Chapter 1 - After

947 Words
It has been six years since Alina left her pack and has been on her own. She has no plans of ever reentering the wolf world, but she does still love living as a wolf. When she left, she caught a bus that took her out of Oregon and straight through Idaho and into Dubois, Wyoming. She started working at a little café in the center of town. Her first few weeks she had to stay anywhere she could. The park benches at the park, under the bridge that went over Taylor creek. There was a small part where the land stayed dry and the water didn’t get her or any of her stuff wet. She spent most of her nights here. After her second week working for Village Café, she met Daphne. Daphne was a pale, thin girl with long light brown hair that she always kept in a half ponytail. She worked in the café too and eventually her and Alina became inseparable. When Daphne found out that Alina was homeless, she immediately offered for her to move in with her. That’s how it went for the next couple of years. Daphne and Alina as roommates and working in the café together. The were like peanut butter and jelly, they meshed so well together.     After two years though, Alina’s heart was broken yet again when Daphne told her that she was leaving to go to college in Oklahoma. She got accepted there due to testing high on her state exams. With that being said, with a heavy heart and tears in her eyes, Alina said goodbye to her very best friend. Alina had saved a bunch of money during this time though and decided that she wanted to use her savings to buy a small piece of land.     Two acres of freedom was at her fingertips when she finalized the paperwork. She was so excited to be starting this next chapter in her life that she couldn’t sit still in the chair she was sitting in waiting for the real estate agent to bring her the deed to her new land. He handed it to her, and she ran out and went straight there.     She hopped into the crappy 1998 dark green Jeep Wrangler that Daphne had left her and took off to her new home. She had visited it before when the real estate agent had showed her different properties to possibly purchase. This one plot stood out because it had a bunch of trees and in the middle of them all stood a small rundown cabin. She saw herself fixing it up and making it her forever home where she could live the rest of her life. *************************************************************************************************************** 4 years later     Since then, Daphne has come home to visit a few times over the years but ended up staying in Oklahoma after she graduated due to finding and falling in love with a man named Charles. Alina was happy for her but at the same time she was also very lonely. Every time Daphne and Charles came up to visit, Daphne always had Charles do something to help Alina fix up her cabin. To say the least, all they have been able to do at this point is get electricity running to the cabin and running water along with cleaning it out and making it livable. Alina managed to get furniture here and there. She got a pretty good bedroom set at Mrs. Bowman’s garage sale. She managed to talk her down to thirty bucks rather than the eighty she originally wanted so that ended up being a steal for Alina. The doctor’s office was getting new furniture for their waiting area and were going to throw out the old couch they had in there so Alina asked if she could have it instead. Thankfully, Dr. Carson said yes and now she has a free couch. Everything else she got was just the same. Finding different things here and there to fill her little cabin. She still had the crappy Jeep that Daphne left for her. She no longer works in the café anymore. Instead she took to growing different fruits and vegetables and selling them at different town events. This gave her a reason to leave her home every once in a while and go out and see people.     One night, after a day of harvesting and getting ready for the next town event, Lily was just itching to come out and go for a run and of course, Alina let her. She shifted into her wolf and let Lily take control so she could run until her heart was content. I mean, she had two whole acres all to herself and wasn’t worried about anyone seeing her or any type of traps capturing her. So, she was comfortable letting Lily do as she pleased. This night was different though, usually Lily would follow the same path as she always did, but tonight she was taking a completely different route compared to other nights.     “Lily, where are you going?” Alina asked her wolf from the back of her head.     “I smell something. I’m investigating.” Lily answered and the sped up to see what the smell was. It has been years since Alina or Lily have been around any other wolves and finding them was far off their radar. When Lily finally reached the smell, they were on the edge of their property. A fence had been put up that neither of them had ever seen before.     “Interesting…” Lily said, “When did this get here?”     “I don’t know Lily. Maybe we should go home and come back when there’s day…” Alina said but couldn’t finish because Lilly cut her off.     “MATE!” Lily exclaimed.
