Todd rode until he had to stop or risk his horse. He couldn’t take the time to get another one, and without the animal, Nick might be lost forever. Besides, if Nick ever found out he hadn’t properly cared for the animal, Nick would have his hide.
Nick had said one of the men was a sentry, and Todd was sure he recognized the man.
He didn’t want to, but he knew he needed to sidetrack to Jimmy’s place. Showing up in the middle of the night might not have been the smartest thing to do, but Todd was desperate.
