Chapter 14

Val

I flitted around the Cafe, making some zucchini and banana bread for today. Thinking about what Lucas said about a lifelong commitment if you have s*x? I had never heard anyone say that, let alone a guy. I was going to have to talk to him more about it later. Although the thought of spending forever with him wasn't horrible, it gave me butterflies just thinking about him. As I washed dishes, I heard the bell at the front door, and in strolled the neighborhood town deputy Marshall. "Morning Frank Jr, what can I get you?" I asked

"How about some black coffee and a slice of you to go?" He said intently.

"One black coffee to go, and do you want anything from the pastry case Frank?" I asked sternly.

"Just you" he winked.

"Here you go Frank" I said, handing him his cup.

He grabbed my hand and it smelled like he had stepped into something rancid. "I said you to go", he said with a smile.

"Goodbye Frank!" I said, pulling my hand away.

"But Val..." He whined

"I believe she said goodbye Frank!" I heard a familiar voice behind me and saw Max.

"Bye Val, see you later!" Frank responded, walking out eyeballing Max.

"Hey stranger! Thank goodness you came in for coffee. What can I get you? " I asked Max.

"How about my usual, and we go talk?" He said, motioning to a table.

"Sure" I said.

We sat and chit chatted a bit, and then I asked him" did mom ever know why I had those wolf dreams, and how they went away?"

"Well, you started having them shortly after you moved here. What do you remember before coming here? Do you remember your father?" He asked.

I had to keep helping customers, and then Heather finally came in so I could sit and talk with Max.

"Sorry. To answer your question, I don’t really remember anything about my father or anything before coming here. Why?,"

"Well, did your mom ever mention anything?" He asked, clearly uncomfortable.

"The only thing I remember telling me one time was that he was mean, and that's why she left. That was shortly before she passed", I told him.

I looked at the clock, Lucas, Damien, and Dy would be here anytime. "Max. I have company coming. Could we finish this later?" I asked.

"Yes absolutely!" He said, giving me a hug and left.

Lucas

Damien and Dy dropped me off at my vehicle and then we continued to the Cafe. My stomach was in knots wanting to see Val, and knowing I was going to have to talk to her. I walked in and the smell of cinnamon with lavenderose hit my nose as I saw her walk out from behind the counter in a floor-length skirt, tank top and she was pulling on a sweater.

"Close your mouth, alpha" Dy giggled over the link.

I smiled at Val, and she came up giving me a peck on the lips. She asked "what are you guys hungry for?"

"Let's try the steak place" Damien said.

I held back Val slightly and whispered in her ear "you look beautiful. "

She smiled and said "thank you"

We headed to the next town, and Damien and I linked back and forth over rogue business, as the girls talked about wedding details. "Are you excited about the wedding?" Val asked Damien, snapping us out of our conversation.

"Uh ya! Ready to have my mate back from the crazy person she's become. Damien joked.

Dy immediately smacked him, and him and I chuckled.

"Mate? That's an interesting way to put that," Val said.

"Thanks dude!" I linked Damien

"Forgot the audience! " He linked back

Conversation continued the rest of the trip without a hitch. Lunch was great as Val was getting along so well with Damien and Dy. Dy and Val talked about wedding cake ideas on the way back to the shop. They dropped us off at our vehicles, and Val ran in to check on things. "So what are you going to do?" Damien asked.

"I just have to tell her and see what she says. It's not helpful that Gavin keeps trying to gain control around her," I said.

Val returned and said goodbye to Damien and Dy. I followed her to her place as worry was building up in my chest. We got inside and I pulled her to me, "what's wrong baby?" I asked.

"I was going to ask you the same thing," she said.

I could feel her relax in my arms, and I felt less worry in my chest holding her. I kissed the top of her head and carried her back to the bedroom. We laid there for awhile, her just letting me hold her.

I felt her breathing slow and even out, as we laid there. "Baby are you still awake?" I asked.

"Mmmhmmm" She said barely.

"Just sleep" I told her.

I closed my eyes and listened to her breathe as I fell asleep.

Val

I woke up with a start after my neck was snapped in my dream again. Two muscular arms surrounded me, and I flinched at first and then remembered Lucas was with me. "Sorry" I said..

"No need to be. Are you okay?" He asked.

"I'm better now" I said, climbing on top of him. He pulled me up to his mouth, and clamped on to my lips with his. He sat up and pulled my shirt off as I pulled his off. I started running my hands over his chest and started kissing his neck. "Baby you're going to get into trouble", he said.

"Maybe I like being in trouble" I told him as I let my hands wander towards his already hard c**k.

