Prologue
It was midday when Alina Fairfax was on her patrol shift around her pack’s pack house. She was checking the wall and making sure that there were no holes or broken fencing trying to make sure that was no possible way that anyone other than her pack members could enter the territory. Ade, one of other patrol officers ran up to her.
“Hey Lina, Drystan wants to see you. He sent me to relieve you.”
Alina rolled her eyes and started walking back to the pack house. Not this again. Drystan was the beta of her pack, the Shadow Crescent pack. He also was very much fond of Alina. With Alina being seventeen, she knew her days were numbered because she knew that the day that she turned eighteen that Drystan would try to claim her as his chosen mate. Just the thought of that made her quake with disgust. The fact that he was thirty-five years old compared to her being only seventeen was just heartbreaking for her thinking that she would have to be stuck with him.
She opened the door to the pack house and turned left and down a hall. Once she was close to reaching the end of it, she knew that Drystan’s office would be on the right. She reached his office door and took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
“Come in!” she heard Drystan’s voice raise on the other side of the door. She opened it and walked in.
“You asked for me Beta Drystan?” she said with her head down trying not to make eye contact with him.
“Yes. I need you Alina. I was hoping that we would have this conversation when you turned eighteen, but I find myself wanting, needing really, to have this conversation with you know.” he explained.
“Okay, what’s up?” she said dryly.
“I want to make you my choice mate Alina. I know that you are still hoping that you will find your mate one day, but I see that as just a waste of time when you and I can choose each other. I just want to give you the world.” he approached her and cuffed her cheeks in his hands and pulled her face up for her to be able to look at him in the eyes. “Tell me you will think about it.” He said next.
“Beta…” she said, but before she could continue, he cut her off.
“Please Alina, I just asked you to be my mate. Call me Drystan.” He said giving her a lustful smile.
“Okay, Drystan…” it felt very uncomfortable calling him by his name, “I understand your wishes, but I am not interested in becoming your mate. I appreciate the offer, but I would rather wait for the person that the Moon Goddess chose for me. I hope you can understand.”
At this, his eyes darkened, and he flung towards her, “YOU WILL BE MY MATE! YOU WILL LOVE ME! AND WE WILL LIVE OUT OUR LIVES IN HARMONY!” he was screaming at her and without her noticing he managed to get a hold of her left wrist.
“Beta, I’m sorry!” she whimpered under him towering her.
He let go of her and went back behind his desk and sat down. Alina started to walk out of his office, and he jumped up and grabbed her again, “I’m going to show you just how much of mine you are going to be.” He said hoarsely grabbing her by her waste and pulling her in. Just before he was about to kiss her, a voice from the hallway came through.
“Drystan! We need to talk. I think we should reconsider the expansion to the north.” Alpha Jon’s voice got louder and louder as he approached the door. Drystan let go of Alina and backed away. At that, Alina took the opportunity to get out of there. She left and walked past her Alpha quickly.
She ran to her room and threw herself onto her bed and began to sob hysterically. This is what her life has led to. Forced to be mated to basically an old man. A monster. She was seventeen, anyone older than twenty-one was old to her. She sat up and took a deep breath and shook her head. She stood up and looked around her room. This was it. She grabbed a duffel bag that she used to use for camps and threw as much of her stuff in it as she could. She threw on her converse and went to her window. She opened it and threw her duffel bag out of it. Next, she jumped and landed on all fours. She grabbed the bag and took off immediately. She reached the fence where she was patrolling earlier where she found a weak spot that she repaired and re-broke it and ran through the forest. She didn’t stop until she felt like she was a good enough distance away. She took out a bottle of perfume that she brought with her and began spraying it on trees. She knew that if they went after her, she would need to lead them astray. So, she went east about twenty yards spraying. Then she dropped the bottle and turned around and went west. That was the last time she was going to see her pack ever again; or so she thought.
