Chapter Twelve
Nicky’s point of view
After I had agreed to start my training, It sounds strange, but dad seemed almost happier, I had to admit it, but it was like he was relieved, but it didn’t mean he was allowed to give up and let himself go. I told him as such. I told him he needed to hang on and fight what ever it was that was trying to take him from us.
I wasn’t ready to lose him yet, and Mum wasn’t ready to lose her husband.
We talked for what seemed like hours before it became obvious he needed to rest and I let him sleep and went back out to see my mum. When I walked in to the living room, Missy was gone, which I was glad to see. It would have just been so awkward other wise.
‘Hello dear, hows your dad?’ I sat down in the chair across from her and proceeded to give her the run down of every thing we had spoken about. Much like dad, She seemed relieved with my choice too. ‘We will have to let Borris know so he can prepare every thing as soon as possible’. I just nodded.
I didn’t know if I wanted to do it ‘’as soon as possible’’, but I wasn’t wanting to argue about it right now, so just let it go.
‘Mum, Can I talk to you about some thing?’ She put down her knitting and smiled at me, taking her glasses off. ‘I think I'm having girl trouble..’
‘You think?’
‘Well, I don’t know. There is a girl I like. I mean, she’s cute and stuff, but I don’t know if we have a future’.
‘Why do you think that?’ I rubbed the back of my head, nervously.
‘Well, I’m kind of seeing some one back in New York and-’
‘Nicholas! I didn’t raise you to be like that!’. She scolded me. That’s why I was nervous to talk to her about this. Respecting women was a big thing she always tried to drill in to my mind when I was growing up.
‘I know, I know. I’m just confused’. She signed and shook her head.
‘Well, Who is this girl you like, Is she from here?’ I nodded. ‘Who is she?’ She asked again. I laughed, uncomfortably.
‘Um, Missy, I mean, Mistletoe. She came over for a drink last night and I kind of put my foot in it, but she’s cute, I just don’t know if it's worth even considering. I know what Borris is like for the old traditions’. By old traditions, I mean, He would be a complete and utter ass hole about a Claus being with an Elf.
‘Well, Borris is very set in his ways, Nicky, I think that’s well known’. I nodded, understanding. ‘However, saying that, If you like Mistletoe, What’s the harm in asking her to accompany you one evening when you go out’.
‘You can say the word ‘’date’’ mum’. She laughed and put her glasses back on. ‘You really think I should?’
‘If you like her Nicky, Why not?’ Good point. ‘Though, If you are seeing someone back home, Just be careful, please. Mistletoe is a lovely girl, I don’t want to see her hurt’.
‘I wouldn’t want to hurt her mum’. She grinned and picked her knitting back up, it looked like she was making some sort of scarf.
Any way, If I wanted to ask Missy on a date, I’d have to apologize to the way I spoke to her last night first… If she will even speak to me that is...