He grabbed my hand while rolling us over, with him on top. He fenced me in on both sides with his huge muscular arms. His manhood is now hard and poking me in the crotch. His lips slammed into mine, as his hands ran through my hair, and then he gripped it, pulling my head to the side as he kissed my neck. "Baby, there is nothing more that I want to do but make love to you, but we need to talk first. " I heard him say.

My heart sank, "OK. Talk." I said.

Lucas

I felt Val wake with a jolt. I tried pulling her into me and apologizing. "No need to be. Are you okay? I asked.

Before I could think, she was sitting on top of me and saying "I'm better now".

She started rubbing my chest and kissing my neck, which made Gavin purr. Her hands wandered toward my already hard c**k, so I flipped us over, realizing Gavin had taken control.

He grabbed her hair, pulled her head to the side and started kissing where her mark would be. "Give me back control". I screamed at him.

"I will take care of her, and then we will be stronger with mate”. Gavin said

"No it has to be her choice. Give her back to me. " I screamed at him.

Gavin growled but relinquished control, in enough time for me to slow things down and talk to her. "Baby, there is nothing more that I want to do but make love to you, but we need to talk first. " I told her.

I could feel and see her saddened. "OK. Talk" She said and looked down.

I pulled her gaze back up to meet mine. I wiped away a tear. I didn't know where to start, but it was now or never. I sat up and sat her up with me. "Do you remember when Damien said mate earlier? And you thought it was weird?" I asked.

"Y-yes" She stuttered.

"And you remember when I said that making love with my people means a life-long commitment? I asked again

"Yes" she said, confused.

"Well, Damien and Dy are mates for life, and they will be married. Not that it is required to get married. I've been looking for my mate for 4 years, since my 17th birthday, and when I met you the other day I realized that it was you." I said, waiting for Val to take it in.

"So it is a cult thing? " She chuckled, trying to comprehend

"I don't know how you feel about me, baby, but I already love you, and I want nothing more to have you as my mate." I blabbered.

Her eyes got big and she had tears in her eyes. "I love you, but I don't understand."

My heart felt so high, she loved me? I grabbed her hands, "you don't understand the mate thing ? " I asked.

She shook her head no. "Sorry baby I'm trying to explain.... I'm a werewolf."

Val

I didn't understand what Lucas was trying to tell me, mates? Married or not? I could almost not process anything after he said he loved me. I realized that's how I felt about him. "I love you, but I don't understand." I told him.

"You don't understand the mate thing ? He asked

How could I understand? I've never heard anything call their significant other a mate. I shook my head no. "Sorry baby I'm trying to explain. I'm a werewolf." Lucas said

Werewolf? It was echoing in my head.. What was he saying? I pulled my hands away from him. "I don't understand. Werewolf?" I asked

"Yes." He said

"Like a full moon werewolf?" I asked.

Lucas chuckled, "well not exactly."

I didn't know what to say or think. I loved this man and he was trying to push me away after saying he loved me? I needed space, I needed to think. "I think you should go", I told him.

His face dropped. I didn't want him to go, but I didn't know how to process this with him here. "Please baby, I do love you, I needed you to know before we went any further. I wanted it to be your choice." Lucas was pleading with me.

"I need time to think", I told him.

"Okay." He picked up his shoes, kissed me on the forehead, and then headed out the door.

Lucas

My chest was so heavy as she told me to leave. I grabbed my shoes, kissed her forehead and started to walk out the door. I was met with the smell of alcohol and trash. I saw the town Marshall standing on her front lawn. The realization hit me, he's a rogue. "What do you want? I growled at him.

"A piece of that pretty little thing". He laughed

"Get your rogue ass out of here before I tear you apart." I growled back.

"No can do Alpha, I've been watching that piece of ass for awhile". He said.

"Let me rip him apart. He's looking at our mate", Gavin was screaming, trying to come to the surface.

I heard a gun get c****d behind me, to turn around and see Val, holding a hand gun pointed at the deputy. "Get off my property Frank! Before I call you dad!" She yelled.

"Get inside Val!" Another voice came from behind the house, it was Max.

"No, not till he's off my property!!" Val said again.

"GET INSIDE!" Max and I screamed in unison, as 5 more rogues came from around the house. Val obliged this time going into the house.

"Damien rogues at Val's, 6 so far, unknown how many more." I linked him

"s**t!' We're on the way. Damien linked back

"Are you ready for this old man?" I linked Max.

"I was ready for this before you were born pup" Max chuckled back.

The rogues shifted and attacked, and the old man and I made quick work of them before the deputy ran off. Max started after him and I linked him "let him go, he's not worth it".
