Chapter Eleven

Fridays are always peaceful in the morning and they get busier as the day goes on, maybe because it was the beginning of the weekend. I woke up smiling because I knew Leah was coming back today, I got up from bed and headed downstairs after taking a bath. My Mom and brother were both downstairs, watching Tv. That’s true, Mom doesn’t go to work on Fridays. We always play a game after breakfast, we have a raffle draw to decide what the game will be. I greeted both of them as I descended the stairs, “Morning baby, breakfast is ready. We’ve been waiting for you” She said in a cheerful tone. “I just can’t wait to beat you at whatever game we pick today, I mean I’m fine with you not eating before the game though, maybe even not after” He snickered as we entered the kitchen. “That’s funny because as I remember, I always win. Every time, so wipe that look off your face and prepare to lose. I won’t deny you breakfast because I want you to be at your best, no excuses today” I jeered back. He pouted his mouth and I burst out laughing; “You have no idea what you like. Eat now, you’ll need it for when I win” My Mom laughed, she didn’t bother getting fully involved in the games with you because she knows how it always ends, with me and my brother turning it into a battle and me winning. “I’m sure I have won at least once” His voice sounded so tiny, like a child’s. “None, my boy. Not once, not ever. Been winning since the first game” I teased him as I finished my breakfast. The breakfast was also a battle, my Mom used to try to caution us, but over time she would just shake her head and tell us to reduce the pace. “At least wait till we decide the games before you both get overconfident. Who knows, I might win this time” She laughed as she arranged the draw. We looked at each other and burst out laughing, “That’s not possible. You get tired and leave us anyway” We shouted at the same time and laughed. “Yeah Yeah, I don’t have as much energy as you both do” She arranged the bowl and picked one, She opened it and pointed it at us. “SNAKES AND LADDERS!!” We shouted at the same time.
