The call time for the athletes was 5 AM in the morning. The time of our flight to Davao was 9 AM and athletes are expected to be in the hotel before noon. The opening ceremony starts at 2 in the afternoon. Almost all teams are complete except for polo team who arrived at the school at almost 6. My eyes searched for only one man, but I was only disappointed when I didn't see Dwight among them. The representative from Sports Department cannot even gave a comment.
Two buses were provided for the athletes in going to the airport. I can't sit with Emerald this time because she has to be with her team. When we arrived at the airport, the coaches took the lead in guiding us. Good thing there had no problem. We landed in Davao past 11 AM. After checking in to our hotel, we were instructed to go down to the seafood restaurant by lunch time.
Everyone was busy, and I couldn't even see Emerald. I was already inside the lift when my eyes caught someone. A smile formed in my lips when I saw Dwight sitting pretty in the lobby of the hotel. He was holding an iPad that is almost covering his face. He's wearing a light blue squared-off collar formal polo. Nobody from Stallion recognized him. So he came here by himself.
Before the doors of the lift closed, I saw him looked at my way. I hope he saw me smiled at him. I hurried to fix my things, and I don't mind if my roommates find that weird.
"Going somewhere?" Andrea asked when I opened the door. She came out from the bathroom and there's only a towel covering her body.
"Yeah. I'll just talk to someone in the lobby. I'll see you later in the lunch." I winked at her.
When I went down, Dwight was still sitting in the sofa with his legs crossed. Now, Paolo, Elliot and Riley are with him. The waiting area of the lobby is wide, but with them occupying it, the place seemed crowded.
Dwight seemed busy reading something. Oliver wasn't here. Maybe he has an important thing to do in the school. I slowed down my pace when I'm almost close to them. Gladly, he saw me. Dwight stood and gave me a meaningful look before he startd walking to the exit.
"Where are you going?" Riley shouted.
"I'll get some air!" He lied.
When I walked pass to his friends, I pretended to be busy with my phone. They didn't seem to notice me because they are discussing about business. When I finally went out, I took a deep sigh. I searched for Dwight who was standing not far from the glass door.
"How many days will you stay here? You're not officially pulled out, are you?" He has no sport to play.
"One week. Do you want to have lunch outside the hotel? I don't like their food here." So it's not his first time here.
"Maybe next time. Coach will be strict in attendance because we can't be late for the opening ceremony later. Did you come to support the polo team?" He nodded and wore that annoying smirk.
"And also to watch over you. Did I have to repeat myself? What's your room number?" We started walking going to the other side of the hotel.
"2004. You?" I asked. My eyes went down to the iPad he's carrying in his left hand.
"I'm in room 52000. Is that what you're going to wear to attend the opening later?" So he's staying at the presidential suite. He scanned me from head to toe. I'm wearing a black long sleeve cropped top and denim mini skirt. I broguht my favorite mini bag.
"Yup. Will you be there too? I thought you'd be busy as the president of SC, but I guess you have a lot of time, Dwight."
He stopped from walking to face me.
"Are you allowed to wear crop top and mini skirt? The dress code abiding the school rules are still strictly enforced now." I rolled my eyes. So he's speaking as the SC president now.
"Can't I wear what I want, Dwight? Starting tomorrow, I will just have to be in swimsuit. This is the only time I can flaunt my sense of fashion." His forehead furrowed.
"That's only for today. The rule won't be lifted for the next days, Yasmin. I hate that you're showing off too much skin all the time." My cheeks felt so hot. When did I wear revealing clothes in school? I don't want to dig more in that topic, so I just asked him to tour me around the hotel.
He's been there couple of times, so he knew every corner of the hotel. There was a pool on the other side. It was also near the main road and other resorts. He joined us in the lunch, but all he did was greet the coaches, executives and administrators who came with us. He really did not like the food. In the middle of our lunch, I received a message from him and I can't stop smiling.
"You like the attention you're getting from all the boys? Change your blouse at least." It took me five minutes to think of a good reply.
"Why? I like my Versace." I glanced at the table where he's sitting with his friends and I saw him looking straight at me.
"I'm begging please change. I'm not comfortable with how other boys look at you." I melt. I know I'm not obliged to do what he wants, but I felt weak with the word he used. He's begging.
I made it part of my plan to change my top, but the schedule just wouldn't let me. Coach invited me to sit with the executives to discuss about the performance of our team. We had coffee by the pool with other coaches and the aces of their teams. Dwight was not around that time.
After that talk, we already headed to the event center where the opening ceremony will be held. There are already a lot of people inside. We didn't have a hard time finding seats because there's a space reserved for our school.
I sat with Emerald in the front bleachers. We promise to take pictures and videos to show to Ash. The polo team sat in the right side of the space reserved for us. As expected, Dwight and his friends were with them. They were catching attention from the other universities and the media who's covering the event. I have to say that polo team is the front line pride and honor of Stallion. In return, they receive all the special treatment that a student can have.
