Blurb

Jade, a spoiled and rebellious teenager, was sent to her family's sprawling farm as punishment for her rude behavior after her brother's death. Her mother hoped the farm's rustic simplicity would teach Jade to appreciate the things she had. While Jade was supposed to be learning valuable life lessons, she was really just trying to prove how strong she was by being rude to everyone. Her mother's friend, Mrs. Garcia, was tasked with looking after Jade and reporting back to her mother. Mrs. Garcia's son, Gabrielle, was assigned to keep Jade company and make sure she didn't get lost. But Jade was just as rude to Gabrielle as she was to everyone else. Gabrielle was annoyed by Jade's attitude, and they couldn't seem to get along. Will Jade's time on the farm change her personality? Will she find a way to connect with Gabrielle? Only time will tell...

THE PUNISHMENT
Jade stood in the opulent living room of her family's mansion, her arms crossed defiantly. Her mother, a woman whose elegance was as sharp as her gaze, sat behind a mahogany desk, her expression unreadable. "Jade," her mother said, her voice calm but firm, "I'm disappointed in your behavior." Jade scoffed. "Disappointed? That's all you have to say?" "Your brother's funeral was not the time to be rude and disrespectful," her mother said, her voice laced with steel. "You were callous and insensitive. You showed no remorse." "He was just a brother," Jade retorted, her voice cold. "He wasn't my best friend." Her mother's eyes narrowed. "You have a lot to learn about life, Jade. You've been sheltered your entire life, and you've taken everything for granted. You need to understand the value of things, the importance of family, the weight of your actions." "I'm not going to some dusty farm," Jade said, her voice rising. "I have a life here. I have friends, I have a career, I have a future." Her mother leaned forward, her eyes piercing. "You will go to Willow Creek Farm. You will stay there until you learn to appreciate what you have. You will learn to be kind, to be compassionate, to be a good person." "And what if I don't?" Jade challenged, her voice shaking with anger. Her mother's smile was cold and calculating. "Then you can forget about studying abroad. You won't be getting that scholarship." Jade's defiance crumbled. She knew her mother meant what she said. She was being punished, and she was being sent away to a place she hated. "Fine," she said, her voice a mere whisper. "But I'm not going to change." Her mother's lips curved into a thin smile. "We'll see about that, Jade."
