"How are you doing, Alicia?" the voice of my mother was neutral. I couldn't say how she really felt. "I'm alright, mum. How about you?" She sighed: "Alright. Everything is getting slowly better." I could hear the unspoken "since you left". Tears were slowly filling my eyes but I wasn't going to admit it: "And how about Thomas?" I always loved my brother, but since he found his mate, we haven't talked as often. He moved to another state to be with Julia. He had a new life but my mum always knew what was going on with him. After all, now he was the golden child. "He is doing fine. With Julia, they decided to start trying for a little pup." "I'm really happy for them. They will be great parents." I tried not to let my sarcasm get into the last words, but it wasn't easy. There was a lot of awkward silence after. There wasn't much we could say and there was only one more person I could ask about. "How about dad?" She needed to take a breatch for this one. "He is fine." "I doubt that." Couldn't resist and had to say it. "Alicia, he is trying and you know that. He...he is also not happy about this situation, but that's what we had to do. He is the head of our family and he had to make a decision, no matter how hard for him." I wasn't sure she was telling this to me or to herself. "He still loves you. I still love you. But we have to think about OUR future." The anger was building up. "Yes, Alpha made it clear that my future in Red Moon pack was over. So you had to choose." "And what were we supposed to do?" "I don't know. Choose your daughter?" I was yelling, tears rolling down my face. And she...she remained ice calm. "You made your decisions and we had to make ours." she said. And I stayed silent. She had to remind me. In her eyes, it was all my fault. She told me to go to the meeting party but not to have fun. My job was to take care of Dalia. To control her. As if that was possible. Instead, I lost it. I lost it all. "Okay then, mum. Let's make it final. Don't bother with these calls. If you need to know something, I'm sure the principal will inform you." She took a second to answer: "As you wish." and she hung up. I stood there, resisting the urge to cry. Angry and lonely. Feeling like there was no one in this world who could help me. "I'm still here, little one. I won't leave you, ever. And I will always be on your side." "Thanks, Ama. But you don't really have any other choice. So you don't really count." I smiled sadly. "You know there is someone else. I don't want to make you angry, but I had to say it." "You know we can't have him. He doesn't belong to us." "He should belong to us. No matter how it was with Dalia. You should at least give him a chance. Maybe ask more about that evening." She wasn't completely wrong. I didn't like talking about it myself but maybe he felt something he didn't mention and that could help me understand. I headed to the principal's office hoping I would find the principal. Thankfully, I got lucky. I knocked at his door and found him filling some reports. "How can I help you Alicia?" he asked suprised to see me. "Sorry to bother you on the weekend." I started. "That's alright. As you can see, I can't really stay away from my office anyway. I'm little bit of a workoholic you could say." he smiled. "Hm... and is your wife also little bit of a workoholic?" I asked shyly. He laughed: "Yes, I think you can say that I suppose. You can find her in library. Do you know where it is?" he asked friendly and explained me in which building I should look at. I headed there straight away.