The noise, the anticipation, the pressure, I'll miss it all. One glance at Dwight's way, and I saw him discussing something funny with the other guys. He will be the biggest blessing I won't ever forget in this last playing year. He can just sit there, laugh and be so amazing. I am deep in love with that guy.
When the event started, all my focus is with the performances and guest athletes who have represented the country for international competitions. I smiled with the thought that 3 years from now, I'm surely in the office attending meetings or doing corporate works unlike these athletes who live their dreams. But I will be fine because I love my parents so much that my biggest dreams are for them.
"Riley and Dwight can't stop staring at you, Yas." Right after Emerald told me that, I looked at their way. Dwight's forehead was furrowed as if he was aggravated. I pouted. I got my phone from my sling bag to text him.
"What's wrong?" I still cringe with this impossible moment. This ain't true, right? I can't be texting the mighty Dwight Jace right now.
I was holding my phone during the whole event waiting for his reply, but he didn't give me any. We had dinner in the event center and I felt a little suffocated with the bunch of people I met. I can't remember all of their names, but few are following me on social media.
"Too bad no alcohol was served." I gave Emerald a weird look.
"Do you think this is some sort of an after party? You have a game early tomorrow! You should rest well okay? And please give me updates from time to time. I will do my best to catch your games." She rested her head on my shoulder and took a picture of us.
"I got here the sweetest friend. I'll sabotage your game too tomorrow by watching you and cheering loudly! Expect me there!"
"Anyway, have you seen the polo team? Why are they always late?" I asked.
"They had dinner in a different restaurant. Why did you ask?" I shook my head. I immediately checked my phone to see if Dwight sent a message. There's none. Notifications from social media and my parents were all I saw.
We already headed back to the hotel, and I haven't heard anything from Dwight. Maybe he's drunk somewhere having fun with girls of his standard. I had a hard time sleeping thinking about those silly things. Maybe he's really not serious about me. That stings.
Aggressive vibration of my phone woke me up. I slept with it on my hand. I checked who's calling, and I almost jumped out of bed when I saw his name.
"Yes, Dwight?" My voice was so soft and careful not wake up my roommates.
"Did you come back to the hotel safe?" His calm voice was to die for.
"Yes. What about you? Did you have a good time with your friends?" I think he came to Davao to enjoy and not to look after me. I'm just his past time.
"I didn't come with them in dinner. I had a conference call my staffs in Cebu and had to rush back to hotel. What about you? Did you have fun being the admired by all those men a while ago? You're too... beautiful in what you were wearing." There was pain in the way he delivered it.
"What's wrong with what I was wearing? I am used to attention, Dwight. If you think I'll get overwhelmed with something like that, you're wrong." I closed my eyes again. Goodness, I can just stay up all night talking about nonsense like this with him.
"Surely you are. I heard you're called the goddess of Stallion. Wow. I have never heard of that title, but now I'm bothered. Anyway, I'm outside your room." My jaw dropped. I immediately got up, fixed my hair and used the light of my phone to search for my slippers. I rushed to go out and see him.
He's wearing that serious face when I came out. I ended the call and carefully shut the door after making sure that I had my card in the pocket of my bathrobe. Dwight put his phone down and gave me a serious look.
"I knew I had a lot of competitors if I ever pursue you, but I never expected they would be this much. I wanted to sit with you a while ago and hold you to show them you are mine." My heart could not contain everything. I bite my lower lip and walked the remaining distance between us.
"But you didn't even reply to me when I asked what's wrong."
"Because I'm mad. I begged you to change your clothes, but you didn't." He pulled me in the waist and gave me a tight hug. I felt like crying. I really love him, his smell and his arrogance.
"But I guess it wasn't your fault, Yasmin. You didn't do anything wrong aside from being too beautiful. I know you won't cheat on me. No matter how many men express their desire for you, you'll still be my girl." I nodded. I pushed him a little so I can look at him in the eyes.
"I chased you first if you can't remember, Dwight. I was so down for you that even if you find another guy for me, I won't look at them. I don't know what spell you casted on me that I only see you. I'll wear whatever the hell I want with the assurance that I'm only yours." His arm around my waist pulled me closer. A smile finally showed in his lips.
"I'll kill you if you break that promise." He said so softly that it's hard to believe.
"Can you really do that?" I have never seen myself flirting like this.
"No. Sorry I can't. I'd rather kill the guy you'll replace me with. That will be a piece of cake."
We stayed in the hall until his alarm clock went off.
"Don't set your alarm too early. Wake up at around 10 AM. If you don't make it to your call time, I will just drive you to the sports center. Okay? Get enough sleep." He kissed me in the forehead when he swiped the card to open my room.
"Okay. You too. Good night." I answered.
He pulled me again and gave me a peck in the lips. I smiled cause he's obviously restraining himself.
"Good night, Yasmin. Go in before I decide to keep you in my room." I laughed.
"You think I'm that easy? You're making me laugh. Good night." I kissed him in the cheeks before I shut the door. It was like a fantasy came true. I slept smiling that night.
