Chapter Nineteen Samantha watched as the Uppsala river flowed past gently. She was sitting on the park bench just outside her studio. Ella stood by the water, breaking pieces of bread and feeding it to the ducks that had collected there. Samantha’s only client that day had canceled. She found two days off to be especially frustrating. But she couldn’t do anything about it, so she was trying to keep her daughter as happy as she could. She picked up the half-eaten bagel that she had bought, but she didn’t feel like eating it and put it down again. It was the middle of a weekday, so there weren’t many people by the river.
