Kate’s POV
“What are you girls talking about?” A husky voice popped up and stopped me from drowning further in the sadness.
“Max! How are you? ” Ashley greeted and kissed his cheek, “I bet you didn’t mind I stole your girl way, did you? ” She said it in a dramatic tone.
YOUR GIRL?? Did she mean your assistant?
I glanced at Max. He didn’t deny that or correct the way she addressed me, “I’m good. Thanks, Ashley. You’re back. How are you doing?”
“Perfect actually. I just told Kate that it’s unusual you brought a girl to the party.” She turned to me when involving me in the talk. Although I felt embarrassed by her teasing, it’s hard to blame her. She was always polite and ‘thoughtful’ about not-isolating me.
