BARRY’S POV
All my life, I’ve always tried to be the best everything for my family. The best son and the best big brother. That responsibility doubled when my Dad passed. I had to step up and be the man of the house and Lord knows I did, I love being there for my little sister and my Mom. The death of Uncle Perry came as a bit of a shock, but I wasn’t sad one bit. He got what he deserved and I won’t lose any sleep over him. I always felt he had a hand in what happened to my Dad, but I would never tell my Mom and Carrie this because I was not sure and It would only make them more furious and want to find out more. Things are getting better now, I met a beautiful and sweet girl, She works at Mama Joe’s restaurant.
I woke up at exactly 8:00 AM, as I always do. I didn’t get up immediately today though, I was thinking about what happened the night before. Why would they want us to attend when they know we did not like each other? I sighed as I rolled out of bed, no use thinking about it for now. I walked down the stairs to the kitchen and saw my Mom packing her work flask and lunch, breakfast was already on the table. “Morning Mom, did you sleep well?” I smiled as I grabbed a chair to sit down. “Morning baby, I did sleep very well thank you” She loved calling me her baby. I used to protest it and she would always say we’d always be her babies, no matter how old we get. I just let it go after that and enjoyed it. I looked around, Carrie was definitely still sleeping. Not a surprise at all, with all the wine she drank last night. “Carrie is still in bed?” I asked as I collected my plate of pancakes and syrup from her, I mouthed thank you to her before she responded. “Yep, I checked on her like an hour ago. She is knocked out, after all the wine I’m barely surprised. “I know right, that hangover is going to be wicked when she gets up” I laughed as I got up to pour myself a cup of orange juice. I looked at her work bag and by the way, it was packed and how stuffed it looked, I knew she was going to be back late today. “You’ll be back late right?” I pointed to the heavy bag on the table. She nodded her head “Yeah, I got a call this morning. There was an emergency and they’re short staffed so I have to come in early today. You and your sister will be okay, right? Do you need anything?” She asked as she finished her breakfast and got up from the table. “Yeah, we’ll be fine. I’m good, take care of yourself and drive safe” I hugged her and waved as she pulled out of the driveway.
