It all started with a bottle of coke
Chapter one
It all started with a bottle of coke
The cafeteria buzzed with laughter and chat
as I made my way towards the table in the
farthest corner, dubbed "Loser ville". My best
friend, Pauline Rush, waved over to and
pointed towards her brother, Jay Rush. I
raised my eyebrows and shook my head firmly.
Jay was kind of my crush but I would never
have the guts to talk to him, even though he
was friendly enough to me.
I went over and sat down at the table and
soon my other best friend's I'd I must say, gay
best friend's Ethan White slapped his blue lunch
tray on the table and sat down suddenly,
making the whole table rattle.
''What's up with lover boy,'' Pauline teased,
knowing about Ethan's crush on James, a
straight guy in our class. Pauline was a serious
looking girl, with a light brown complexion that
I envied and pin straight corns colored hair.
''Don't talk about him,'' he grumbled. ''I
found out that he was straight today,'' he
chastised, venomously glaring at Ellie, who
apparently liked James and he liked her back.
Pauline and I knew about this but we
preferred that he find about this on his own.
''Aw, I'm sure there are plenty of other great
guys out there,'' Pauline comforted, rubbing
his arm.
Suddenly, I felt a shadow behind me. ''Hey,
guys,'' a familiar voice said--a voice which I
loved. It was Jay Rush. He put a big hand on
my shoulder and I swiveled my head, turning
around my body to face him. ''Bri, Mrs.
Johnson told me to give you these revision
papers.''
''T-thanks,'' I stuttered, nervously taking the
bundle of papers from him. Just his smile
would make me melt. Jay Rush was ridiculously
hot--with the blonde hair, blue eyes thing going
on. He smiled and went back to his table.
''Yeah, she's right,'' I added in, back on the
conversation about Ethan and James. I was
kind of bad at comforting people so I would
just murmur in approval. ''Hey guys, I'm just
gonna get my food.''
Both of them murmured a ''yes'' and I set
off to get it. Life at Amity High was silent and
peaceful. My life only revolved around Pauline,
Ethan and well--Jay.
After getting my lunch tray, on which was a
cheeseburger, some fries, and a diet coke, I
began to trudge back to my table. My mind
was preoccupied with a lot of things--I had to
pick up my little sister, Valerie and then
complete the essay Mr. Greene has assigned
and the homework math sums. I sighed at the
thought of the amounting workload.
Distractedly, I opened the coke bottle and
took a swig. Engrossed with my thoughts, I
didn't even realize where I was heading. The
coke bottle was still open, clutched in my
hand. And that was when I ran into a rock
solid wall.
''Oops,'' I cried, as I stumbled backward but
didn't lose my balance and fall on my butt.
Because in no less than fifteen seconds, it
would be up on YouTube. You didn't know the
idiots in my school who always had their
phones and cameras ready.
The whole room became deathly silent. I was
puzzled for a second. And then it hit me that
there wasn't a random brick wall in the room.
And second, the coke bottle wasn't in my
hand.
I gulped visibly and slowly looked upwards,
only to face the horrifying Brad Stone. The
boy who had a reputation for breaking rules,
and also, rejecting every single girl. He had
killer looks though--jet black hair and piercing
blue eyes, completed with a chiseled jaw and
high cheekbones. And there was a MASSIVE
(So huge that I had to capitalize that) stain
on his leather jacket.
Which had been made by none other than my
coke.
''I-I'm sorry,'' I stammered, looking
anywhere but him. ''I'll clean it up.'' I hoped
it would come off or surely I would be dead
by tomorrow.
''Listen, I don't know who the hell you are,
but you're not gonna get away with this,
understand?'' the guy literally growled, glaring
at me with his icy blue eyes.
My eyes slightly widened with fear but I had
apologized--who did this jerk think he was? I
had even offered to clean it up! ''What, cat
got your tongue?''
Mustering up all my courage, my voice barely
above a whisper (I hope I was audible
enough), ''But I apologized! And I even
offered to clean your jacket! You've got no
right to talk to me like that!'' I furiously said.
He narrowed his eyes, staring at me itently--
making goosebumps appear on my skin. I was
surprised I hadn't turned into ice then and
there. ''Whatever,'' he rolled his eyes,
thrusting the jacket upon me.
Stunned, I caught it. What a jerk, and what
a way to talk with women!
"Excuse me? But I think you should be more
respectful towards others," I reprimanded,
not caring that I sounded like a grandma.
"Does it look like I care, little nerd?" Brad
scoffed, and turned around to talk with his
mates again.
I tapped his shoulder. I know I was being a
fool. I was walking into my own deathtrap,
but I didn't care. No one could get away,
talking to me like that!
"Here is your jacket," I said with a bit of
confidence. "I won't clean it until you politely
say so," my voice wavered a bit but I stood
my ground.
I could feel the entire cafeteria's eyes glued
on us. It was like watching a slow drama
movie unfold.
I stood staring at him, maintaining eye
contact with him--which was I bravest thing
that I had ever done.
From the corner of my eye, I could see
Pauline frantically mouthing something and Jay
Rush looked--impressed!
A smile fought it's way on my lips and I
immediately regretted it. Brad looked
outraged. He grabbed my shoulder, inching in
closer.
"Listen, nerd. Clean this jacket, or I'll make
sure your life is hell," he hissed. Up so close,
he looked like an angel--his face was literal
perfection. He shouldn't scowl so much.
"I don't care," I mumbled, losing confidence
by the second.
"Clean it and give it to me later," he simply
said, tossing me the jacket and I caught it,
bewildered.
He was about to walk away, when he suddenly
turned and said, his voice so low that only the
both of us could hear, "Listen, little nerd. You
think you can be all buff? This isn't over."
My stomach churned at the words. What had gotten myself into?
