Chapter Three - Uninvited lunch guest

1853 Words
Jessica    I woke, feeling better after getting some rest. I grabbed my phone, seeing it was midday. I never slept too long by the time I got myself settled down. I was hoping Callen being here was nothing more than a bad dream. I am not that lucky. I hesitantly pulled my ass out of bed and grabbing my over-sized hoodie, slipping it over my tee and shorts. I needed coffee and food! And I needed Callen not to be around. The place seemed quiet, so that was good, right? I went to raid my brothers’ fridge, but there wasn’t much there. Really, bro, you knew I was coming and couldn’t even get food in? I will kick his ass later for it.    I groaned, closing it over. He better have coffee in the house, who am I kidding, of course, he will have, my brother has a caffeine addiction.    “He doesn’t get the shopping until tonight,” I hear from behind me.    I jumped since I thought I was alone, clearly not! I don’t know where Callen was hiding, but I wish he stayed there.    “What have I to eat until then?” I groaned.    “I see you still get cranky if you haven’t eaten,” He laughed.    “Yes,” I pouted.    I don’t know how he knows so much about me; we never did much talking back then. We were either arguing or having s*x.    “Come on, let me treat you to lunch,” He smiled.    I looked at him suspiciously. I have known him most of my life, and not once has he offered me anything, well except pleasure, but other than that, never.    “And in return, you want what?” I asked, folding my arms over my chest.    “What makes you think I want anything in return?” He laughed.    “Because you have never once offered to buy me lunch?” I said, “And you always want something,” I added.    Callen stepped in closer to me, only leaving a few inches between us. He reached up, pushing the hair away from my face. I was trying my best not to get distracted by his eyes, by the scent of his aftershave. I was not too fond of the way my body instantly reacted when he was close. I thought that after all this time that would have stopped, but nope!    My body is clearly thinking with her v****a rather than her brain. And that is not how it should be, not around him of all people. I hated that I was so horny sometimes. Yes, I am a woman that loves s*x as much as the next, as much as any man, but I am not letting myself go there again. I will ignore the fact that no other man can get things stirred up in me the way Callen can.    I thought I was over this. I am not a damn teenager anymore; my hormones should be in better check, especially around him! I wouldn’t say I like Callen, not one single bit, but between my legs seem to disagree with that.    “Come on now, Jess, you should know by now, I don’t need to offer you anything because if I really wanted too, I could easily get you back into bed,” He said, “And your words may deny that, but your body is telling me different, sweetness,” He added.    With every word he spoke, he had that stupid smug look on his face. The one that makes me want to punch him! I placed my hand on his chest, pushing him away from me.    “Go and f**k yourself, Callen,” I snarled at him, “I will never be back in your bed. As for the offer for lunch, shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. I will get my own damn lunch,” I added, barging by him.    What a complete t**t he is! I grabbed my bag and headed straight out of the apartment. I would find somewhere to eat. I have been here a few times, but Leo was always with me, so I never got lost. Now, there may be a good chance I will get lost because I have no sense of direction of this place. I would rather get lost than have lunch with that douche!    I decided it was best to stay local. Where my brother stayed, there were a lot of places close by, including food places. I looked around, spotting a café and headed in its direction. It was quiet, the way I like it. I looked around trying to decide where to sit, and I headed up to the back of the café, out of the way of the other few people that were here. I grabbed a menu, looking at for a few minutes before someone came over.    “Hey, are you ready to order?” The pretty waitress smiled.    “Yes, thank you,” I said, smiling back at her, “Can I have a baked potato with tuna and a side salad, along with a flat white, please,” I added.    “Sure thing, you aren’t from around here, are you?” She asked.    “No, just moved here from Scotland for a job,” I smiled.    “Yes, I thought you were Scottish,” She giggled, “You order won’t be long,” She added before heading off.  