“When did you get here?” He asks his close friend aka his dance partner since middle school.

“Just a while ago, I saw Hyerin all alone” Sehun leans closer towards Kai and whispers

“and guys were checking her out, why did you let Hyerin wear shorts?” Kai raises a brow before he checks her out and true enough she was wearing a pair of denim shorts with an over-sized shirt, the front's tucked in. The type of clothing that she fancies, something that’s simple and comfortable.

"Her brother dropped her off at my place, I didn't pick her up" Kai shook his head and took off his jacket before he passed it to her, who looks back at him with confusion.

“What’s wrong? You still have time before the competition starts” she stated with confusion written all over her face.

“Cover your legs, guys are staring,” he bluntly tells her then got up and left without another word. Sehun smirks and follows Kai from behind but not before making sure Hyerin covers her legs up, tapping her bun hair.

The female, even though she was confused, she follows and obeys what both guys asked her to do.

"Do you think they're together?"

"Nah, I heard from someone who has biology with her says that they're best friends since kindergarten"

"And isn't he currently dating that girl from the 1st class of our batch?"

"But he never lets any guy near her and he's not exactly Mr. Casanova too"

"He's a freak if that's what you want to say, he has a goddess with him yet he finds himself a plain Jane as a girlfriend"

"Mirae isn't exactly a plain Jane, but yeah compared to Choi over there, she's nothing"

"God, look at those legs, you'd think that maybe he's tapped her yet?"

"You mean while dating an older girl, he's sleeping with his own best friend?"

"I could see that happen to me if Choi was my best friend"

"Yeah, who could resist that"

"I don't think so, I bet she's a virgin"

"I don't bet, I know she's a virgin, she doesn't even have a boyfriend"

"How can you be so sure?"

"We've agreed that pretty boy over there won't let other guys near her right? so it's not hard to put two and two"

"What I'd do to get my hands on her"

"Maybe we should spike her drink at the dance tonight"

“Or we invite her over to one of our parties and then we take her” 

Sehun's hands were in tight fists as he hears these horny football players talk about Heyrin as she and her female friends decorate the gym for the fall dance. Kai who is there by her side, never leaving her as he made sure she could get the job done without getting hurt.

“Dude, wait up!” Sehun yells as Kai just kept on walking till he reaches the men’s room. As soon as he got in, Kai went towards the sink and splash cold running water at his face. Sehun stood by his side and only shook his head.

“You should come clean about your feelings to her. You’ll only keep hurting yourself from hiding it. I’m surprised you managed to hide it for this long” Sehun advises his friend as he felt sorry towards Kai.

“How!?” Kai yells, frustrated that he couldn’t do more than just advise her and do nothing more. As he always did since the day he realized her body was no longer a girl's body, rather a body of a mature woman.

He had wanted to confess to her many times but the mere thought of getting rejected by her scares him. Especially as he had witnessed many guys being rejected by her over the years of being her best friend.

“Tell me how to confess to your best friend without the fear of rejection! Tell me Sehun! Cause I’m dying to know” Kai felt his chest heavy at the thought of confessing.

He wants to confess but he doesn’t want Heyrin to be awkward if she doesn’t feel the same towards him. He’s not only afraid of rejection, but he’s also afraid she would stop being his friend if he admits how he truly feels towards her, but he knows he wants her and only her.

She’s the only girl that can fill the spot in his heart because she knows him best just like how he knows her best.

“I don’t know how to too, ok? But I’ll help if you tell me you want to do it, anything that I can help you with” Sehun puts a hand on his shoulder with a light squeeze and Kai just nods his head.

He’s kept his feelings hidden from her for 12years now and as a lot of time past, his feelings only grew stronger. He didn’t know how but they just did and he can’t seem to stop loving her. She’s almost like a drug to him, a drug that keeps him in the space between reality and fantasy.

“Thanks, dude, let’s go back, Hyerin’s all alone” he walks ahead and Sehun just follows him silently, knowing that Kai needs time to control his feelings as he always does whenever this happens.

“Ummm, Kai…,” Sehun said with a gruft voice as his eyes caught a sight that he’s sure Kai’s going to hate as he hates it too.

Kai looks at his friend weirdly before he looks at the direction that Sehun’s staring at. His eyes widen and his heartfelt burning with rage. Hyerin had a few guys surrounding her and it seems like they were asking her questions.

This is the issue about Hyerin; she’s always clueless when it comes to the male population. Sometimes she doesn’t even know that guys are drooling over her while some flirt with her and how girls envy her for the amount of attention she receives from guys alone.

But somehow, her being clueless about the topic is probably because she's never dated anyone for the past 27 years of her life. Why, he never knew because every time he bought the topic up, she'd always say it's because it's not the right time or she's uninterested.

“Is something wrong here?” he asks coldly towards the guys as he reaches Hyerin, he didn’t hesitate to wrap his hand around her waist because he knows Hyerin is used to it.

“Ah, Kai your back, these guys are gonna go before you, they were just asking me about you and Sehun” she smiles and as Kai had thought, those guys were checking her out rather than just asking.

There are 5 of them in total, all possibly younger than them and Kai saw how these boys were eyeing her up and down like she's some meal.

“Really? I’m Kai and this is my partner Sehun, we're both choreographers at Seoul's Dance School” Kai's voice came out as a gruft and he made no action of taking a hand out for a shake as he glares and one of them who made eye contact with him flinched.

"You can come by if you want, we always give one on one lessons to boys that have difficulties during class" Sehun replies with sarcasm as he shook hands with them, he purposely grips tightly onto their hands as he too felt annoyed.

Hyerin is his close friend that he cared so dearly for like an older brother. He would feel annoyed and angry as well if other guys try to hit on her.

“We’d… better get ready,” one of the guys said as he suddenly feels scared by Kai and Sehun’s death glares. They quickly made their way towards their resting area, not looking back. The two just shook their heads and Hyerin saw that.

“Are you two ok?” Hyerin put a hand on both of their foreheads to check their temperature.

“We’re fine Hyerin-ah” both of them answer her in unison. Sehun gets annoyed by this gesture but Kai, on the other hand, is simply happy whenever she’s worried about him.

“Well, if you say so,” she says and sits down. She takes out her phone and smiles when she receives a text from her brother who told her that she could just spend the rest of the day with them.

“Let’s just wait for our turn,” Sehun said boringly and sits down on his seat, watching the current contestant performing. Kai did the same but stares at Hyerin who was busy texting her older brother.

“Oppa said I can stay with you guys. He’s taking his fiancee out today, so he can’t pick me up. You don’t mind sending me home do you?” she asks Kai as she made her puppy eyes even though she already knows the answer.

“Do you even need to ask?” Sehun raises a brow at her and she laughs at his remark. Kai just smiles before humming a yes.

As Sehun pointed, she doesn’t have to ask, he’ll do it willingly if it’s for her. Her brother trusts him since they’ve been friends from kindergarten.

When it was their turn, Hyerin made sure she cheered for the two the loudest and she didn’t seem to care if people look and stare at her strangely or weirdly.

Another thing that Kai loves about her is she’s confident and won’t let people’s judgments take her down. When the competition was over, they manage to get 2nd place. Hyerin cheers them on and said that they were still the best to her even if they didn’t get 1st.
