College
Vivian's POV
Leg shaving season is back and I'm not mentally prepared for the amount of effort this task takes. I laid there looking at my legs not knowing what to do. I woke up extra early because I knew damn well I was going to argue with myself for about ten minutes deciding if I should shave my legs or not. I mean, I barely wear shorts, and I shaved like last week. Why does hair grow back so quickly everywhere on my body except my head?!
I groaned as I leaned back on the headboard and stared at the wall. My apartment was pretty nice, not what I imagined my first apartment ever being like. I wanted to get two bedrooms to seem fancy but I don't live with anyone so that would be beyond pointless. I lived on the third floor so if there was ever a fire I would be okay, I think.
It's funny, when I was younger and my parents told me we were going somewhere the day before, I would spend that night going over my entire morning plan and how long it would take for us to get there. And yet, we always ended up late. And it was always because of them. I rolled my eyes as I thought about my parents and finally got out of bed.
I looked at my alarm clock to see it was seven fifteen. I have to be in my first class by nine which isn't bad because I can always wake up by seven. I can not wake up before six, no matter how hard I try. And who the f**k wakes up before six anyways?
I stopped in the middle of my room, wondering if I should go on my morning run but decided against it. I walked into my bathroom and started the shower. I walked back to my room and picked out my clothes from my drawer. I grabbed a towel and got into the shower. I know showers are supposed to be relaxing but I always feel like someone could pop out of nowhere and try and kill me.
Like you know how when you go to the bathroom you try and catch the ghost in the shower lacking? Yeah I do too, but in my head, once I get in the shower, the ghost goes out the shower and is just waiting for the right time to attack.
I quickly washed myself and my hair. I stopped the shower with my foot and turned off the water. I moved the shower curtains and looked both ways before I stepped out.
After about ten minutes I had everything ready. Except I haven't eaten anything. I put on my watch and checked the time at the same time. I had about twenty minutes until my first class started so I decided to stop somewhere on my way there. I just moved here from Montana about a month ago and I've been so focused on finding a job and getting my apartment in shape, that I haven't had any time to tour North Carolina very much.
At this point I'm about five seconds from becoming a stripper.
I grabbed my keys and left my apartment and locked it. I got into the elevator and held onto the rain as it went down. I have a really big fear of dying. And I've watched a lot of movies where people died in elevators. My grandmother wasn't really the best at raising kids but at least she tried.
I quickly got out as soon as they opened and walked outside. I don't have a car yet and to be honest I don't really plan on getting one anytime soon. I like taking walks so it doesn't bother me much. I took out my phone and looked at the GPS to see where the college was. I started walking in the direction and started my day.
Surprisingly I didn't put my headphones in which is weird because I love listening to music. After about five minutes I saw a little cafe and decided to stop and get coffee. I looked around and smiled seeing as the aurora of this place was amazing. I also noticed that there was a small library place to the right.
I walked up to the counter and the man took my order. I leaned against the counter and continued to look around. It was a small place but I could tell people liked it. It was early so not many people were on the streets so it was quiet. "Here you go. That will be 5.15." I reached into my back pocket and sighed seeing as I forgot my wallet.
"Here." I turned my head as I saw a blonde handing money to the man. "I got it." I was going to object but she didn't let me and smiled. I took my coffee and she took hers.
"Thank you, I'll pay you back." She waved me off and took a sip of her coffee.
"No need. You seemed like a potential friend." I smiled and drank my coffee. We walked out together and the fresh august air hit me. "So, are you heading to Davidson?" The blonde asked. I nodded my head.
"Yeah, you go there? Also, I didn't catch your name." She smiled at me.
"Uh yes I do go there, my second year. And it's Logan. What about you?" We stopped walking and looked both ways before crossing the street.
"I'm Vivian, and this is my first year." She slapped me on the shoulder.
"Well, welcome to hell." We both laughed as we stepped onto campus. It was really big and there were about three other buildings around it. "Come on. I'll show you around." I followed her into the school to come across people walking around and talking, a few were even skating around making me laugh to myself. "What are you studying?" Logan asked me as she sat down on a bench.
I sat down next to her. "Uh literature. I don't know what I want to do with my life yet but I want writing to evolve." She hummed in response.
"Understandable. I'm taking a few art classes right now. Nothing special." I nodded as I drank my coffee.
"So is there anything I should know about this place before I get sucked in?" I asked and she laughed and shrugged her shoulders.
"Nothing much, the people here are somewhat nice. We don't bully but we don't talk to each other either so, uh, oh!" She snapped her fingers as if a thought just popped into her head. "There is a professor here." I chuckled.
"Well I would hope so considering this is a college." She laughed too and rolled her eyes.
"No, she has a-" She started doing things with her hands and then looked at me as if I was supposed to know what it meant. She sighed and chuckled. "She has a penis." My mouth dropped a little bit more out of questioning than shock.
"Well, there are a lot of people that are transgender nowadays, so-"
"No, she was born that way. I think. I don't really know. But she is mean as hell. I think last year she had about ten students drop out her class within the first week." I laughed a little while shaking my head.
"Yeah well if I just so happened to have her I will be able to handle it." She tilted her head to the side as if she didn't believe me. "My parents died some time ago so I've learned how to handle annoying people. And that I have some anger issues." I said that last part quietly and she laughed.
"Well, I'm sorry about your parents." I hummed in response as I drank my coffee. I wasn't sad when my parents died and I'm still not. "Buy anyways," she started but my attention went behind her as I saw a woman with black hair enter the building. She looked straight ahead as if she was dreading to go any further. I squinted my eyes at her as I watched everyone who saw her immediately stop talking and walk away.
She was wearing sunglasses so I couldn't really see her face. Logan must have noticed that I wasn't paying attention and looked behind her to see the woman. As if she could feel the stare, the woman snapped her head in our direction. Logan quickly stood up and grabbed my arm and dragged me down the hall.
I looked behind me to see that woman staring directly at me. Once we were out of view Logan stopped. "Let me guess. She's the one 'bully' you guys have?" I asked while crossing my arms. She slightly shrugged.
"I guess you could say that. She's actually-" the bell rang before she could finish. "Nevermind I'll tell you later. I'll see you at lunch. Bye Viv." I smiled at the nickname.
"Bye Logan"
"Call me Jazz, it's my middle name. I hate Logan." I didn't argue and just nodded my head. I watched as she walked away and once I couldn't see her anymore I looked around to see the halls were completely empty.
"She did not show me around. One bit." I whispered to myself as I adventured my way through the hallways.
