CHAPTER 1
AMELIA
I never thought someone I loved could try to hurt me. I never thought something like this could happen to me, but it did, and now I'm running away from someone I love.
I'm running away, not to be killed by my father. Furthermore, I keep running through the forest, feeling the raindrops getting me wetter and wetter.
I feel my feet touching the wet mud, and I feel very cold. I am not wearing shoes or proper clothes to be running in the forest on a very rainy night.
Likewise, I was forced to leave the house running wearing only my sweater and nothing else, but I can't stop now, or I will be killed. Furthermore, I can't stop because he might find me here; I need to keep running.
It's very dark, and I can't see anything, but I just keep running, feeling my hands touching the trees next to me. I stumble, and seconds later I'm lying on the ground.
I can't see anything around me; I'm lying on the wet ground, getting scared, when thunder lights up the sky for a few seconds. Likewise, I'm so scared, but I still need to keep running.
I don't know how all this happened, but I woke up in the middle of the night hearing my dad coming home. We live in a small house in a private part of town with no neighbors. My mom died when I was a kid, and since her death, I have lived with my dad until today.
I woke up very sleepy, and I thought everything was normal, like every night that my father usually comes home drunk, but I was lying in bed when I heard noises of things breaking, and minutes later he was inside my room.
I love and know my dad very well, and I'm sure that wasn't him; we've always had a good relationship, but tonight something went wrong with him, and it changed him completely.
He was always a caring father to me, and I loved that, but today he tried to kill me. At first, I thought he was drunk like every night, but he was different.
His eyes were completely red, and he had sharp teeth. That was not my dad; my dad would never try to hurt me, and tonight he tried to attack me.
He tried to bite me, and it scared me; he was stronger than ever, but I managed to get away when I pierced his body using a piece of broken glass. I saw when he fell to the ground and stayed still, and that increased my fear.
Something seemed to be possessing him, but when he was attacking me, he asked me to run away and not look back, and I am doing that now.
I am scared that I have killed my father. I am scared that I have lost the only person I still had in my life, but now I am alone.
Furthermore, I close my eyes tightly, starting to cry when I think that my father might be dead now. I didn't want to do that, but he almost killed me, and I had to do something to stop him, but I didn't want to hurt my father.
I feel the guilt growing inside me, and I touch my neck, feeling my skin sore after he squeezed my neck hard using his hands. Likewise, I try to control my tears and my body, which keeps shaking with cold.
Something is wrong with my father, but I can't stop now. I need to believe that he is alive, but he is possessed by something, and I need to keep running away from my home.
The rain keeps falling hard against my body, and I stand up quickly, trying to see something around me. I feel a pain in my arm, and I feel a liquid flowing from my skin, and I know I must be bleeding now.
I keep running, feeling my feet sliding in the mud. Furthermore, I still feel pain when I feel my breath panting from running too fast, but now I have no one, and I don't know where I can go.
A rustle in a bush makes my fear rise, and I keep running and looking back when I realize something is following me.
I bite my lips to keep from crying in despair because I can't die in this forest alone.
I don't know where I am going, but I can't stop now; the noise increases, as if someone or something is also running after me faster and faster.
Furthermore, I scream out loud when I feel something sharp piercing one of my feet; the pain radiates throughout my leg, and I lose my balance, falling to the ground once again. I must be completely dirty now, and I close my eyes, groaning in pain as I touch under my foot, feeling something piercing my skin.
I open my eyes, just listening to the sound of the rain. Furthermore, I can't stop; I need to keep going, but the wound on my foot is hurting too much, and it will stop me from continuing to run.
"You can do this, Amelie...", I whisper to myself, touching the thing on my foot again.
It must be some kind of very large and sharp thorn, but I need to pull it out and keep going. I take a deep breath and scream as I pull the thorn out of my skin.
I'm still in pain, and I know it's going to stop me from getting up. An idea pops into my head, and I'm about to rip off a piece of my sweater to bandage my wound when I hear the sound of something approaching.
I feel my heartbeat accelerating rapidly, and I lift my head to look around me, but I can't see anything. I know something is watching me, and it makes me completely panic.
My father always said never to go to the forest at night because this place is very dangerous, but I didn't think of that reminder when I was running away from home, and now I'm here.
Danger.
I put my hands over my mouth, trying to make no noise, when I heard footsteps getting closer and closer. I'm panicked and very scared, and I know I can't handle it.
Furthermore, I shiver when I hear the sound of new thunder that lights up the sky for a few seconds, but I open my eyes wide when I see something with glowing eyes looking at me.
They are not human eyes or red eyes, like my father's eyes were when I ran away from home.
This thing's eyes are a golden hue and are glowing in the dark as it continues to watch me. I start to breathe hard when I realize this is no harmless forest animal.
I see the eyes getting closer, and I move further away as I continue to sit on the wet ground. Another thunderous roar lights up the forest, and I scream when this time I see something very, very big; this is not human.
Its teeth are very sharp, and it's twice my size. I get up, groaning in pain, and before continuing to try and run away, I start to cry in panic, touching the trees around me and feeling the pain in my foot increase more and more.
I need to get out of here.
Likewise, I try, but the pain in my injured foot stops me from walking, and I fall to the ground again. I feel my body getting weaker and weaker, and I think I'm dying because I've never felt this feeling before.
I'm lying down, feeling the raindrops fall on my weak body, when I feel a warm breath near my face. Furthermore, I turn my head, seeing the golden eyes looking at me again, and I don't have time to try to run away again because I completely lose consciousness looking at the golden pupils next to me.
I open my eyes, feeling my whole body go weak. I blink my eyes, trying to stay awake, but it's too hard at this point. Likewise, I can see I'm being carried by someone; I'm lying on someone's shoulders, and I look down, seeing boots.
Someone managed to find me and is taking me somewhere. I don't have a friend, so I know that some unknown person found me and is helping me or...
I blink my eyes again, thinking that now I must be wrong; the forest is too dark, and no one goes there at night, and someone managed to find me, which could mean that this person has other intentions with me.
A young girl unconscious in the middle of a forest with no one around is the perfect scene for a murder. I try to move, but I can't; it's like I have no strength left in my body.
I raise my head, seeing that it's still night and that this person keeps walking through the forest. Likewise, I open my mouth to start talking, but I can't do that either; everything around me starts spinning again, and that's the last thing I can see before I pass out again.
Furthermore, I feel like I'm struggling to open my eyes, and I do so feeling my head hurt, my eyes fixate on the roof of some house, and I keep looking at the timbers, realizing I'm lying on something.
I groan, touching my head and seeing that my hair is wet, and the previous events start to dominate my mind quickly. I can remember running away from home, entering the dangerous forest, and then seeing that scary thing looking at me.
