Chapter Thirty-One

448 Words
Carrie, Leah and my Mom went straight in as I parked the car. I covered the car and went in too. I went to the kitchen to get a bottle of water for my Mom. After everything that happened today, I’m sure she needs it. “Thank you” She smiled at the three of us. I hate to be the one to do this, but someone has to, “Can you tell us what exactly happened and how it happened?” I asked her as gently as I could. I listened to every word she said. I hugged her after and turned to go upstairs. It was time to show them what I had been keeping to myself for years. I entered my room, still fighting myself about the decision I was about to make. “It’s the right time to tell them, the perfect time even”, I muttered to myself as I took out the box from behind my shoe rack. I walked back downstairs still thinking, “I need to show you guys something”. I entered the living room with the box in my hands. “What do you have in your hands?” Carrie asked as she pointed to the box. “I received it a month after Dad died” I answered. “Wait, What? And you didn’t tell me or your sister” Mom flared up and Carrie tried calming her. “It’s not like I did not want to, I just didn’t want you guys to go through another heartbreak, I know how hard it was when Dad passed.” I explained and they both calmed down. I finally got it off my chest after those years. I have never fully trusted my Uncle, ever since I’ve been old enough to know what trust is. I saw how he always looked at my Dad. I told my Dad about it but he told me it was nothing. He always loved and trusted his family more than he was supposed to. That was his only mistake. “Inside the box, there was a note and a key. In the note he told me Perry was going to come after him, and if he did I should always take care of you guys”. Their eyes lit up, “Why did he think Perry was after him” my Mom asked. “And why didn’t he tell me about it?” She added. “I have no idea, what I know is something happened between them. To be honest, I’ve always had the feeling Uncle Perry knew something about Dad’s death”. I knew they’d be worried.
