I jumped back “No no don’t touch me, you smell of fish.” I yelled at him.
“Come on Jess give me a hug.” Jager chuckled and came towards me.
“Get back. You smell.” I screamed.
Jager started chasing me around the table I started screaming and laughing finally he caught me. He gave me a big hug and kissed me.
“Now I smell like fish yuck. Go have a shower.” I shouted at him.
“Yes, my boy go have a shower, and clean up, that pretty boy hair needs cleaning.” Jim laughed.
Jager laughed back and went upstairs to have a shower.
“I’m going to head up to Lori’s to have a shower,” Bruce stated.
“Is that hussy coming for supper?” Ellie snapped.
“Ellie that’s enough. She is welcome to come.” Jim said.
“Yes, she’s coming,” Bruce called back to Mom and then left to go to Lori’s.
“Ellie you can’t push the boy away he got to learn in his own way and his own time. Bo is gone to his mother's to shower. Mikey and Rick are gone to their houses to shower and then will be down.” Jim mentioned.
“Mikey and Rick bringing anyone?” Ellie asked Jim.
“No Mikey is a w***e, and Ricky to shy to talk to a girl. I called a couple of our friends to come after dinner around eight I told them to have a little party. I figure we had such a good haul today we don’t need to go out tomorrow.” Jim told us. “Yes, Jess Mikey is going to play guitar all night if you want,” Jim added.
Jager came down from upstairs after having his shower and told Dad the shower was all his. Dad went upstairs and we sat around the kitchen chatting and prepping for supper. Mom put all the meat out for Dad to barbeque. Dad got out for the shower, shaved and came back downstairs it was about 3:55 Pm. Mom started yelling at him to start the BBQ. Supper had to be on the table by five. Dad took the men to the garage to cook the BBQ, along with a Dozen beers. Next thing I knew the country tunes were blasting.
Mom yelled out to Dad “Let me know when you are fifteen minutes out so I can start the lobsters.”
The women were sitting around and Bruce showed up with Lori. I will give my mother credit she was civil to Lori almost nice; Jeanne and I would look at each other and chuckle. Next thing you know it was five o’clock and supper was on the table and we were all eating.
After dinner was over the boys went back down in the garage, and the girls cleaned up. Typical family stuff, unlike the Tracy’s and their crap. We cleaned up the dishes and then went down to the garage. See our garage wasn’t a garage it had a fridge, stove, heat, and barbeque it was where we had our get-togethers, it was always a happy place. After we finished we went to the garage.
“I got the guitar ready for you Jessie,” Mikey said. “Ya know we want to hear you sing,” Mikey added.
“Give it a little bit yet,” I answered him.
We sat around the boys were having a few beers, and Dad was feeding Jager beer, I mean Jager had drank before but Dad would never give someone underage beer but Jager was eighteen. I knew after that dad liked Jager, he respected him. I wonder what happened on the boat today. Something had to happen, but I wonder what? Dad and Jager had to have a heart-to-heart, Dad would never accept him so fast, but I had to let it go for now I would find out on the way back. Dad had the music blasting and then neighbours came from all sides. The boys had a few in telling their stories and women we doing the same, then Mikey pulled out the guitar again.
“Come on Jessie I’m not taking no for an answer.” Mikey started strumming the guitar, he started with Hotel California, then Sunday Morning coming down and of course a little of Me and Bobby McGee. That is my favourite song.
Jager looked stunned, of course, I had never sung in Boston ever. I always sang in Abbot Harbor it was a happy time and a happy place. Tonight I was happy, the happiest I have been since the day I left the Harbor.
“Baby I never knew you could sing?” Jager was surprised.
“There are still a lot of things you have to learn.” I grinned as I got out of my chair and sat on Jager's lap and kissed him.
“Mikey, Sis will you play and sing at the wedding? I know you are standing but you could still sing too.” Jeanne begged. “Please?”
“Yes I will, but what?” I asked.
“I can’t help falling in love with you,” Jeanne answered.
“Mikey, do you know how to play that?” I inquired.
“I can learn in a week,” Mikey replied.
After Jeanne stopped screaming we started up the guitar again, I stayed sitting on Jager's lap and sang. I figured I would give Jeanne and Bo their wedding gift before the wedding and there was no time like the present. When the guitar stopped I got up and went into the house to get the papers for the house. I came back downstairs and went into the garage.
“So Jeanne and Bo I want to give you guys your wedding present tonight,” I told everyone.
