Growing Up

what is adulthood?

something children crave

like a pipe dream of independence and respect

you grow and become

you'll find you get even less

adults want to be care free children

but act derisive to anyone that does

if you could experience true freedom

what would you do with it?

who would you spend it with?

adulthood is holding your tongue

when your heart screams for justice

why?

because a single act of anger

is between you and your stability

some find self respect worth it

but those stories don't show the aftermath

adulthood is the mind of a provider

the mind few will ever understand

simply because they cling to adolescence

for dear life

being called every name in the book

because you chose function over comfort

once children talking of games and music

now adults who hate one another

over simple beliefs

sad to reflect on how much it really

hurts others

when in reality

no matter what you believe

you're just trying to live

Game of Hearts

girl meets boy

boy meets girl

they tear down their walls

as they see each other's worlds

their past lingers

but they work together

knowing love is work

to get to forever

times will be rough

life will not stop

just hold one another

when you feel lost

give and take

take and give

you'll both need that

for the lives you live

lean but not too much

on the one who's there

make no confusion

between codependency

and care

they're not all winners

but remember it all

the good and the bad

and how you took down your walls

fight for understanding

and not to win

because in the game of hearts

the anger is the sin
