CHAPTER 2

1758 Words
AMELIA That's the last thing I remember before passing out in the middle of the forest. I look around me, seeing that I'm lying on a bed and that my body is covered by a warm blanket. This is not my home, and I force my mind to remember something that will make me understand why I am in this unknown place. My body aches, but the pain is weaker than before. I sit up in bed, my eyes widening when I see that I'm wearing an oversized men's t-shirt. Someone took my clothes off while I was sleeping, and it scares me. I analyze every part of my body, trying to know if I was violated in some way, but everything looks normal. My eyes fixate on my leg, and I touch my left foot, seeing that someone has also bandaged my wound, and I realize that there is also another bandage on my arm. I raise my head, realizing that I am in some sort of cabin in a forest. I am about to get out of bed when I hear noises coming from somewhere else in the wooden house. Furthermore, I look around quickly, seeing a very large knife on a small table. I am in an unknown place with a completely unknown person, and I need to protect myself. I remember what happened to my father, and I bite my lips to keep from crying at this moment. Likewise, I want to go home, but I don't know if my father is okay or hurt after what happened the night before. Furthermore, I hold the knife tightly in my hands, seeing that footsteps are approaching the bedroom door. I stand up, still feeling my feet hurt, when I see the door being opened. I am completely surprised when I see a man enter the room. He is very tall and has a very muscular body full of tattoos all over it, covered in casual and warm clothes. The tall man looks at me, and I see that he has black hair, and the color of his eyes is... Golden. I keep looking at the man who looks at me, seeing that I am holding the knife towards him. "I see you've woken up...", he says in a hoarse voice, and I blink my eyes as he steps closer to me. "You were very weak when I found you, and you should still be in bed, girl.", he says. "Who are you, and what am I doing here?", I ask, clutching the knife tighter in my hands. "Put the knife down now, girl!", he orders, looking at me with his bright eyes, but I deny it with my head. "Don't come any closer, or I'll...", I threaten, but in a few seconds, he manages to take the knife out of my hands with a very fast movement. I hear the knife falling somewhere in the room and the man looking at me; he's much taller than me, and I'm too hurt to try to hit him right now. "Answer my questions!", I ask, looking at the man in front of me. I look at the window next to me. Seeing that this wooden hut is located on top of a mountain very close to the forest, I didn't know that there was someone who lived in this dangerous part. If he lives here, it's because he must also be a dangerous person, and I need to get out of here, but I don't know where I'm going after what happened yesterday, and the morning looks very cold outside. "I found you passed out in the forest and very hurt. It seems that you stepped on a very poisonous thorn that would kill you if you weren't saved. Thank you for that!", he says with an ironic voice and smile, and I sigh, looking at my foot again. That was poison, and it could have killed me in the middle of that forest. He doesn't know me, but he saved me and took care of my injuries. "Why am I here? What is your name?", I ask, arching one of my eyebrows, seeing that the color of his eyes is very different from anything I've ever seen before. "I said I saved you in the middle of the forest and saved you from being killed by wild animals; My name is Tyler.", he says, and I try to relax a bit. "Thank you for saving my life, but I need to leave, Tyler.", I say I'm trying to get past him, but the man's big hand holds my arm. "You're not in a good condition to leave like this; I hate humans, but you're hurt, and you need to rest a bit." What does he mean by the phrase "I hate humans"? I open my mouth to say something, but he stops touching me and looks at me again as if he wants to know more about me. "What were you doing in that forest alone at night? You looked very scared when you saw me, and you were running like you were running away from someone. What happened?", he asks, and I widen my eyes, remembering the part where I met that creature in the forest. There was no human around, and that makes me realize that this man in front of me is the same creature that was watching me in the forest yesterday. I open my mouth to say something else, but I get scared again and move away from the man. He frowns as if he is very confused at this moment and tries to approach me again. "I don't know what happened to you, but I'm not going to hurt you...", he says, raising his hands as I fall on the bed behind me. "You're that scary thing that was in the forest last night...", I whisper, and he starts laughing. "Scary thing? I saved you, and you call me that? Well, that's one of the reasons I hate humans more and more...", he says, smiling wryly once again. "Oh, sorry! I'm too confused about what happened yesterday, and I don't know if I'm thinking very well right now...", I said, sighing and closing my eyes for a few seconds. The golden-eyed man sits on the bed at a safe distance as if he wants me to be comfortable in his presence, and I sit on the bed in such a way that I don't put my injured foot on the floor. "What is your name?", he asks, and I look at him, trying to figure out if I should tell him that. But he saved me, and I need to trust him a little bit. I would surely be dead right now in the middle of that forest, but I'm here and alive. "Amelia." "Why were you running away because you were afraid of something, Amelia?", he asks again, and I look at Tyler before I start telling him what happened. "I don't know, but something happened to my dad last night; he was wild and tried to attack me. I knew there was something wrong because he was never a person like that." "Can you describe how he was?", he asks, and I nod, looking at my body covered by Tyler's big t-shirt. "He had red eyes; he was stronger and looked wild, and his teeth were big and sharp like they were made to bite something that wasn't my dad...", I say this remembering the feeling of being attacked by the person I love the most in this world. Tyler stares at me in silence, as if he's thinking about something right now. "Amelia, did he bite you?", he asks, and I frown, not understanding this kind of conversation. "No, he tried to, but I stopped him and ran away from home and went to the forest at night; I was too scared...", I said, feeling tears in my eyes. He keeps silently looking at me, and that makes me even more nervous. He gets up from the bed and stands, looking out the bedroom window. "You need to rest, then we can talk; humans shouldn't know some things, but you saw it, and there's no way to change it...", he says, leaving the room quickly and closing the door, leaving me completely confused. Why does he call me human like that? I lay back on the bed, looking at the wooden ceiling, thinking about Tyler. Was he that creature from last night? How is that possible? I know I live in a normal world, but it doesn't seem normal to me anymore. It's clear that there are many things I don't know about this world yet, and everything is revealing itself now. It was very dark last night, and I could just see the golden eyes watching me. A man who turns into a creature at night? This is too much for me after everything that happened. I close my eyes and sigh, thinking about what I'm going to do. The pain has subsided, but I'm still hurt, and I won't be able to walk through the forest again like this all the way home. Home. I want to know how my dad is doing, but I'm afraid to go home and find him like that again. I still can't believe any of this. Likewise, I miss my dad. Furthermore, I feel tears in my eyes, and I pull the blanket over my body while I feel tired again. I don't know how many hours I slept, but I feel tired, and I'll sleep again in a few minutes. I'm asleep when I hear the sound of the door to our house being opened with force. Likewise, I continue with my eyes closed, listening to my father come home drunk once again, like every night. This has become a daily routine since my mother's death. He knows that drinking alcohol like this will damage his health, but he can't stop after he lost my mother. It was horrible to see my father do this to himself. I asked him many times to stop, but he can't anymore. I open my eyes, seeing everything dark in my room, when I hear noises of things breaking in the kitchen. Furthermore, I control my urge to get out of bed and check if my dad is okay, but I am sure he is drunk and looking for more drinks in the kitchen, and that makes me try to sleep again.
