.
''It sure is. You are a man which this society looked upon but you failed four times of your entrance exam to Harvard medical school that made you pursue business. How dull are you?''
''Thalia, enough.''
''Oh mother. I think the Grand Duchess said to me years ago that you couldn't paint so they hire someone to 'your paintings'. What a disgrace for a woman with high standards in arts when she herself couldn't paint.''
''Where did you hear that? You shall not speak of it in public.''
Adelaide and Papa were shook by the fact.
''So it's true?'' I asked.
''W-What? I tho-thought...'' Mama was lost for words.
''Oh, I created those words mama. I didn't think it would be true. What a disgrace!''
I laughed my heart out.
''Now, it's Adelaide's turn.''
''You could not burn me, sister. I am flawless.''
''Flawless of someone who giggles in the middle of the night. What could the cause of those loving giggles, huh, Adelaide?''
My words turned her pale.
''Are you okay, Adelaide? Mama asked.
''I-I am fine, Mama.'' she said.
Mama immediately comforted her.
I stood up as I finish my steak, walked towards Adelaide then whispered.
''Flawless. What a joke? You are the most impure stone this season.''
