Chapter 3

Sophie's POV: I was completely broken today. My hope of living a good life was shattered to pieces. Do you know why? I am Sophie Reed, a 26-year-old struggling and a complete failure as an adult. I have only got rejections from the companies I applied to work for as an intern. I was solely dependent on my brother for survival. I thought life would go easy on me someday. But I was wrong, it was totally wrecked today. I lost my brother Dean, who was my only family member, after we lost my mom and dad in a dreadful car accident on a cursed night. My brother was a very talented forest ranger in the Thornhill forest.. But my life turned upside down with the devastating news that I got today. He was killed by a wild animal last night. Even his body was so brutally ravaged that his colleagues couldn't bring his body back. Helplessly, they had to cremate him there. With him, my only reason for living in this harsh world was snatched away from me. When I finally decided to end this pitiful life, my fate mocked my miseries again by sending someone to save me. Why now? Why did he have to save me today? At least I could have met my family if I had died today! As I was sobbing hard, unknowingly I felt someone was gazing at me. I looked around me and there was no one. Is someone secretly watching me? ............. Nathan quietly stood beside her while staring with an intensified gesture. He had been using the superpower of invisibility but Sophie was constantly looking around her to find him. "How could she feel my perception when I am already using my power? Till now, no human could ever perceive anything whenever I stood beside them secretively using my powers. 'Why is she so different?' He thought silently. Suddenly, Sophie's stomach growled loudly! Both Sophie and Nathan were shocked by the sudden noise! She gently put her hand on her belly and tenderly caressed it with a sad expression on her face. "I didn't have anything from last night, my whole appetite diminished. I thought maybe death would be the best solution for me to avoid all other circumstances, but... Now I am so hungry." She murmured in a low voice with a blank gaze in her eyes. "Gosh!" Nathan sighed in her response. "First of all, I saved her life and I was blamed. Now if I bring her food, what if she blames me again?" He murmured quietly with an agitated gaze towards her. She was seated helplessly at the bus-stop. Soon, Nathan realized she had no money with her at that time. "Uggghhh, why is this bothering me so much? Am I her guardian angel or what? Why am I watching over her silently though? Why is she troubling me so much?" Nathan was too conflicted between his thoughts while he grumbled angrily. In the meantime, a food-truck from a bakery was passing by them on the road. Sophie looked at the truck and her stomach growled again. She was indeed starving! Nathan sighed annoyingly and raised his right arm towards the food-truck. His eyes turned bright red again as he was using his magnetic super-power on her. Immediately, a big packet of bread was pulled over from the truck and it dropped instantly on Sophie's lap. She was startled to see the bread suddenly landing on her from that truck! She jolted up from the seat while holding the packet in her arm and looked around deliberately by rolling her eyes. "I...I knew it! There is definitely something mysterious going on here. Someone has definitely been watching over me! Who is this? Hey?" She spoke in a raised voice while looking all around. The situation was too mystical. Nathan smirked at her reaction. "Again, instead of being thankful, she is doubting my intentions! She is so weird..." He thought with a cryptic smile on his face. "Hey, who are you? Ar-Are you Dean? Is it you, brother? Are you helping me silently? I miss you... I miss..." She couldn't complete her words as she broke down in tears helplessly while holding the bread packet in her arms. She seemed so helpless and all alone. Nathan couldn't help anything further, except stand quietly and watching over her. ... It took her just 10 minutes to finish that huge packet of bread. She was indeed withholding her deliberate hunger though. Nathan unknowingly smiled at her as she gobbled up the food quite fast at the bus-stop. After, satiating herself, a small grin appeared on her sad face. "I don't know, whoever helped me, but thank you very much. The bread was delicious." She spoke with tenderness in her tone and a pleasant face. "Pfft! She is so childish! Who will tell? She is a complete adult! Gosh, I feel like I am looking after a small kid!" He chuckled mystically while murmuring in a mellow tone. Her thankfulness made him pleased. .... Soon after she finished her food, Sophie stood up from her seat and walked in the opposite direction. Probably, she was going back home at a slow pace. Nathan didn't follow her anymore as he stood still and watched her leaving slowly. But after she strolled a few steps, she turned behind with a curious gaze in her eyes. "Hey, if you are still watching over me, don't worry. I won't try to commit suicide again. You can go back and take care. Thank you for helping me, angel." She spoke politely while looking around with a poignant gaze in her eyes. Nathan stood all frigid while watching her drifting away from his sight. "Angel? Was it a compliment or an insult? But I am an Alpha werewolf, much stronger and ruthless than an angel. Don't be mistaken, I just helped as I felt a bit pity for your helplessness and your smell caught my attention. That's all. I won't care about you anymore." He uttered in an obscure voice while turning back and walking away towards his home. ... That's what he thought without even knowing, destiny had already begun its game!
