Chapter 15

Val

I watched Lucas walk out the door, and then heard voices to see Frank, Jr outside yelling at Lucas. Lucas responded, but I couldn't hear what was being said, but it wasn't good. I went to the bedroom and grabbed one of my guns and stepped outside. "Get off my property Frank! Before I call you dad!" I yelled at him hoping it would deter him.

All of a sudden I heard another voice, a familiar voice, "Get inside Val!" It was Max yelling.

I stood my ground and said "No, not till he's off my property!!"

"GET INSIDE!" Max and Lucas screamed in unison.

This time I did not argue. I got inside the house and locked the door. I went into the bathroom, locked the door, and got into the tub. I sat curled up in the tub with the dogs. I pulled my knees to my chest, as tears were rolling down my cheeks for no reason.. I don't know what was going on outside, but all I could hear was growling and screaming, until it was quiet.

Lucas

"They're gone" I linked Damien.

"Clear. We'll send more patrols tonight", Damien linked back.

Shit! Val! I thought to myself. I shifted back and grabbed my keys. Thank goodness I brought extra clothes.

"Nice job for a pup" I heard Max say behind me.

"Need a pair of shorts, old man?" I asked, throwing him a pair.

Now I had to get into Val without being shot. "Max, do you have a key or know where one is? I've got to check on Val," I asked.

He walked over to the side of the house and pulled a loose brick out, grabbed a key and replaced it. Walking to the front door, he opened it slowly. "She's probably in the bedroom or the bathroom", he whispered. "She's a crack shot and I don't care for being on this side of it".

"Me either," I replied.

"Val! It's Max!" He yelled. There was no answer.

"Val, baby It's me! Where are you?" I hollered with no answer.

We slowly walked through the house, the bathroom door was shut and I could faintly hear whimpering. I slowly opened the door, and could barely see a body with 2 dogs curled up in the tub behind the curtain. I crouched down and slowly pulled back the shower curtain. She looked up at me with tears rolling down her cheeks. "Baby it's okay. They're gone", I told her softly.

"Did you find her?" Max came behind me yelling.

"Shhhh" She's in shock", I told him.

She slowly let me touch her and pick her up and hold her to my chest. I took her out to the living room and wrapped a blanket around her, as Max made her tea.

I wiped away the tears, and then I heard the most blissful sound "What happened? Why are you both half naked?" Val asked.

I was so happy to hear her talk. I smiled and said " they were rogues, and Max and I fought them off?"

"What? How? Max?" She said in confusion

"Just let me explain" Max said, sitting down in front of us.

Max

"Your mother never wanted you to know, but obviously, things have changed. When you came here, you and your mother were runways from another pack. Blood moon pack to be precise. The Alphas in that pack are known to be ruthless. They have a mate run every year, holding the mating age females captive and then releasing them for unmated males. They don't believe in the moon goddess selecting your mate, you get to take what you want. If you are higher ranked in the pack, you are allowed up to 3 "mates" to claim and do with as you please. Your mom was one of these " claimed she wolves" by the Alpha. She refused to let you grow up in that pack, and managed to sneak you and her away.

She came here looking for refuge and Alpha Samuel refused. I was his Gamma at the time, and I did not agree with his decision. I stepped down from my position and went to live on the outskirts of the pack. I've watched over you and your mother ever since," I told them.

"I didn't know till today that Frank jr was a wolf." I told them.

" What about my nightmares? "Val asked.

You had nightmares from the day that you got here. Your mother gave you her ring hoping it would help.. Because it was from your home pack. She was worried that they would find you, so she had you cursed by a witch." I explained.

"Witch? Cursed ? My mother had me cursed?" Val asked, confused.

" Yes, she had you cursed. The curse would keep you from shifting when you turned 13, and protect you from being noticed as a wolf. It would not be broken unless you found your mate and mated." I said

" My guess is by meeting your possible mate, and your possible mate being an Alpha, it has started to break the curse. " I told them both.

Lucas

I was angry now. "Why wouldn't my father give them refuge ? " I asked Max.

"I don't know, you'd have to ask him," Max said as he stood up. "I'll leave you two alone, you have a lot to discuss."

"Thanks Max" Val said faintly.
