Chapter 16

Val

I hugged Max goodbye, and sat back on the couch. There was so much to process I didn't know where to start.

Lucas sat next to me and held my hand. I stood up and started pacing, my mind was just running in overdrive.

"So you're a.." I said.

"Yes", Lucas replied.

"And I'm a..." I said

"Yes", Lucas replied.

"And I was CURSED, by my.." I questioned.

"Yes" he replied again.

"Look baby", Lucas said as he placed his arms around me. I resisted at first and then let myself relax.

"We'll figure it all out," Lucas said.

"Let's get you to bed, and I'll stay out here on the couch," he stated.

"Why?" I asked, feeling almost heartbroken.

"Because someone tried to get to you..."He said as I cut him off.

"I mean why the couch?" I asked.

"I didn't know if you would want me to stay in the same room?" He asked questioningly.

I didn't know how to process everything Max just said, but I did know that I loved the man in front of me. I could believe I was thinking that already, but I knew. Lucas just stood there waiting as if he knew I was processing, "Of course I want you in the same room as me, I love you." I told him.

A big smile crossed his face, "I love you too" he said, as I was now lifted off my feet and swung around.

He then just curled me up next to his chest, and carried me to bed. He let me curl up with my head on his chest and my eyes went heavy with sleep. A few hours later, I sat straight up in bed, sweating, after hearing the snap of my neck breaking. Then I heard Lucas ask "are you okay?"

"Yeah. Just tired of these dreams." I said. Curling back up to him.

"I need you to do me a favor this morning, " Lucas said.

"O-ok. What ? " I asked

"Close the Cafe today, and come to the packhouse with me." Lucas asked.

"Packhouse? Why?" I asked

"Yeah, the packhouse aka the "school", and because I need to do a few things there and I want to make sure you're safe." He said.

"Okay. I'll text everyone in the morning. I'll see if Max can check on the dogs or take them to his place." I told him before falling back to sleep.

Lucas

We woke up early, or stayed up since Val woke up 2 more times with nightmares. She had lots of questions, and I would honestly probably hand her off to Dy to give her the low down on the variety of things about pack life. We headed to the packhouse in the morning after placing a sign on the cafe door, saying they would be closed for a few days due to illness.

"So you're the Alpha?" Val asked as we drove. "So the top guy?"

"Yes I am." I told her.

"So then is Damien anything? " She asked.

"He's my Beta" I explained. "He's the second in charge."

I told her she wouldn't have to interact with anyone but myself, Damien or Dy today. I know she was nervous, we may not be mated, but I could still tell. As we pulled up outside, Damien and Dy met us. Dy enveloped Val in a hug, and Damien greeted us both. "Release her please" I said annoyedly to Dy.

"She's my friend too" Dy replied, sticking her tongue out at me.

We walked up to my office, and started explaining the whole saga to Damien and Dy. They had the same confused and bewildered faces we did, I'm sure, last night.

"So.." Dy started.

"Yes" Val and I said in unison.

"We need to talk to your dad and my dad " Damien, linked, me.

"Agreed". I linked back

"Lunch here in a bit?" I asked Damien and Dy

"Yes!" Dy answered excitedly.

"Come on, I'll show you around" I told Val, pulling her out of my office.

It had been such a whirlwind night, and then to come to a huge "packhouse ", they could have passed it off as a school almost, it's so big. We met with Damien and Dy, which just added to the whirlwind. Lucas asked them about lunch and he pulled me along, showing me a few things. "This is my room" as he opened the door.

He led me into a room that was almost the size of my house. There was a king bed with a separate sitting area and its own big bathroom. "What are you thinking ?" He asked, concerned.

"Just a lot to process," I said.

"I know, for me too", he added.

"So what would you like to do now ? " He asked.

I stood on my tip-toes and he bent down to me so I could give him a peck on the lips. In no time, he had me scooped up and was holding onto my thighs. He said " come by my office to follow up tomorrow."

Val nodded in agreement, and I added "she'll be there. "

Damien smiled, "So we'll meet you guys downstairs for lunch?" As he walked out and closed the door.

Lucas' eyes were filled with worry and back to their normal light blue. "You have nothing to apologize for. You were amazing!" I told him.

To which I got a cocky smile back. "I thought I hurt you!" He said, scooping me up into his arms along his chest.

"I'm okay, but I heard my mom speaking to me." I told him.

"What? After we just had.." He trailed off

"Yes, but I think it was because of the curse. She told me she was happy I found you and that I was better here. To trust you and that she loved me", I explained.

I looked up into his worried face and placed a hand on it. It felt like sparks shooting through my finger tips, "Oh sorry!" I thought I was shocking him and pulled my hand away.

"Come on, let's go get cleaned up and get to lunch." Lucas said, carrying me to the bathroom.

The shower was huge, and accommodated us both easily. Lucas lathered up washclothes and slowly washed my whole body, and then washed my hair. His fingers on my scalp made my whole body tingle.

I grabbed my jeans and then went to my bag to grab another set of undergarments and another top. I threw on a long-sleeved flowy top with my jeans, and then went into the bathroom to throw my hair back into a quick braid.

Lucas went into the bathroom to run his fingers through his hair. If possible, he looked more handsome in dark jeans, a light colored polo shirt that was straining to contain his biceps.

He bent down and kissed the back of my neck, which sent pleasure sparks all through my body. "Come on let's go", he whispered in my ear.

Lucas held out a hand for me to grab as he led me downstairs. We met Damien and Dy downstairs and headed out to one of the local Italian places for food.