Now, this was better. No Callen, no anyone, just me, food, coffee and a good book, it is what I needed right now. I was going to make the most of it for the moment.                                              *** I was getting lost in my book, sipping of my third coffee since I arrived. I get it from my brother, my coffee addiction. He was the one that gave me my first cup when I was maybe ten/eleven, been addicted to it ever since. To say my parents wanted to kill him for doing it, but they got over it. I personally don’t think that is too much of a bad age to start drinking coffee, or maybe that is just me.     “At least you never got lost. I am sure Leo wouldn’t be too happy with me if I lost his little sister on her first day here,” I hear a voice say, followed by a laugh.    Why? Why did he have to show him?    “Callen, go to hell,” I said, refusing to look up at him.    Maybe if I acted like he wasn’t there, he would disappear. That works, right? No, of course, it doesn’t, not in real life, not in my life. He decided that he was going to sit, without me inviting him. I looked over my book, c*****g my brow at him.    “Can I help you?” I asked, annoyed, “I do not remember inviting you to sit with me,” I added.    “You never said I couldn’t either,” He said, rather smugly.    “Whatever,” I said, lifting my book back up.    He laughed loudly, taking the book right out of my hands, and made sure I was looking at him.    “There is no need to be so rude now, gorgeous,” He said.    “Do not call me that,” I said.    “Nope! I will call you as I please,” He smirked, “And trust me, you should take gorgeous because I could think of dirtier names to call you,” He added.    I ignored his s****l comment, breaking eye contact with him and taking a drink of my coffee. I was not to react or respond to his words. I am not playing this game, well not today anyway.    “Callen, here as always,” I hear a female voice say, followed by a giggle.    I looked up and saw the waitress standing that served me giggling. I am guessing those two know each other.    “Always, do you really think I would miss the opportunity to see your pretty face and get a great coffee,” He said winking at her.    “Oh stop,” She giggled, pushing his shoulder.    Is she falling for that crap? Callen is not the sweet kind unless he wants something.    “You know it’s the truth,” He said, “Can I get my usual please, darling,” He added, flashing his best smile at her.    I had to stop myself from laughing at how fake he was right now. I wanted to stand up, go to her and shake some sense into her about him, but what would be the point? She was already blushing, giggling and get all giddy around him. Poor girl, I am glad he never had that effect on me. Yes, he had an impact on me, but that was utterly different and s****l, nothing like the way she is acting around him. I would slap myself if I got that way around him, around any man.    “Sure thing, coming right up,” She said sweetly, “Do you want anything else?” She added, turning her attention to me.    “Another coffee please,” I laughed.    She nodded and headed off. I groaned, realising I was left alone with Callen again.    “Only if that girl knew what you were really like,” I said, rolling my eyes.    “She does,” He smirked, “Already tapped that, baby girl,” He added.    Tapped that? Did he seriously just use those words?    “You are a hoe!” I spoke.    “I know, and I am not ashamed of it,” He said, confidently.    I soon changed my mind about sitting for another coffee. I gathered my things up, going to the counter and paying my bill, asking for the coffee to go. I never even said goodbye to Callen. I headed straight back for home.    “Jess, wait up,” I hear him call from behind me.    “No, go away,” I said, firmly.    He soon appeared at my side, laughing.    “Come on, sexy, don’t be like that,” He said, nudging my hip with his, “We live together, we need to find a way to get along,” He added.    “That will probably never happen,” I said, “We have known each other for years, and never got along, what makes you think things will change now?” I added.    “Because we aren’t kids anymore, Jess,” He said.    “I guess, but let’s not hold our breaths, OK? We can see how it goes,” I said shrugging.    It would never work; we clash too much. But if it makes him quiet for a while, I will say I am willing to try.    “Yes, we can try, even for Leo’s sake,” He said, “It was bad enough when we weren’t staying together, I don’t think he will be too happy it is the same when we are all under the same roof,” He added.    I nodded, taking a sip of my coffee. There was something in my gut telling me that Callen was up to something, and that is why he was saying all of this. I will keep an eye on him, and play along for now.
