The Lost Mate

Chapter 18: Hanging On To Life

-Iris's Point Of View-

So much has happened in less than 24 hours. My mom got to my pack territory safetly, she had a pup, I am going into labor then had my pup Sin and now hearing about my mate clinging to life how much more is going to happen. When my sister Venus told me that her and Mercury are able to give blood to help me that made me a little better the fact that my sisters are helping out my mate and being here for me and my pup. I'm glad to hear that their mates are doing better but it upsets me that they are doing better than Soul. I mean no one has told me what really is going on with him which is kind of pissing me off. I mean I know I just had a pup but I have the right to know what is going on with my mate. 

I finished feeding Sin, it's weird having a pup suck on you boob at first. The nurses are helping me learn how to burp him properly and hold him. Right now he is asleep in a little crib next to my bed. After Venus left Mercury came in to see me. She looks like she has been thinking a lot. How can I tell well she has this certain look on face her face where she is distracted around others, she will even blank out on people when she is in deep conversation. Her face her eyes were a little light on color probably from giving so much blood but they kept on the ground, her smile was soft but not all there, something had happened that is having her think. 

"Hey Mercury, how are you feeling?" I waited for her to reply, she held my hand but kept her eyes on the ground, she was deep in thought. I squeezed her hand shaking it a little to get her attention. For the firs time she blinked and looked at me her eyes getting a little color back. She smiles big seeing me and looks over seeing Sin. She would give me a light hug for a few minutes and then go to say hi to Sin who was asleep and she made sure not to wake him up. My sister Mercury is always the worry type. She worries about things too much and with what had happened to her in less than a year I wouldn't blame her for having high censor worry wort all over her. 

She would walk over to me going back into her thoughts again I squeeze and shaking her hand again to get her attention. This was worrying me. She doesn't go blank this bad before. Getting her to look into my eyes I can tell something is bothering her badly and I need to help talk her through it. I was always the one she would talk to. When I would sleep out in the stables she would bring extra pillows and blankets and sit with me all night talking to me. We did this for so many years until Jones found out and had a males come in to keep her busy. Every once in a while she would sneak out of her room to come see and talk to me. Until she found her mate Zack. With all the males coming and going see if they were her mate, she had grown tired of it until one day Zack had appear to ask her on a date called by Jones and she so tired of it she barked at him in her human form. Now to bark like an actual bark as in a dog bark is rare to do in your human form. It's something you just don't do. Zack was taken back and apologized but then he came back the next day and approached her differently then she found out he was her mate.That night she came to me to say goodbye and is worried if she will ever see me again and I had promised her she will. 

Growing up like that has made us close. Now here she is being the same person I grew up with and it's funny because she is my older sister. "Hey Mercury look at me something is on your mind isn't it," she would look at me and smirk nodding. "Yeah, it's something Venus was talking to me about..." That was concerning Venus is tough on Mercury because she wants her to be strong since she is the second oldest so for something that Venus talked to Mercury about that worried her isn't rare but the way she is acting and the way she said it is something different. Holding both of her hands I made sure she looked into my eyes so she wouldn't go blank on me again. 

"What did Venus talk to you about?" Mercury was quiet I can tell she was thinking on what to tell me because her eyes would drift to the left to look at my ear. That is another thing I learned from her when she is thinking about what to say.  Moving my head to the side to keep eye contact with her she looks at me biting her lip. "Something about being strong.. That you and your mate have done so much for everyone. She mention that when we were in the dungeon before you came we didn't do anything, we just sat there wondering what time of day it is. Then when you came you took action. You helped get us out. If it wasn't for you we would probably be dead. And the fact what your mate has done. He sent out warriors and saved mother. He has done so much for us." Tears would start to form in her eyes my heart ached. "I didn't realized how useless I have been.. I know Venus was just pointing it out because we need to do more for our pack and you are a perfect example of being a good Luna. It just got to me that all this time I have been weak. I haven't been a good Luna, I haven't been a good mate. I even let my pup die. I could of stopped it but I just gave her up and let Jones  kill her," Mercury was in full tears, putting her face in her hands I grabbed her before she fell on the floor and pulled her into my bed holding her. I can't believe this has been eating up inside her. 