“Sis you paid for the wedding that was your present,” Jeanne stated.
“Well, I got you something else. I had to wait for the lawyer to get from Bangor this morning and well here it is.” I informed them.
“It’s a piece of paper,” Jeanne remarked.
“Really,” I said sarcastically. “I didn’t know that. Read the piece of paper.”
“It’s a deed to a house, the Weymouth house. You bought us the Weymouth house, oh my god she bought us the Weymouth house.” Jeanne started to scream she ran over and gave me a huge bear hug.
“You bought them a house,” Jim said I could see the disappointment on his face.
“It is not Tracy money, it is my money from Harper Mark profits, and I own the company. I would not take five cents from the Tracy’s.” I said as I looked at my Dad.
“I’m proud of you baby girl, you did something very nice for your sister,” Dad said as he hugged me.
We got back to partying and all of a sudden it was 2 AM, we were still singing and laughing and having a good time all of a sudden Rick passed out in his chair, then Mikey. Mom woke them up and got them to the couch and loveseat. Bruce and Lori got up and headed up to Lori’s house. Bo was passed out in his chair Jeanne was trying to wake him, she was screaming at him over and over. All we could do was laugh.
“What are you going to do after next week?” I laughed.
“If he doesn’t get up there might not be a next week.” Jeanne snapped back.
“Get him upstairs Bruce is not coming home tonight put him up there.” Dad chuckled under his breath. See Dad wasn’t old fashion when he was younger, but when it came to his girls no one was touching them until they were married.
Jeanne managed to get him to his feet and he put his arm around Jeanne and she was fuming. Bo looked at Jeanne “I don’t know why you are so mad I love you and you’re mad at me.”
“I’ll give you love in a minute when I knock you out,” Jeanne replied and the rest of us busted out laughing. “Knock it off” Jeanne added and took Bo upstairs.
I looked at Dad “Bet you are glad you have a five-bedroom house now. Well since I’m probably going to have to be the one to get up and cook breakfast since I will be the only one not hungover, I’m going to bed.”
I grabbed Jager by the hand and he looked at me “I’m going to help your father clean up the bottles. I will see you in the morning.” They stood up and kissed me. “I love you, Jess.”
“Goodnight Jager. Love you too Daddy.” I walked over kissed my dad on the cheek and went to bed.
As I was walking to bed I heard dad tell Jager “Crack open another beer.”
I met mom going back out to the garage. I kissed her on the cheek “I’m going to bed.”
“Me too, Jessie,” Mom said. “I’m going to bed Jim” Mom called out.
Mom and I went upstairs and went to bed. It almost scared me that Dad and Jager were still downstairs together, I prayed they were bonding; my Dad can be pretty intimidating. I lay down and I went to sleep. Next thing you know it was eight AM I could hear things moving downstairs.
I got up, got dressed and went downstairs. I figured the boys were awake so I went to start cooking breakfast. Mom came out of her room at the same time.
“Your father never came to bed,” Ellie stated.
“They must have passed out in their chairs.” I grinned
Mom and I walked downstairs and the boys were still passed out. We went out in the kitchen and Dad and Jager were sitting at the table with a beer and dad was trying to cook breakfast; my mother was ready to explode with the mess he had made. He had nothing cooked eggs and flour everywhere.
“Jim, what in the hell are you doing? Look at the mess you have.” Mom was irate.
“We’ll clean it up, sorry Mrs. Davis.” Jager stammered.
“Really will you? When? You are drunk as a skunk.” I was furious.
Jager looked at me “Baby.”
I cut him off “Don’t you baby me.” I was seething. “And really Dad you have been drinking since two yesterday. That is setting a great example; you two should be ashamed of yourselves.” I lectured.
“Now you listen here little girl I am your father and you don’t get to talk to me like that.” Dad slurred every word.
“When you start acting like an adult instead of a drunken teenager I will treat you like one.” I snapped back.
“Jim get upstairs and go to bed.” Ellie Scolded Dad. “We will discuss this later. You were keeping that young boy up drinking all night. He’s still a minor Jim, what’s wrong with you.”
I looked at Jager “You heard the woman go to bed.”
Jager got up stumbling, put his arm around me and said “I’m sorry Baby. Forgive me?”
“Go to bed we will discuss this later.” I sneered at him.
Dad and Jager stumbled up the stairs and I could hear Dad mumbling “Oh those Davis women, Boy I hope you know what you are getting yourself into.”
“I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m eighteen it’s legal in Maine.” Jager stammered.
