Chapter 1
“Check this out Laney!”
Zander arched back and launched a football down field.
“Yeah, impressive.” I said rolling my eyes.
Zander Williams was the football quarterback and team captain. He was also trying to get in my pants. I, Laney Prichard, was the head cheerleader and daughter of the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack. We went to a high School which was a combination of 2 allied packs, the other being the Dark Moon.
Zander was an Alpha. His dad was the leader of Dark Moon, which meant someday he would be in charge, which gave him quite the ego. Plus being Football captain and the most handsome and popular guy in school could make him seem very arrogant. Zander was nice, but he wasn’t what I was interested in anymore. He had been the boy I chased after as a kid. My Crush. But as we had gotten older, it was clear, he wasn’t who I was interested in. We were Seniors. I just wanted to graduate. I didn’t want to play around. I wanted to be mated and save myself for my mate before doing anything I’d regret.
I’d often sit in class, daydreaming about what my future would be like with my mate. Some of my friends were already mated. They would talk about how strong their love and bond were. I wanted that. But I hoped my mate would be handsome, strong, and kind. Maybe a Beta or a lead warrior. I knew my time was coming soon. My 18th birthday had just passed the day before. That’s the age werewolves are ready to shift into their wolves for the first time, find mates and be marked. I could not wait.
Zander was about to turn 18. He was having a party this weekend to celebrate. He ran off the field after practice, threw his arm around my shoulder and pulled my curvy body into his. “How about you join me in the shower.” He winked. I peeled his arm from my shoulders. “How about no…”
“C’mon, Laney. You’re killin me. After Friday, you’re gonna find out that we’re mates, then you won’t be able to resist me.” He said.
“In your dreams, Zander.” I laughed and rejoined the rest of my cheer squad. I shook my head. 14-year-old Laney would have loved this attention from Zander. But now I didn’t want to play games.