I cooed my sister petting her head and holding her close. The nurse came in to see what was going on and I motioned her to leave that everything is fine. Mercury would cry and cry as I comfort her. "Mercury I'm sorry that this has gotten to you this bad. You are a strong female and a wonderful Luna. Jones is an insane male he has his ways at getting what he wants. What happened to your pup isn't your fault. I'm pretty sure he did something that you couldn't control." I could feel her nod her head against my chest. "He killed her when we were in the dungeon. He had invited us for a dinner and did something to our drinks. When Zack and I woke up we saw our pup dead in front of us. We were chained up.. If only I didn't go.. If only I had Venus with me.. If I had waited for her like always maybe something different would happen." I sighed softly as she was steadying her breathing. "You didn't know Mercury and Venus didn't know either. I heard that he had both of you tied to a rope when you both got mates. Mother was telling me he has been planning this since you were both born. When I was born that was the cherry on top. What matters now is that you and Zack are safe and we will end Jones." Mercury sat up to look  at me her eyes red from crying. "Iris how can you be so strong after what he did to you all your life.." That was a good question. I smirk looking at her. "That is a question I ask myself everyday. What I tell myself is that I want better for myself that I won't let someone bring me down because I know I am better. It's hard to get that motivation but I have you and Venus to be there for me. You both when you visited kept me company." Wiping away a tear from her fast a soft smile appeared on her lips. Then a doctor walked into the room. "Luna I believe you have been waiting for news about our Alpha?" I looked at the doctor a little pissed off Mercury got off the bed and left the room. "I have been waiting hours to hear what is going on with my mate." I sat up more in my bed making sure to keep my voice down my wolf growling wanting to know as well. The doctor took a deep breath. "Our Alpha has been bitten by a rabid wolf, he has a virus right now that we are trying to contain from spreading. Your sisters are giving blood for us to do the procedure where we clean out his blood system with new clean blood to get rid of this virus. He has other serious wounds but those can not heal without taking care of this virus first. We have waited to tell you since you just had a pup and needed time to heal. We are working our hardest keeping him in the surgery room with our best surgeons. He is clinging to life Luna we don't know how. It could because he is wanting to live for something or someone." My heart broke my wolf whimpered silently. Tears rolled down my cheeks and I gasped. Soul is in such a horrible condition and they just now tell me. I growled in frustration waking up Sin. How could this had happened. "I demand answers who was with him when this happened," the doctor shifted uncomfortably from my growling. "Zack and Bryan where with him when they came through the gate they are not in the position to have visitors right now Luna they are still in critical condition." I growled slowly getting out of bed to get to Sin who is crying snapping at a nurse to stay away. I was still in a hospital gown and I hated it I wanted to be in my normal clothes. "I don't care if they are awake I demand to speak to them." The doctor straighten up, "Luna I am sorry but I can't allow that." I stared at him growling. "You will let me see them if they are awake I demand it as your Luna to allow me to see them." The doctor was speechless I never used my power against others to get what I want but I need information my mate is dieing and some how he is still clinging to life. I need to do my part and find answers. "Mother get my some clothes please." My mother was in the door way watching as I told her to get me some clothes she nod and left I sat back in bed holding Sin comforting him not looking at the doctor. "Doctor go see if they are awake and see what condition Tyler and James are in I want to visit them to." "Yes Luna," then he left the room as my sisters poked their heads in. "If you need us let us know we will be in the room across giving blood for Soul." I glanced at them, "thank you guys I will let you know what I hear from Zack and Bryan." I could tell with the way they are staring at me they are not happy that I am going to see their mates, but they don't fight me because I am the Luna of this pack and this territory and they are guests. I have the right to see the two to get answers about my mate.

A few moments go by I go to feed Sin as it was late at night things seem to have calm down or that was probably only in the area of the hospital I am at. The doctor came in to tell that Bryan was awake but Zack was asleep and that he needs his rest. I wasn't going to argue about waking up Zack since I agree he does needs his rest. My mother came and brought me some clothes. I slipped on a hoodie and sweatpants as I went to go see my sisters across the hall. They were asleep while getting blood drawn a nurse for each of them was watching the machines carefully to make sure while they rest they were doing good on giving blood. More machines were hooked up to them since they are asleep machines that were giving them floids. Following a nurse to the other side of the hospital I left Sin with my mother since I don't think it will be a good idea to be around a bunch of wounded with a new born pup. I saw that every room was filled and rushed of nurses and wounded wolves we walked to another hallway were things were still busy but not as bad. I went into Bryan's room to see him hooked up to many machines. He was all white with bandages as a trash can is full of bloody ones. Bryan looks over at me and I was in horror he was all scratched and scared up. He smiled weakly at me and went to move but groaned in pain. I step up to the bed. "Don't move Bryan I just came to ask you some questions about what happened to Soul and then I will leave you." Bryan sided and against himself I helped fluff his pillow and got him some water even though he had three machines in him to help keep liquids in him it doesn't help when you have a dry throat though. He took a deep breathe. 

"Damien had attacked Soul when we were leaving the mansion. I believe Damien has turned into a rabid wolf." My eyes widen with shock and my wolf growls in anger.
